Range is definately not cowardly. It's a lot easier to attack a ranger than a mage that can freeze you and farcast. as for training, meleers can use the halberd, mages can use safe spots as well, and though ranged training is usually done from a safe spot, it doesn't have to be. Good luck on your goal =D
