  1. wait... we actually did have a rant of the week? why wasnt i informed of this? was it just one of tip.its many hidden updates?
  2. hmmm.... maybe Ards looking into a plausible solution. lets try and advance things a bit more. heres an idea: you know how we have a weekly tip.it times, right? well what about a weekly tip.it rant? every week, well have a different author (or possibly the same guy if we can find an angry enough person) write a rant concerning a different aspect opf runescape, such as scamming, glitches, rudeness, etc. etc. the rants will, of course, be well written, and have a clear opinion to them that other tip.iters can reply to and express their views. what do you guys think of that?
  3. hmm... yeah, maybe that would work. see, the big problem with the open stickies, as stated by Ard, is that they need constant maintanence(sp?) and cleaning. the idea behind a full delete of all new posts is that it is probably much easier to delete them all, rather than sift through them one by one to filter out the spam and flames. i suppose that if theres a really riveting, controversial, and/or well thought out post, and the mod notices it, then it could be added to the originals and used as a part oft he original example, but the entire idea is to make as little work for the mods as possible.
  4. well, heres a thought to add to trojans ideas. the price check sticky, which gets questions and updated practically everyday, is generally "cleaned out" whenever it gets to more and two or three pages. i have "cleaned out" with quote marks because what happens is the mod just comes in and deletes everything but the first post and has the thread just restart itself. perhaps we could do something similar to that, where we have the starter post, then a few(perhaps that first pages worth) replies to it explaining different viewpoints, suggestions, etc. etc. and then we sticky the thread and leave it open for debate. after it gets a few pages long, a mod simply comes in and deletes everything but the first page, allowing the topic to stay alive and basically reseting it for future debate. this way, the topic can be debated for a few days, and the people involved can get all their viewpoints across, then after its all said and done, the next set of people who didnt get to see the first debate can have their own debate. hows that fair for an idea?
  5. whoops indeed! im probably wrong in his level 3-ness, as it was a good year ago that i saw this happen. however, i know that when i moused over him, his name appeared green and he ran in and got one-hit by the dragon with no armor on. i was... if im right... perhaps level 57-ish at the time, so he had to be a lot lower than that, and he may have just scraped by with the lesser. either way, though, he was a lower level player and i he did scream "leroy jenkins" and he did get one hit by elvarg. i was at least partially sure he was some level with a 3 in it. he couldve been a level 30-something, or maybe like level 23 or something. but you get my point, though.
  6. well the problem with that is that there was something like that in the rants guide where links to raichase's and my threads were posted, but those fell off the backend of the rants board and were never seen again. however, if, instead of posting links to threads, we actually had the thread be the sticky, then that may work out. who knows, it could work. well, the only problem i see with that lies in my writing style. see, my problem is that while i can write great things on the spur of the moment, i cant rewrite them very well. i could make a try at rewriting my f2p vs. p2p rant, but i know it wouldnt be as good as the original as id be lacking the original feelings and attitude that i had when i wrote it. it is a good idea, though, and i would be happy to try to write my veiws on some things and see how they compare with other great ranters like zub and gid.
  7. well, in my two-ish years playing this game, ive had several things happen to me that were odd. the oddest of which happened just before i finished dragon slayer, back on f2p. i was sitting outside of elvargs cage, waiting my turn to finish the quest and i was talking to this other random guy about strategies to beat elvarg when this odd level 3, (and i swear to all the gods you can think of, on a stack of holy texts that i am not kidding you at all) named "LeroyJ" runs up from out of nowhere screaming "leeeeerooooooooyyy!!!!" and runs into the cage where he shouts "jeeeeeeenkiiiiiinssssss!!!!!!" just as hes one hit by elvarg's firebreath! all me and the other guy could do was go" me: "umm... was that lvl3..." him: "yes... he was leroy jenkins...0.o" i completely kid you not.
