I believe in the Greek gods/goddesses. If I had to choose one, though, I'd pick Hecate, Goddess of the night. That's cause I work best at night.

Holocaust Denial, the BNP and freedom of speech

If a vote is held and 82% of voters find the ideology dangerous while 18% find the ideology acceptable, then tough luck for the 18%. Rule by the majority is the very essence of democracy. You don't like your country's president? Well, tough luck, he/she was voted in by the majority. You don't like decisions made by your town's council? Well, tough luck, they were voted in by the majority. Welcome to democracy. I believe the minority should (from a human-rights perspective) be considered. With the exception of dangerous minorities. Maybe, to protect minority rights, I should bump my number to 99.9%. Then there would be more free speech. Then there would be a lot more crap going around because 0.2% could consider acceptable what 99.8% find dangerous. If 20% find BNP's ideology perfectly acceptable, then BNP has the right to free speech, even though 80% find the ideology dangerous. Maybe, to protect the majority from a minority of dangerous ideology, I should bump my number down to 66% or 51%. But, then, there is greater potential for tyranny of the majority. If the BNP does gain popularity, then it represents a segment of the people. If they are allowed free speech, then they're allowed free speech. As long as the majority (80% in my example) doesn't condemn them, they're fine. If the moderates find it hard to challenge BNP's views, then tough luck for the moderates. There's a balance between giving people a right to a safe, secure environment and giving them the right to free speech. Wherever the government draws the line, there are always those who will believe in more free speech, or more censorship. I see that the system is somewhat flawed. You can make some people happy all of the time or all people happy some of the time, but you can't make everyone happy all of the time. It's a compromise between two ideals. -
I've cheated a few times... all of them on homework that was just time-consuming. Or, you know, use another person's template for my lab data. But, in that case, I already know the material. Cheating on a test, on the other hand... You don't actually learn. If you cheat on a test, I won't report you, because I know that the stuff you didn't learn would come back to haunt you. You won't get away with it in the long run (unless it's the final year in a course you'll never use again)

I believe it should be controlled by the majority's (at least 80%) ideology of what is "dangerous" (not what's right or wrong). In a democracy, the courts, which represent the population, should do the controlling. So you would deny that 20% who oppose whatever you vote on the right to peacefully make their opinions and thoughts felt? In the UK alone that could be over 10 million people. And you call that democracy? Sounds more like fascism. Not necessarily. Only if the 20% advocate something I consider "dangerous." If 0.1% of the population advocate kindness to fleas and express their views in a peaceful way, I'm fine with that. It wouldn't be dangerous. Although I would vote against those "be kind to fleas" people, I wouldn't suppress their views. A democracy is "rule by the people." The majority rules. One of the big problems with democracy is that the majority couldn't care less about some minorities. That's what free speech rights are for - to protect minorities. Of course, the hard part is defining which minorities deserve free speech rights.... This sentence is a bit unclear to me. I'll just restate some of my beliefs. A group's right to free speech should only be suppressed when the majority (80%) considers the group's ideology or method of communication dangerous. If we define democracy as "rule by the people" where the majority of the population makes the decision for everyone, then there is bound to be tyranny by majority. The problem of the majority silencing the minority should be a natural (if unfortunate) occurrence in any democracy. -
Think this through a little more carefully. No cash in the wildy means no more buying pizza dough from Fat Tony (or whatever the NPC who sells pizza dough is called). Would rune ess be considered unnecessary? What about the abyss rcers then? I think the stash room is a pretty good idea, though. Just flesh it out. How deep in the wildy would it be? Can you telly out in case of trouble? Should there be more than one stash room? I can already imagine someone camping outside a stash room, waiting for a pker to pick up the items. This is a good idea. Just make it more detailed and clean up your spelling mistakes

See, this is actually where it becomes quite dangerous. How on Earth can you define something as "extremist" or "fanatic"? The courts have a hard enough task deciding whether something incites racial hatred or not. I've said it before and I'll say it again, many political analysists would describe my political position as extremist, only my extremism is guided towards liberalism and I would never be purposefully racist or xenophobic; quite the opposite. There are many Muslim extremists who also believe in non-violence. During his time, I'm sure many would have regarded Ghandi as an extremist, or perhaps Martin Luther King Jr.. Extremism itself is perfectly acceptable and converesly is how new political ideologies spawn. However, there is a line at which extremism turns into racist discrimination (for the BNP) and terrorism (for 'religious' groups such as the Real IRA or Al'Queda). It is only at these points extremism becomes dangerous, especially when the ideology is based on hysteria and lies like the BNP's is. You got me on the "extremism is perfectly acceptable" one. I'll have to agree with you. I'll also agree with the "worry about it when it becomes dangerous." It seems like the only problem is defining "dangerous". I'd like to describe dangerous as "being a probable negative influence to the majority of a society" As you can see, I've included a lot of weasel words in my definition. Fanaticism and extremism are not necessarily dangerous, since their influence may not be negative. But something like denying the holocaust would be dangerous. It's hard to draw the line. I believe it should be controlled by the majority's (at least 80%) ideology of what is "dangerous" (not what's right or wrong). In a democracy, the courts, which represent the population, should do the controlling. -

Imagine this: [sarcasm] Freedom of speech and expression, yay!!!! Let's put porn on cartoon network. Let's put porn pictures on the sidewalks. Let's put porn ads in Reader's Digest. Let's cover the world with porn!!! [/sarcasm] You can see where this is going. Hypothetically, if I have a right to free speech, don't I have a right to throw around pictures of porn in public places like confetti? That's why there's a thing called public decency. Some things are not acceptable. Porn in a public area is indecent, offensive, and unacceptable. Shouldn't extremist, fanatic, indecent, offensive, and generally unacceptable views also be controlled? Freedom of Speech should be subject to a few laws that filter out the extremist, fanatical, and almost universally offensive views. -
There's a subtle difference between revenge and retribution. Revenge implies that the victim of a crime is trying to derive some pleasure/satisfaction/sense of closure from the punishment of the bad guy. Retribution implies that the perpetrator of a crime won't be allowed to get away with it. If you only had to pay a $5 fine for assault and battery, I bet a lot of people would start rampaging and paying a small fine. "Revenge" (retribution is a more accurate word) is necessary in a just society to deter crime. That sums it up, really.

