How to train skills - Without the Mills (V.1.4) - Lil Update
Very nice work! Where was this guide when I was struggling in the 30s and 40s with no money? :lol:

Video of the attack glitch (not mine)
What you need to do is constantly stare at the mirror and remind yourself that THIS IS A GAME. Comparing anything to real-life occurances is just downright stupidity. On the contrary. How you behave in an online game very much reflects how you behave in real life. If you are a normal, honest sort of person, you play by the rules. Exploiting bugs, cheating, scamming, hacking, macroing are all against the rules. Doing any of these isn't "game play" it's breaking the rules. PKing in the Wildy is one thing -- people can fight back, it's a fair(ish) fight. Attacking people who are unable to defend themselves is wrong Deliberately abusing a bug for profit is wrong. And anyone who thinks that charging through a crowd of defenceless people and killing them at random is fun or makes them "god like", even in a game, needs to have their head examined. Durial was acting like a sociopath, with no concern or respect for the people he was hurting and stealing from. All the rest of you who think it's so cool need to get your heads out of the computer, grow up and start living a real life. This was not funny, not cool, it was a sick exploitation of a bug in the game. It was dishonest and dishonourable.

The New Update! - PLAYER-OWNED HOUSES!
A house 4 rooms long and 4 rooms wide is only 16 rooms. There is a maximum of 20 rooms, exactly how you configure them over 3 floors is quite variable. But 20 rooms is all you can have.

~~~~ POHs and Dungeons: Planning in advance ~~~~
Nice work. My house currently looks like it was designed by someone with serious mental issues... The rooms are all over the place. I decided to leave it as it is for a bit and do some power levelling (carved oak dining tables FTW) When I make level 60 I'll tear the place down and start over. So far I'm lvl 54 and have spent just under 1M GP.
Me4391 is just sick of it...*long read like always*
Y'know, we've just seen the biggest upgrade in the game in almost a year. It's a huge expansion to the game, it's taken Jagex years to work on. If this is the only thing wrong with it, and apart from complaints about prices and there still being NO BATHROOMS it's the only complaint I've seen, then they've done an exceptionally good job. So why not stop whining and go build something :)
Construction defeats most abyss pkers???
All they've been getting from me is ess and a partly used ring of dueling. I've been running up there naked and unarmed, with just a ring of duelling and ess. It just means I end up in Falador with no runes instead of atCastle Wars with runes. No big deal. It's much more likely to make it not worth the bother because so many people are doing construction instead of runecrafting, that there are very few victims.
Another Maxed skill player?
Lilyluffie88 quit April 18 2006. As for Uloveme, even if someone else gave her materials, tha's not going to help all that much. To get 99 WC you have to deforest most of RS several times. To get 99 fishing you have to catch a few bazillion sharks (and all the lesser fish to get your level up). To get 99 Slayer you have to kill a small army of assorted monsters. There's no way (that I know of) to macro any of the combat skills.
"You aren't holding any bones!"
Works the same as bones to bananas. Ordinary bones only.
Lower Level Member Population
I think I was maybe a level 20-something when I got members. I started playing Memorial Day weekend 2004. I got members on June 18, 2004 because I knew I was hooked. So what, 3 weeks? Not long at all. Couldn't go anywhere without a map, thought I was da bomb when I could wear steel plate 8-) What can I say, I'm easy to please. Now I'm getting up there, coming up on 2 years. 208 quest points. I still don't know everything and still haven't been everywhere. Now I'm da bomb in my black dhide and whip. :roll:
I'll have to check. I stole it. My latin is horribly rusty, but I can check.
Delusions of Grandeur
Isn't the far north of the wildy lvl 55? doesn't change the fact that he couldn't hit you but might make the difference if you're ever challenged by a lvl 46 in the future :wink: unless of course you're scared :lol: Me? Scared? Of course I am. I'm a devout coward. I hate waking up in Fallador naked. You might be right. I'm not up there often enough to worry about the levels -- it's those clusters of white dots I worry about. Though there was this time about 1/2 dozen of us were wandering around. We got to the Axe Hut and there's a guy in there having fun with the axes. The conversation went as follows: Us: Hi Him: Hi Us: Can we come in and kill you? Him: No Us: Please? Him: NO!!!! Us: Not even a little bit? Us: Awwwww.... Him: Not even a little bit! Us: But we want to kill someone! Us: Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Him: No! You cannot come in here and kill me! Us: Why not? Him: Because I said not! Us: OK then. Bye! And we wandered off and found the Chaos Elemental instead. And that is another story.