  8. just a quick question. which world is the nature crafting world? i need a bunch of free rc xp
  9. well, i went and killed it by myself a few days ago. im lvl 67 combat and theres a small secret you need to know. just go in with enough armor to last for a while. take some prayer pots, and a lot of good food. also, take that DD with the strongest poison you can get for it. now, once you find it, turn on protect from melee and hit it until it gets poisoned. now just run from it until you can trap it on a jutting edge. thats all you have to do. now wait for the poison to wear off and repeat. the only bad thing is that after it gets down to half health, most of the time, it will dig away instead of fighting you. if it does, run around until you find it and repeat the process. make sure you bring some energy pots as well as youll be needing them. its a slow, boring process and it took me an hour to do it last time, but hey, how many other level 67's can say they singled the giant mole? :
  10. me and a friend were talking one day about the genie random when suddenly, he got one. after he chose his xp gift, we thought it was pretty cool that he got a genie when that was our topic of discussion. suddenly, i myself got a genie! talk about timing, huh? i just wish we were talking about mimes or drill demons ;)
  11. hey, zub, gid, stal, swamp, and any of the other "old ranters" that have been around for a while, if i havent said so already, nice to see you all again :) anywho, i really actually quite like the debate and discussion that im seeing here. IMO, this is much better than my last thread, which was pretty much full of kudos and nothing more. there, i could inflate my ego at will. here, i can watch, speculate, debate, and come up with new ideas. its a good thing \ anyway, heres my latest idea. i was reading through the rants guide, and while it does tell us a great deal about what we cant rant about, and a bit about how to rant, im not sure if its clear enough to provide new ranters who actually want to try and rant properly with the knowledge to do so effectively. let me elaborate a bit. now, this is a good start, ill admit, but i think we could probably clear it up a bit more. remember, a good guide is a detailed guide. what if we were to add examples to the guide? ill give one here. if i were to follow the rules that i quoted above, as well as the list of things your not supposed to rant about, then i can easily come up with an example of a poor rant thats not against the rules, such as this: (ill use an idea taken from a recent thread i saw. anything in parenthesis(sp?) is me pointing out things within the example)[beginfakerant]i HATE being tag teamed in the wildy! the reason why i stay in the single combat areas is so i can fight other pkers one on one and they have to go and tag team me and heal up while the others kill me!(Don't just write a quick blurb saying, "It stinks"....post the facts about WHY IT STINKS) i can handle being pk'd in the wildy, but when im in single combat areas and its by a group of people, then its stupid! jagex should make it so you have to wait longer to attack different targets!(make suggestions)[/endfakerant] as you can see, it didnt blatantly break any of the rules of the rant guide, but i can easily see people flaming this rant for being about getting pkd in the wildy, when its clearly about the method of tag teaming. not only that, but i could see many shouts of "then dont go into the wildy if you cant fight" and other such one line sizzlers. if i were to rewrite this the way i personally wouldve written it, then it wouldve gone more like this: [beginfakerant]well, while i do know that the wilderness is a dangerous place that is very likely to see me get killed, i always thought there were certain rules that even it had to abide by. the particular rule that i now have a problem with is the rules of single and multiway combat zones. today, i was walking up through the levels of the wilderness deep in a single combat zone, looking for things to pk when i was mobbed by a pack of pkers. "no problem" i said, "i can take a few of them out before running". well, i got the first guy down to about half health and he begins running. i run after him, but after a few steps, another guy begins attacking me. i begin pummeling him when i notice the first guy eating and healing himself. "oh no" i thought, "im being tag teamed!" well i realized that i couldnt defeat them this way no matter how hard i tried, so i began running, but soon died anyway when my energy ran out. my problem with this doesnt lie with my being pk'd but the fact that i was pk'd by a group of them in a single combat zone. it always seemed to me that if you in a single combat zone, you should only be able to attack, and be attacked, by one person at a time. i think that if jagex were to increase the time that you have to wait between attacking a target and attacking a new target, then this may at least help the problem out a bit. suggestions? questions? comments?[/endfakerant] i suppose there could be better examples, but you get my point, right? the example of a good rant that ive put here would still have gotten a few flame posts by the trolls, but i think it couldve sparked some decent conversations and debate. it may or may not have been locked, but it still stood a much better chance than the bad rant example.