What if a mage pker comes up and teleblocks you, entangles you, then dds specs you? That dhide is there to stop (or delay) mages from teleblocking you or entangling you. Yes, the ectophial (or teletab in my case) is very useful. Except when you get teleblocked. Go rcing with dhide and watch as the entangles and teleblocks just bounce off.

I'd go for the abyss. I do around 30 runs an hour, so that's about 2 mins per run. That's with a "maximum protection" outfit, not a light outfit. You should get 180k profit an hour (pessimistic) with abyss rcing, compared to 130k profit an hour (optimistic) with the general store or fairy ring. If your equipment for the abyss is worth 75k, you should go to the abyss if you get killed less than once every 90 minutes. For the abyss, just bring some dhide armor and a teletab and you should be fine. Oh, and if you do get pked, don't worry too much about it. It happens.

There is another possibility. I'm afraid I don't have any hard numbers, but... Go to the crafting guild. Bring either 14 water containers (like jugs or buckets or bowls) or a supply of clay bracelets. Mine clay, craft plantpots, fire plantpots, drop, start again. One cycle is 14 plantpots, which is 37.5 xp ea, which is 525 exp per cycle. If you do 1 cycle a minute (I'm just guesstimating the cycle time) that's 31k crafting exp per hour. Without losing money. You break even if you don't use bracelets of clay. IMO clay bracelets aren't worth it, unless you have a load of sapphires just sitting in your bank. I dunno if this is good advice for you though... Might not be the best sp/hour or gp/hour

If you have the necessary skill level, you can craft airs. At lvl 33 or so, you break even if you run the airs yourself. At lvl 44-65 you can make a decent profit (for f2p) crafting airs. At lvl 66 and above (Maybe lv 77, I'm not sure) you can craft airs in world 16 and get great rc exp and a bit of profit.

I've got two: Examine doomsayer (outside lumby castle): "Cheerful, happy, and optimistic, I'll bet" Examine squirrel (a bit southwest of white wolf mountain): "Shave the tail, and you've got a rat" A bit off topic, but the conversation you can have with the NPCs near the squirrels is a bit funny

Sarcasm is like a double-edged sword. Or maybe a faulty hand grenade, because it blows up in your face more often than not. I rarely use sarcasm, simply because the other person doesn't get it. Example: Some Other Guy: makes a crazy boast Me: Yeah, and my main is zezima Some Other Guy: Really? Wow! Me: That was sarcastic. Some Other Guy: That was just mean... I can't think of other examples off the top of my head, but it's not fun (for me, at least) to use sarcasm when the other guy doesn't get it.

Let's try looking at this practically. :-k I assume our bank information is stored in only one [physical] place. 1 byte stores 256 combinations, or 2^8 There are about 4000 different items that exist in Runescape. It's difficult to store things in half-bytes, so round it up. 2 bytes of memory (space for 64000). There are 2^32 - 1 possible amounts for an item (1 gp, 2 gp, etc.). 4 bytes of memory. It takes 8 bytes of memory for 1 bank slot for 1 person. There are (i guess) 2million f2p players. So that would be around 16 Mb for 1 extra f2p banking space. If you give f2p 12 extra banking spaces, that would mean 192 extra Megabytes of storage, which isn't a lot. Please tell me if there's anything wrong with my assumptions or calculations. 192 Megabytes of memory is the equivalent of a decent USB, or flash drive. JaGex could easily (from a practical point of view) get this space. Extra bandwidth should be negligible. JaGex CAN easily give us more bank space. It's not that expensive for them, maybe a few hundred dollars. Whether f2p needs more bankspace, I don't think so. I have had to throw out my full zombie, but I can live without it. If you throw out nonessential items you will have enough space. Sure, I want more space but I don't need it.

This might be a little off-topic but... Jagex says in its Terms and Conditions that it has the right to change your username for any reason. As far as I know, they have never used this right. It seems that they just ban people with offensive names, instead of letting them choose another username. It wouldn't be hard to put a censor on the new usernames (except that people would spell their way around it.) However, Jagex probably doesn't have the manpower to find every offensive name, and might find it hard to persuade those players to change their names. A report abuse form is a nice idea, except that Jagex staff are already overloaded with various reports. They just don't have the manpower to deal with all Runescape's problems. It's a nice idea, but I think it's more in the lines of "wishful thinking" rather than being a serious suggestion. And personally, I've seen worse words in a username.

Off-Topic: Hurl wrote: Nuckinfuts... I know that guy in real life (I'm serious). He's a classmate of mine, and Nuckinfuts got banned. Guess what for. On-Topic: I once saw a lvl 3 girl in Lumby named "f*** my p***"

I like to go pking at the lvl 1 varrock wildy keep in mind that I 3-item I carry these items: 1. Rubber Chicken - wield it. Otherwise, do the chicken dance. 2. Yoyo 3. Spinning plates, purchaseable from Diango Make sure you're actually in the wild before playing around with your toys. When I die, I PM the killer saying "please give my bones a decent burial."

I am an impure. Whenever I go into the wild, I get owned. I hate the wild. I bet there are at least 500,000 people who feel that way. And these people won't log on that day. Imagine that. World 1....... 100 players LOL
