  1. Sheesh! Here we go again.
  2. Well I guess that's it then. D_V_Devnull knows who the editor is, and as he was the person who'd kept this thread going and seemed to be the most interested, now he's got his curiosity satisfied the rest of us can go whistle up wind. And of course now he knows, he'll never tell. He'll be worse than Kiara!
  3. Jagex is already privatised -- they're a private company owned by the Gower brothers and a friend. They don't have to answer to anyone except the taxman. If they went public and had to answer to stockholders, they still wouldn't necessarily listen to the players -- unless we all went out and bought stock.
  4. You could never get into a full world with Swift. What it did do was keep retrying for you so that as soon as the world was no longer full, you could get in. When they changed Rule 7 a couple of months ago, Swift was updated so that it didn't automatically re-try for you. It did however offer you an option of watching the world for you and letting you know when it was open. While I can see there's a bandwidth issue with the dynamic sigs-- if only because there are so many of them -- there are ways to provide that data through a feed which would not be so expensive for Jagex.
  5. There are two people who know for sure: Kiara_Kat and The Editor. Neither of them is going to tell us. Everyone else is just guessing. Some guesses are more educated than others, but they're all just guesses.
  6. Of course so...but both the Editor and Ard had the 5.6 standard deviation at the exact same time :) Unless the Editor put in Ard's standard deviation on purpose to throw us off, which I could see happening. Or perhaps the Editor picked a random number that sounded about right while (s)he was writing the piece -- isn't that what journalists do? Pull statistics out of thin air?
  7. Jagex is unlikely to go under in the next few years. They're a privately-owned company with a hugely successful product. If they are as smart as they seem to be, they've probably got several other products in development. Short of a complete collapse of the internet, the global economy, or some really stupid move on their part -- most of which would involve some sort of expensive lawsuit -- there's no reason why Jagex should "go under". Even if some magic new technology came out tomorrow, it would still take a good while to be implemented and they could use that time to re-engineer Runescape to take advantage of that technology or develop something new. And to get back on topic: I'm 56, a parent, a step-grandparent, and have been a gamer since the days of Collosal Caves on the PDP-11s. I can't see myself giving up gaming, and until I max out all my skills, I can't see myself leaving Runescape.
  8. I don't think you can really go much on specific skill levels. There are 1,000,000 people on the high scores for each skill. With levels between 30 and 99, that means, assuming an even spread that there are around 14.5k people at any given level -- less in the newer and unpopular skills. In the combat skills, where you have to be around lvl 60 to be in the top 1,000,000 then there's about 20 - 25K people per level. I'm not sure that it adds up as strongly as you seem to think it does.
  9. It's a measurement of how much numbers in a set deviate from the mean. Here's Wikipedia's article on SD and here's a less technical explanation. Those of us who care about such things let MS Excel or Open Office calculate them for us. (FWIW, mine's 5.4 today 8-) )
  10. I bet a lot of skillers had the same SD -- Mine's been fluctuating between 4.8 and 6.2 for months now.
  11. No. The people who are to blame are the people who are being rude. I do my best to remain polite -- even when being besieged by idiots!. Most of the time I have private chat and trade set to friends, because I can't deal with the flood of messages that I'm inundated with if I don't. What gets me is when I try to be helpful, and then get subjected to a stream of invective because I'm not going to hold someone's hand or spoonfeed them. Usually it's along these lines: Random Player: "where's [place]" Me: *gives directions* RP: will u taek me their? Me: No I'm busy right now. RP: [stream of misspelled invective] I'm not here to play their game, I'm here to play mine!
  12. Standard Deviation's a moving target. Every time you level up, it changes.
  13. Nice work Ard! We seem to have similar attitudes towards keeping skills balanced, but slightly different ways of getting (and keeping them there). *crosses Ard off editor suspects list*
  14. Did you get screenies of the imposters?
  15. Me? ME??!1??!1!! Do I look like a bleedin' edditer? Not me. I's just a low-level crewbie. But I will admit to having been the editor ... For 1 day, when Kiara published a guest editorial I wrote. *removes self from list of suspects*
  16. Good call Shey, that would account for a lot of the inconsistencies...
  17. What about: Mystery Ed MisteriusEd Tip It Ed Mr Ed Mister Ed Or any one of a dozen similar possibilities including: Not The Ed
  18. But it's fun to see one's helpless victims vain strugglings... oh. waitaminnit. Nope. No resistance here. I are a good borg-unit.
  19. No more than this here kebab I got given by some short drunk dude with attitude! I note you're not attempting to refute the other accusation!
  20. The one famous player I've always wanted to meet, and I'll be offline all afternoon. Someone get some screenies for me pl0x!
  21. He/she does exist! I was wondering if perhaps Tip.it hadn't hired a troop of trained monkeys with typewriters and an awful lot of time. So, The_Editor, come clean, tell us more!
  22. Hehe... Hammock + laptop + wireless internet connection = Runescape and being outside 8-) I don't take the laptop to the beach though -- the sand is bad for it
  23. Free To Play. FTP = File Transfer Protocol F2P = Free to Play
  24. Thankyouverymuch! We're a great comedic duo. One of these days we'll get a nice fat gig at a casino in Vegas and make millions doing standup routines.