  12. may i ask how id be a good example of this? if i remember correctly, it may be that my first rant(you all know the one) was also my first official post on the forums, as far as i can remember. i cant confirm that, though, as when i searched for all my old posts, it only gave me my most recent 7 results... :-k
  13. Heavies??? Are you calling me HEAVY???? im almost entirely sure he meant heavy as in "heavy-hiter" or, more appropriately, higher-up. he was basically saying that he told us hed get someone who had the power to change things, and he was right, because it attracted you to the thread. :D (i think i really have to stop visiting this thread at 1:30 in the morning... im way too tired to spell check at this time of night...)
  14. Thoughts? actually, i quite like that idea. a time constraint is something that ive seen on various forums before. it allows people to lurk a bit before posting. the only way that i could see such a thing failing would be if a new user were to sign up, see the warning and simply go away for a few days and wait for the warning to go away before mindlessly posting spam. oh, heres an idea! now, first, ill say that im not sure of the implimentability of this idea, as its meant for a different style of forum, but maybe it could be the inspiration for a new idea. im a member of the site www.roosterteeth.com (red vs. blue is teh awesome! ) and one of the core components of their forum is a user "karma" system. practically everything you do increases your karma. everytime you put something new in your profile, every time you post a comment in someone elses profile, every time you give or recieve a new picture comment, or anything else that effects something else on that site, you get a certain amount of karma. after a while, your karma level goes up. if it reaches level 15, you get the ability to post new threads on a board, instead of just posting comments in existing ones. i imagine that we could fully adapt this to our runescape fansite here. imagine each user having a... umm... lets call it... familiarity level. when they join, its at level 1. as they do things around the site, like post in topics, write pms, etc. etc., they gain familiarity xp. when they get enough xp, the familiarity level goes up by 1. if they do things that are counter productive, like get posts deleted or removed, get threads locked, start flamewars, etc. etc. a mod can remove familiarity xp from their level and even move them down a level if its bad enough. while its at level 1, they can simply post in existing topics in the "general f2p and p2p" boards. at level 3, they can post new threads in the various "market" boards as well in the "general f2p and p2p" boards. at level 5, they gain new threads in "help and advice", "clues, clues, clues", the "clan recruitment" board, and the "off topic board". at level 7, they gain new threads in the rest of the "clan" boards if they have a clan listed in their profile, as well as the "pker" boards. finally, at level 10, they gain full access to all the boards just like we enjoy now. after level 10, well thats basically a way of showing how long youve been here and how active youve been in the community, much like your post count, i suppose. of course, this is just a rough system that i pulled out of the top of my head. im sure that the admins will decide on appropriate levels and experience amounts if they decide to impliment this idea. what do you guys think of this idea? and also, if anyone read my last post about the options i had seen at that time, what did you think of that? any feedback is appreciated. EDIT: ah, yes, thats what i was forgetting to do! (stupid chores interupting my train of thought) hooray for Ard and (if i remember correctly, but feel free to correct me) her swift action on this subject! \ =D>
  15. many thanks for the clarifications, considerations, and comments, Ard, to be honest, i consider it the highest compliment when something im doing directly effects major decisions that will be made in the future and i will definately try to use tis thread to reach an outcome that will be agreable for(at least mostly) everyone  now then, lets consider options that we currently have. when you get right down to it, there isnt much that can be done in the way of making people view the guides on what to post, so moderators are a must. im going to assume that hiring more moderators and/or making the existing ones work more/harder to keep the forum clean would be out of the question, as im sure you guys have a hard enough workload on your hands as it is. now, our second option. creating extra threads for such topics, while a fairly decent idea in theory, wouldnt be an implimentable solution. as Ard stated, those threads are constantly being cleaned by moderators, and id imagine that creating a thread for every single legitimate rant topic would both take up a ton of space on the board(both memory wise as well as visual space), as well as take an exhuberant amount of time to maintain, clean, and police. not only that, but it would eliminate the need for the board itself, as everyone could just post in these threads