I'll try that when I'm feeling masochistic. Or depressed about my levels. Or something.
Tears of Guthix
It's 60 x(tears). The length of time you have to collect them increases with your QP. I got 132 tears last week (7920 RC experience -Abyss PKers eat your hearts out :lol: ) which is to date my personal best. I have 208 QP right now with just Mournings End II, Desert Treasure, the end of Recipe for Disaster and the last 6 bones for Rag and Bone Man part 2 to complete. I'm kinda stalled out on quests right now -- I'm after 1500 total levels by the end of the month. Only got 6 more to go, but they need a lot of XP to level.
Delusions of Grandeur
Gee, thanks. I think. Makes me sorry for anyone who's a Pmod or in the top 10 of the high scores table. At least I get some peace, I bet most of them don't.
Delusions of Grandeur
Some time ago, I became The Answer Man. What they don't tell you when you get that coveted Legends Cape is that on the back it says (in letters visible only to those with a combat level lower than yours) "ASK ME FOR HELP" So most of the time I answer questions. Usually the questions are about quests: Random Player: Have u done [insert name] quest? Me: Yes. RP: Can u hlep pl0x? Me: Maybe. I did it a while ago, I might not remember the details. RP: How u [garbled description of obscure part of quest]? Me: I don't remember that bit. RP: U sauk. U R a n00b. I bet u stole that cape. Sometime it goes better than that: Me: Oh. You need [item]. You get it [here] RP: I tried that, it didn't work. Me: Try [this] RP: Tx! Since I got that magic 3-digit combat level, I've seen a couple of new ones. I still get loads of cries for help. but now there's the inevitable: RP: Can u give me money? Me: No. RP: Y? Me: I'm broke. RP: U can't be broke, ur lvl 101!!!1!!1!! RP: Noob!!!! u sauk!!! (Trust me a lvl 101 can be very, very broke, whips and crystal bows are expensive! But we tend not to stay broke very long 8-) ) This however is the classic, and is the incident that gives this post its title. A friend and I are standing outside the Black Knights place in the wildy, just north of the Green Dragons. We've been on a Death March with some friends so we're dressed to die -- basically nekkid except for untradeable and replaceable items like Boots of Lightness and Frog Prince outfits and with cheap weapons. He's about my level. A level 42 skulled player approaches us and the following conversation took place: LVL 42: I cud own u Me: I don't think so. LVL 42: Yea I cud! Me: Go ahead -- hit me! LVL 42:Waaa! Ur lvl 2 hi. Come n. Me: No. LVL 42: Coward. Me: Not coward. Practical. LVL 42: ?? Me: The far north of the Wildy is lvl 53. 101 - 42 is 59. Even if we went as far north as possible, you still couldn't hit me. LVL 42: U just sayin that. u r coward. My friend: ROFL!! He's right, you couldn't hit either of us. But at least you'd be safe from us. LVL 42: u r cowrd 2 (runs off northward) Gotta love these people...... I mean srsly, can't he do basic addition and subtraction? I would have so loved to have smacked him around a little... *shakes head at the idiocy of some players*
Pest Control Event! For Gondor! Updated!
I'd be happy to give it a whirl if it's at a time I can make. I'm getting quite good at despatching portals. :twisted:
Jagex made a funny
"I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" is the title of an old Music Hall song. It was very popular in the UK with comedians up through the '50s and early '60s. Pre-dates Monty Python by quite a while.
OMG! Stop the GP inflation!
The US dollar is no longer backed by gold. It is a fiat currency. Additionally the Federal Reserve Bank (a private company which prints money and sells it to the US government) no longer has to report how much money it's printed -- so we no longer really know how much is in circulation. Long term, every fiat currency has inflated, hyperinflated and collapsed. The dollar appears to be headed that way. PM me if you're interested in economics and I'll send you some links to some interesting sites.
He also drops oyster pearls. I've had drops of 4 skins before, but never more than 1 claw.
dam adults think that computer games make us anti-social?
