Emo Music to be Outlawed
Despite all the jokes that could/have been made, this is stupid. Targeting depression and other mental illnesses is more likely to have an impact on suicide rates. Targeting something like emo is pissing around the edges of the problem.

Album That Got You Into Your Favorite Band
Band: Death Album: Leprosy Still Favourite?: Possibly, yes. Although Human and The Sound of Perseverence are just about on equal footing for me. They were a great band. Shame Chuck Shuldiner got cancer. :( Band: Opeth Album: Blackwater Park Still Favourite?: I think Ghost Reveries just beats it. Band: Faith No More Album: The Real Thing Still Favourite?: On the whole, yeah. It would be hard to go past it.

Bigfoot?
Perhaps it's no surprise that these guys aren't just innocent bystanders but have deep vested interests in the media hype. It's kind of sad that people like this have no qualms in duping others for their own selfish gains. Or... the whole thing could be true. Somehow I think that's getting less and less likely. Apparantly they were going to do an autopsy next (an autopsy of a gorilla costume? :P ) so it should be interesting to see what comes of that.

The official(?) GUESS THAT SONG! Thread.
Static-X happens to be my sister's favorite band and Dirthouse happens to be this song :D We're going to change up the genres a bit, I'd be surprised if anyone got this besides Assassin. (No guessing Assassin! :D ) I'll know if you cheated, trust me. [hide=]This my excavation and today is kumran Everything that happens is from now on This is pouring rain This is paralyzed I keep throwing it down two-hundred at a time It's hard to find it when you knew it When your money's gone And you're drunk as hell On your back with your racks as the stacks as your load In the back and the racks and the stacks are your load In the back with your racks and you're un-stacking your load I've twisting to the sun I needed to replace The fountain in the front yard is rusted out All my love was down In a frozen ground There's a black crow sitting across from me; his wiry legs are crossed And he's dangling my keys he even fakes a toss Whatever could it be That has brought me to this loss? On your back with your racks as the stacks as your load In the back and the racks and the stacks of your load In the back with your racks and you're un-stacking your load This is not the sound of a new man or crispy realization It's the sound of the unlocking and the lift away Your love will be Safe with me[/hide] Re:stacks by Bon Iver. Great song from a great album. Try this one people: [hide=]I know the feeling It is the real thing The essence of the truth The perfect moment That golden moment I know you feel it too I know the feeling It is the real thing You can't refuse the embrace... It's like the pattern below the skin You gotta reach out and pull it all in And you feel like you're too close So you swallow another dose The pinnacle of happiness Filling up your soul You don't think you can take any more You never wanna let go To touch the roots of experience The most basic ingredients To see the unseen glitter of life And feel the dirt, grief, anger and strife Cherish the certainly of now It kills you a bit at a time Cradle the inspiration It will leave you writhing on the floor... This is so unreal, what I feel This nourishment, life is bent Into a shape I can hold A twist of fate, all my own Just grit your teeth, make no sound Take a step away and look around Just clench your fist and close your eyes Look deep inside, hypnotize The whisper is but a shout That's what it is all about Yes, the ecstasy, you can pray You will never let it slip away Like the sacred song that someone sings through you Like the flesh so warm that the thorn sticks into Like the dream you know one day will come to life Try to hold on just a little longer, stronger It's the jewel of victory The chasm of misery And once you have bitten the core You will always know the flavor The split second of divinity You drink up the sky All of heaven is in your arms You know the reason why It's right there, all by itself And what you are, there is nothing else You're growing a life within a life The lips of wonder kiss you inside And when it's over the feeling remains It all comes down to this The smoke clears, I see what it is That made me feel this way... This is so unreal, what I feel Flood, sell your soul, feel the blood Pump through your veins, can't explain The element that's everything Just clench your fist and close your eyes Look deep inside, hypnotize Yes, the ecstasy, you can pray You will never let it slip away Like the echoes of your childhood laughter, ever after Like the first time love urged you to take it's guidance, in silence Like your heartbeat when you realize you're dying, but you're trying Like the way you cry for a happy ending, ending... I know[/hide]

Definitely thumbs up. Picked it up the other day. But for now it's The Real Thing by Faith No More for me.

Bigfoot?
I think what they're doing is largely to generate media hype. The reason being that everyone is going to see "DNA evidence" as authoritative, which it is in the right contexts, but what it can actually tell us in this case is a different story. What it can do, I suppose, is determine one of the following: -- if the DNA is manufactured nonsense such a bunch of random G's, C's, T's and A's with no genes/known genetic markers (I doubt that they'd go to that much effort to make a fake); -- if it's the DNA of a known organism and thus possibly a contamination of the sample/fake; -- if it's human DNA and thus possibly a contamination of the sample/fake; -- if it's DNA from another primate and thus a fake (try to match what it looks like with some semi-believable DNA), or; -- if the DNA is of an unknown mammalian species. To be successful as judged by modern science, it would presumably have to be similar to primate DNA (going by its appearance in the photos) but not identical to it. This kind of result, hopefully repeated in other labs, would prove that it's not human or other primate DNA. I don't know exactly what they're looking for. The best I could see them doing is finding unknown DNA similar to a primate's. That's the best they could do, but in no way does that prove that this is "bigfoot DNA", whatever that is. They'd have to define the species before they define the DNA. Again, I think they just want to awe people with big claims of having "DNA evidence". I'd say many people who hear that claim (including the media) won't actually analyse what it means.

the best guitarists ever?
Believe me I have seen most of his other work, because I really do hate his radio stuff. I heard about his "good" work from a friend, but I don't think he's one of the best guitarists because of it. I don't really think he's one of the best ever either, I just thought you weren't aware that he could actually handle a guitar pretty well. Clearly, I was wrong.