instead of making their own. not only that, but it would take the originality out of any post that people could make. imagine, if you will, a thread made specifically for people who have been scammed. at first, it would be filled with stories and discussion, but as the pages wore on, people would begin to make posts in the idea of "well, i just had a guy try to pull scam #17 on me, but i recognized it and fooled him", while the next person would reply with "well, today i fell for scam #4. im so angry right now!" and so on and so forth. very boring. then theres a third option which i had been considering for a while now. this idea is actually probably the most implimentable of the three, as far as i can see at this point. i was once a member of a forum, long long ago, that was faced with a similar problem. they had a board dedicated to, in more or less words, "coherent, intelligent discussion". they named this board the "babbling" board. now, the problem that they faced was that this board would often be filled with horrible, bitter flame wars, endless spamming, and all kinds of other problems. the way that they solved this, was to create a new board that was made for the sole purpose of hosting all these annoying flamers, spammers, and pests. they called this board the "incoherent babbling" board(described as "babbling minus intelligence"). for the while that i remained on that forum, things seemed to be going well with concerns to the problem they had. i dont know if helped in the long run, though, but its certainly worth the consideration. i would assume that we would change the name of the rants board to something like "runescape rants" (described as a place to intelligently vent frustration at aspects of runescape that you think can be improved) and the new board would be named something like "general ranting" (described as "a place to vent frustration at practically anything on your own terms"). the new board would be very loosely moderated, as it would be a place for the spammers, flamers, and other pests to hang out. the only real filtering that would have to be conducted would be things that violate the terms of service of the site, such as swearing, advertising the selling of your account, etc. etc.. i feel that if such a board were created, it would attract alot of the undesirable postings away from the other boards in general, as well as give angry people a place to validly argue on their own terms. the exchange that happens is that the "problem posters" as ill just continue to refer to them, will get a place to more or less post whatever angry thing they want, without too much moderation, but in exchange they have to put up with whatever other flamers and spammers are going to say because topics in that b wont be locked for spamming and flaming. so lets recap: we have three options, as far as i can see right at this moment. option 1.) police the board more. hire more moderators or make the ones we have work harder/more strictly option 2.) narrow down the board. make generic stickies for each valid rant point, or option3.) broaden the board. make a seperate board specifically for people who want to write flamey, spammy posts that dont belong on other boards and hope that that attracts them to there, leaving room on this and other boards for real discussion. anyone who has any other ideas, objections, or arguements to make for or against these ideas are more than welcome to do so. in fact, i encourage it, because i want to know what other people think on this matter.
  16. yes, i was, as a matter of fact. see, ive come up with a theory, i can either post freely in a bunch of threads, or save it up and write a prophetic thread every once in a great while :P unfortunately' date=' no. due to unforseen(sp?) circumstances, that thread was irrevocably deleted and wont be coming back. if anyone has a copy somewhere, id absolutely love to see it pm'd to me :) ive never actually left, ive just been in the shadows ;) gid is a welcome sight for me as well. now if someone out there could just get ahold of raichase, whos been MIA for about 2 weeks now... anyway, great to see the feedback, so lets keep it coming :)
  17. A big hello to all you tip.it'ers out there! hows it going for you all tonight? good, i hope. well anyway, let me get down to business. after your done reading, if youd like to post your opinion on this subject, or prefferably, if you like to continue reading this thread and post your opinions on what should happen to the rants forum, then please feel free to do so. there are decisions being made through this rant that could change the way the rants forum works, so please post your opinions on this matter! warning: long post ahead. go to the kitchen, grab a snack and a drink, go use the bathroom, then come back, cause your in for a fairly long read. ok, here it goes. i joined this forum... oh, about a year ago, i suppose... the specific time escapes me right now. anyway, in that time, ive observed many things changing around this forum. for a long while, ive browsed this particular board. ive lurked, watched, and read through many, many threads and theres a disturbing trend that ive noticed on this board in recent months. no longer is this the rants board, its become the complaints board and that HAS to stop. what i want you to do, is go and hit the back button on your browser. go back to the "rants" board list of topics, and do two things. 