I'm a parent. My son plays WoW. I play RS. He used to play RS, but switched first to Maple Story, then WoW because (a) that was what his RL friends were playing and also because I was always about 20 levels higher than him in RS :twisted: I've been a gamer for over 30 years, D&D, Colossal Caves, Zork, you name it, I've played it. And I still manage to hold down a decent job (I'm a database programmer in the health care industry) and have a social life outside RS. My son has pretty decent social skills, RL friends and a GF, as well as online friends. We still mess around and call each other "noob" and talk about "pwning" each other. If he turns his music up too loud I tell him to STFU and so on. But that doesn't mean we can't speak properly, discuss important issues, and write legible, grammatically correct sentences.
Ok some dies in front of you and...
Back when I was still pretty new to the game, I was thieving cakes in Ardoygne market. On my way back from the bank to the cake stall, I saw a fire rune on the ground. I stopped to pick it up. It wasn't just a fire rune, it was over 20K of assorted runes including 1K chaos, 50 law, 100 deaths, 100 nats, wizard robes and hat, a staff of air and about 20K in gold. And some bones. Seems some guy had tele'd to Ardy, and died on arrival. I didn't see who he was, but it was the best present a level 30+ could have gotten. Had I seen him die I'd have msg'd him and given him his stuff back. But I didn't so I couldn't. So I kept it all. Sold some of the stuff, used some more. Luck of the game I guess. If I do see someone die, I'll grab their stuff and give it back to them, might keep something for my trouble though. :twisted:
Guide: NEW Gloves, Culinary weaponry and more!!!
Excellent guide. Nicely laid out, clear and easy to follow. One tiny nit-pick it should be "nourishment", not "nurishment"
A Possible Solution?
The rares market exists because people want the rare items. People want rare items because they demonstrate their status -- either that they were around when something was given out, or that they could afford to buy it. People will always pay more for something that is cool-looking, unusual, hard to get or in any way different from what other people have. If Jagex took all the current crop of "rares" out of the game, then people would find new things to obsess about. For example trimmed armor or god armor which is only available from a treasure trail is relatively uncommon. People with money to burn will pay higher prices for a trimmed rune platebody than for an ordinary one. Even if the stats were identical, people would go for the trimmed one because it looks a bit different. If the "rares" go away, the "uncommons" will rise in price and desirability. You might even see the market for spinach rolls take off -- not because they're any good for anything, but because they're something you can only get from monster drops or the MOM. Do you want RS to become a cookie-cutter game where everyone looks alike because there are only common items? Or do you want a game where there's enough variation, both in items and their availability, that you can customise your character's appearance and show off your l33t gaming 5kilz? I don't own any rares. I don't much care about them. I realise that probably makes me a minority. The rares market is only a problem if you're desperate to get a rare item and can't afford it. In that case, you've got bigger problems than lack of money.
Guys With Girl Characters...
Transexuality, Transgender, Intersex and Hermaphroditism are all recognised medical conditions. They're not a lot of fun to have and fixing them is a lot harder than going down to the Makeover Mage and forking out 3K GP. Please don't make jokes about things you know nothing about. There are almost certainly some transexuals who play RS -- but that's not at all relevant to how they play the game. Lots of people playing RS have characters whose gender isn't the same as their own without being transgendered. It's a game. Why not create a character who's completely different from yourself just for fun? Right now my character's got black skin and white hair. IRL, I've got white skin and the little bit of hair I have was red before it started going gray. Next week my character might be a girl with blue hair. Or maybe not. After I did the Recruitment Drive Quest I hung around as a girl for quite a while before changing back. It was interesting. If I had the bank space I'd get a frog princess outfit, then change back into a guy just to wear it and watch people's heads go 'splody. It's a game. The character is just a bunch of pixels you move around, it's not you.
Older persons who play Runescape
I'll be 56 in May. My birthday and my 2-year anniversary of starting RS fall on the same weekend. I'm a gamer from way back. When I was a kid we didn't have TV so we played a lot of board games, card games and chess. I earned my "DarkEros" handle in a D&D-type game about 30 years ago. I've been playing computer games since 1978 -- the original adventure game, the Colossal Caves game for the PDP 11 and other mini-computers. I work with computers, doing database programming, and RS is my big escape in the evenings. I play, IM my friends and knit. I've never been much of a TV person so this is what I do instead of vegging out in front of the box. My son's 16. He played for a while, but now plays WoW because that's what his friends play (and because I'm much higher level in RS than he ever was).