Bigfoot?
I just love how the news report sais that the DNA evidence "failed to prove bigfoots existence." I don't think they really stop to think that we'd need a known bigfoot sample as a basis of comparison to actually prove that this is bigfoot DNA.

What If...
That'd be me. No religious upbringing. My family are completely neutral to the idea. That is to say that it's not an issue for us any more than Kazakhstani politics are. Having said all that, I did go to a religious school (Lutheran) and it was a good experience. I just didn't see any sense in the idea of religion/beliving in god. Come to think of it I never seriously thought about religion until after I left school. Obviously, it still means nothing to me. I can respect the right of others to believe but it simply doesn't resonate with me.

Bigfoot?
Very unimpressive DNA results. No further analysis to speak of yet. Did they say they're going to do a second round of testing? Edit: Suggestions that the guys who found it can't get their stories straight: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld ... 1219.story Also there is a video with a picture of it's mouth and a picture of one alive in the woods. You'd think they'd go absolutely wild with a camera and show off every angle of this thing, not just a few pics.

Live Concerts
I agree with the point on volume. I mean sure, crank it up like crazy, but no so much that it's almost indistinguishable noise and in an eclosed club. It's not always that bad, though.

It's A-Level Results time! (UK Exams)
Congrats to everyone who got what they wanted. You're all going to love uni, I'm sure of it.

I think I've heard that song before, very Marylin Manson-ish. Not really my style though, thanks anyway. :P

Live Concerts
I'm not the most avid gigger in the world but I've been to a few. The atmosphere depends on the band. What I mean is that I didn't go and mosh when I went to see Neil Diamond and I didn't sit in a chair when I went to see Lamb of God or Parkway Drive, etc.

Who is God to YOU? (Not necessarily a Theist question)
I don't believe in any god but like Zierro, I find a personification conception the least believable. If I were the believing type, I'd probably see god the way Einstein did - god is the natural harmony and order of the universe. Some sort of Pantheism.

Try some Faith No More: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr5gdrj6bZQ - Falling To Pieces http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=nsETamxkT9E - Epic http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=ESjyB8EMw4w - Midlife Crisis http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=5irHyoRNcRY - Everything's Ruined http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=AtoCY0em0qk - Ricochet http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=PFYU0m3617E - Evidence I don't think I've come across any Faith No More fans here yet. I've been getting into them recently and now have three of their albums. Good stuff, especially The Real Thing.

the best guitarists ever?
Seriously? You must not listen to much music if you classify Jack White or John Mayer as the best. They might be able to write a catchy tune, but their technical ability is nowhere near most of the guitarists listed so far I've seen a piece on TV abour John Mayer and him performing a few songs/just playing the guitar. Technically speaking, he's quite a good guitarist. I'm sure you can find something on Youtube if you look around enough. From what I was hearing, he was playing some really nice bluesy lead work. Trust me, his studio work doesn't really do him justice as a guitarist.

Probably this or something similar:  Yeah, I still quite like the band.

2012 Olympics Ceremony - let's not throw away over $300mil?
Agreed. Wouldn't it be a powerful message for this contest that's supposed to unite people of all backgrounds to cut all spending on the opening ceremony and just run pictures of abject poverty for a couple of hours. However, realistically speaking Ginger_warrior has a good point. To help with poverty in Africa, you simply can't throw money at them. Giving them incentives and a helping hand to lift themselves off the ground is the only way I can see good being done. You have to teach them to build schools, farms, houses and give them the opportunity to help themselves stimulate their economy. Welfare should only be for those who can't help themselves. Any large scale reliance on welfare payouts (charity) can only breed dependance and stifle initiative and responsibility. I think a bit of tough love and a little less hippie love is in order when it comes to Africa.

Bigfoot?
Obviously they can't determine if it's a "bigfoot" because they have no basis for comparison, but they can see if it's obviously manufactured DNA or the DNA of another organism. Depending on how much analysis they do, there are a few markers you'd expect to find if it's real mammalian DNA of a yet undiscovered species. I'd suspect if it's a real find they'd try and piece it into some historical context and ask the question of what it's derived from/related to. Still, somehow I doubt that this is anything significant.

Cosmetic Surgery
In principle transgendered people and the surgery that they may choose to get doesn't bother me. It's a serious issue, though. Ideally each one should undergo some serious psychological evaluation beforehand.

The government and its control over us.
I absolutely hate that when there's a problem in modern society we look to ban things instead of telling parents to take initiative and responsibility. Seriously, parents need to kick their obese kids off the computer or playstation and go ride a bike or something. Or at least the government needs to stop giving them a free ride by acting as parents by proxy with all sorts of bans and nanny-state regulations. Its a real shame that people who arent obese have to pay for the weak parenting decisions of people with obese kids. The same argument applies to censorship instead of parents being stricter about what their kids can see, governments censor things. Again, I absolutely hate that attitude. Give me a classification, don't censor what I can see. Im over 18 and should be able to view what I want unimpeded. No one should have the right to dictate to me what's fit for me to see, especially given the fact they have to first view it themselves and make a judgment on my behalf.