1). look at all the locked topics. count them. compare the number of locked topics to unlocked topics. as of me writing this rant, there are... 46 total topics on the first page. 23 of those are locked. let me repeat that, because its the kind of thing that bares repeating. 23 of the 46 topics on the front page of the rants board are locked. for those of you who cant do simple division, that totals to an even half of the total topics on the front page. now, do this: 2). look at the names of these locked topics. without actually visiting the topics, just judge the topic by its name. at the time im writing this, heres some of the name of the locked topics on the front page of the rants board: "BEAR FUR, CHICKEN FEATHER, GOBLIN MAIL WHAT IS THAT?", "The Wilderness", "Muted For Talking About Tip.It"... the list goes on. do you notice anything odd about these topic titles? i do, and if you dont, youll find out whats odd about them in just a second. ok, now youll find out why those topics are odd. without even looking at the initial post, you can tell that they are topics about a person who has found something to complain about. now, dont get me wrong, when i dont like something, i can get vocal about it. but for something as trivial as goblin mail, or being muted? i dont see why i or anyone else should bother. i know its a waste of space and that posting threads such as that would be instantly frowned upon. unfortunately, with all the new, impatient members joining tip.it in recent months, theres less and less chance that people will read the "Rant Guide - How to Rant and What NOT to Post." sticky that contains all the information that anyone would ever need to know about writing rants. what i believe, and feel free to correct me if im wrong, is that a few people are posting these complaintive threads, and before they leave the front page, people see them and think its ok to post other such complaintive threads. this is, of course, not the case. if i could merely change one thing about people today, it would be to make them more patient and watchful. i dont know about all of you, but before i do anything, i research it. i find out all there is to know about it before i do anything. its the same with any forum i go to. i browse, lurk, and otherwise watch whats being posted so that i can get a feel of whats acceptable material in that forum. if i were to just find this forum today, id assume that the rants forum was for letting out frustration at annoying people that have killed me for stupid reasons in the game. im going to repost the list of things that are not ok to rant about that you can find in the "Rant Guide - How to Rant and What NOT to Post." sticky. hopefully, more people will see it here than have seen it in the sticky itself. here it is: "What Not to Post Don't duplicate or state the obvious. This includes: All things NOOB...I'm tired of being called a noob, being a noob, players acting like noobs (n33b, nub, choob, etc)! F2P needs updates! I hate P2P or F2P people because...! Rude/mean people stink! I got muted/banned! Rare prices stink/rares should be removed! I got pk'd in the wild/running the abyss! Players who pray or teleport in the wild stink! I got hacked! I got scammed! I got outmined! I hate macroers! I hate this or that clan! Boyfriends/Girlfriends, Weddings, etc. are stupid" now, as you may have noticed, i have underlined a few things in that quote. those underlined things are the worst offenders that i see. in recent times, those few topics seem to have dominated the board and really must be put to an end. i can think of plenty of things that could qualify as good rants right off the top of my head. things such as "a basic stat potion for each class would really be helpfull for f2p", "i believe that making [insert character type here] was made too hard to effectively achieve", or "the language filter has a detrimental effect on gameplay". when properly structured, these topics can stimulate conversation, debate, and bring about differing viewpoints as well as give insight into a situation which may actually need attention from jagex for correction. unfortunately, about half of what we seem to get is a slew of half thought out, poorly written, unorganized ramblings about being banned, meeting annoying people, and being tag teamed while walking alone in the wildy. this truely is a sad thing and its a shame to see so much space on the boards wasted to these topics. so to sum it up, if everyone would just take the time to look things over, think things through, plan things out, and say things right, we would all be alot better off. and at least the mods wouldnt have to spend so, much time locking improper rants. neogeo0823
  18. i saw the warning sign and didnt bother to go in untiliresearched the wildy a bit. from then on, i never went in with more than 3 items. ever.
  19. heres one i just found out yesterday: paying for membership: $5 approximate value of the time it takes to train your character to the levels required to go on the cool looking quests in the quest list: $30 bumbling all the way from ardougne(because of lack of tele runes) to the sanguinesti region and fumbling all the way into the back of the meiyerditch ghettos with heavy melee armor and a full load of food and other combat items because you expect to be fighting a hoarde of powerful vyrewatch when all you needed was the knife that you forgot and cant find anywhere in the ghettos: priceless some things, money cant buy. for such things, theres the tip.it quest guides.(i swear, the requirements made it looks so easy!)
  20. ok, guys, lets be reasonable, serious, and intelligent for a moment. and in that order, i might add. firstly, theres no way that summoning and hunting could be the same thing. summoning has to do with bringing animals to your side through various means. hunting has to do with skillfully trapping, killing, and selling the byproducts of animals. secondly, look at this skill from a standalone point of view. dont think of it as "oh, this isnt combat, its worthless" or "oh, this is gonna be a money sink, like construction". look at it like its the only skill out there, in otherwords, dont go comapring it to other skills, see it as its own thing. for me, i see this as an interesting, fun skill. it will finally give us a use for those animal furs, and maybe help us make a bit of profit. it will take alot of strategy to skillfully trap animals, then kill em and sell their furs to the right guy for money and new equipment. finally, just because it doesnt comform to your high standards of money making and easy of use and integrity with other skills, dont instantly denounce it as worthless. all skills have a use and all skills are valuable in their own way. just wait till the skill comes out and then youll see for yourself.
  21. wowy wow! its been a long time since ive seen this thread! ok, so lets recap here. after 13 pages, what have we learned about the WoM?
  22. my 2 cents: for f2p go with prayer, hitpoints, or ranged for p2p go with prayer, farming, herblore, or construction these skills often take the most time/money to train and n the end are probably the most beneficial to you.
  23. and that, ladies and gents, is about the only legal thing you can do to "block" the ads. by "block", i mean literally block them out of your viewing window, of course. all you have to do is take your full sized screen, which looks like this: __________ |..... ad .......| |_________| |..................| |.....game ...| |_________| and reduce its size so that it looks like this: .................... :.adisgone..: :_________: <-- this is the top of your window, just below the ad |..................| |....game.....| |_________| this way, the ad is still on the page, but visibly blocked. ive found, back when i was f2p, that it greatly helped reduce lag and headaches from those horrible, mind numbing, flashing ads. the only problem that would ever occur would be when you got an ad with sound(the fly w/flyswatter or the paparazzi ads come to mind :x :wall: ) beacause then you had to reload the window and hope for an ad with no sound. and as far as i can tell, its completely in accordance with the rules, because your not actually blocking the ad, just removing it from sight. now all you need to do is regularly scan your computer for viruses and tracker cookies(something which regularly gets implanted into your computer, i might add) and your all set.
  24. i would defiantely farm more often and use the items for cooking if the items to be grown just didnt take so long. i dont get alot of time to play the game, so i can can only be on a for about an hour a day if im lucky. i dont have the time to sit around for, what, like 370ish minutes waiting for a tree to grow. i dont have time to stand next to my patch, watering it and feeding it plant cure for 35 minutes waiting for an allotment to grow, when that is half of my play time, all for abou half a dozen cabbages that i could pick in 10 seconds. why should i wait so long when instead i could be out questing, killing things, thieving, hanging out with friends, or doing whatever else i have to do. thats basically my only complaint on the subject. that and that the farm stores dont ever buy any vegetable that ive tried to sell them for any reasonable price.
  25. my one and only complaint is the run button. thats the only thing that any kind of inconvenient. other than that, this new updates kicks more behind than a roshambo machinen that was programmed backwards!
