  1. so, i logged on tonight with the intent to check out whats been going on as of late and i see i have a message from stihl. i read that message and, as fast as the internet will take me(which, it turns out, is alot faster than i can run), head straight to the rants forum where my jaw promptly performed the following action: you know, at this point, words cannot do much to describe how i feel, so i will use these three(4 if you count the one i didnt have to search for) other smilies i found while trying to find that previous one to acurately convey how i feel. to stihl, i say... gesture... umm... whatever, this: (and yes, i do actually check around fairly often, i just never find anything overly postworthy most of the time) to Ard, i... umm... copy and paste(there we go!) this: and finally, to all the other tip.iters, i copy and paste this: hopefully, this will make things alot smoother around here for us all  (finally, as a side note, id like to apologize for the smiley spam, but its 2am here and i didnt have the energy to type out a huge responce. besides, i think those smilies actually fit in quite well)
  2. i have a miriad of phrases that i absolutely detest hearing in my runescape day. heres a quick list of them in no real order, other than the one that my head decides to shove them to my fingers. 1. (while im standing around doing something mundane like woodcutting or fishing) "omg reported autoer!" 2. (in any bank) bsale bsale bsale bsale bsale bsale bsale bsale bsale bsale bsale ... 3. "(insert skill here) lvlz?" 4. (anytime i do something someone else doesnt like) "omg n00b!" 5. (while im wearing my elemental helm) "look! hes wearing a blue g-string on his head lol!" 6. (anywhere where theres a lot of people) "i got hacked i need stuff plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz!"
  3. see, look at this now. i go and dissappear for one day, just one day, to buy the nintendo wii and spend said day playing legend of zelda: twilight princess and look what i miss! this is exactly what ive been waiting and hoping for, Ard  hmm... ok, ill use stihl's reply to your initial post on this bit as the basis for my reply, as he has pretty much said what i wouldve said. ill just edit where necessary.(in bold) It is indeed! I scarcely think I can applaud your dedication to this near-dead topic enough. =D> Wait, simultaneously? That made me do a double-take, I thought they were separate options. Okay, here we go: [*:3aslfq74]Revise the Rant forum description and guidelines to focus more on "rant and run" concept, not debating.Makes sense to me, if we're creating a subforum. Who needs two boards with the same focus? this is actually what i always felt the rants forum itself should have been for. the idea just seemed to fit very well for the theme that was presented, however it also always confused me that those quick rants were always looked down upon. granted, it may have been because about 90% of them were horrible, but then again, thats what you can expect from one liners [*:3aslfq74]Add "rant and run" sticky threads for the redundant one-liner topics. These would be clean slates for users to reply with their own rantings. Links to these threads would be listed in the new guidelines.I'm guessing that if you considered the updates and "noob" stickies to be failures, you wouldn't be proposing this. The theory here is good - a small input of effort which yields a far larger output of organization and cleanliness. so your saying that there will be stickies for certain ultra redundant topics where people can go and post "i hate so and so" and "i think that this class is unbalanced" etc. etc.? i would think and hope that this reduces alot of the clutter, and makes the new rants forum for managable, but as with anything uncertain, well just have to wait and see. If I wanted to say there's a problem with this, it'd be that there are a great deal of one-liner subjects, and nobody wants to wade through a great deal of stickies - make it general (catch as much crap as possible), make it concise (make it obvious what fits and what doesn't), pick out 4-5 of the worst offenders and sticky 'em. Advocate that, and I'm in. agreed [*:3aslfq74]Create a "Debate Club" subforum and accompanying rules for the hard core debaters. Can we have the old storage room for our club? this fits in with my suggestion perfectly. its exactly what i was thinking. also, if your looking for a name... hmmm... how about... "the podium in the closet"? it implies a sort of secret, almost closed forum that isnt as open and general as the new rants forum. of course, being in a closet and not, say, in a bank vault, its still possible for people to find and enter it, of course ;) [*:3aslfq74]Initially, I don't envision a minimum post count to see how it is used in conjunction with the revamped Rant forum. In theory, the fly-by ranters can take care of what they need to vent on the main rant forum. If needed, we can add permission requirements later. The implications of a "rant board" and a "debate board" are quite different. I can't imagine a drive-by ranter getting confused about which is for what, so I doubt requirements would be necessary. Rare cases can be solved with a "wrong forum" report. agreed the second. its inevitable that one forum will get the occasional post meant for the other forum. The only thing I'm worried about is the state of the main rant forum - it could stabilize, or it could deteriorate into a place for trolls to hang out. Mind you, that's as much a weakness of the posters as a weakness of the forum, if not moreso. Heavy trollers are not immune to banning, and I imagine some warning on the subject could be placed in the Rant Guide just so there is no room to complain...well, to be perfectly honest, if the new rants forum is going to be set up for the random one liners, steam blowers, and other unwanted rants, it would obviously be a target for angry trolls and spammers. but that would be the point thats trying to be put across, now wouldnt it? the only way that i could see it getting horribly out of hand would be if a flame war starts in a thread. to that end, i propose that, if its possible, a post limit be placed on all threads in the new rants forum. lets say that this limit is one page. after one full page of posts, the thread is automatically locked and/or put up for review by a mod for possible moving to the debate forum. this would help lock spammy, flamey threads and move well made, debate worthy rants much more easily. it would eliminate the need for a mod to patrol the forum as much to find "worthy" rants and overall save alot of work. For the record, I think it's wisest if we encourage the debate types to initiate their own debate on any given subject, as opposed to trying to get a rant on that subject moved to the subforum. If a rant happens to be particularly insightful, we can make good use of the "quote" and "private message" buttons - again, the difference between the main forum and sub-forum is clear enough that we can expect users to pick the one which fits their desires, no matter how insightful they might happen to be. this is true, but like i said, youll always get those odd threads that are in the wrong forum Overall a very sensible idea.agreed the third
  4. thieving FTW!i could use a good $100 or cooked lobster every once in a while. failing that, give me mage or attack. id like to amaze and dazzle my opponents with magic and then run while their distracted, or be super accurate with my sniper rifle. either way, really.
  5. *jumps for joy at what has to be the best xmas gift i have recieved this year(i only got clothes irl )* hooray! the item database is out! im using it now and i will dutifully report that ive found a small bug with the shark entry(it could be in other entries as well, i havent checked yet). the "back to item database" button doesnt function properly. i click it, but nothing happens. a minor inconvenience at most, but still PR worthy. EDIT: the button is nonfunctional for all(or at least the 5 ones i tried) items in the database
  6. hmmm... or not? have there been any updates or recent issues that need to be discussed? im still interested in hearing about what habits exactly are being noted and if there any trends or anything that need to be discussed. i dont want to see this thread die, so if the topic can be steered to a semi-related topic that has the ultimate goal of fixed the main topic, ill be happy with that.
  7. well, looking around, i see lots of posts from the epic and atari forums. im somewhat of an unreal tournament fan. hmm... ooh, newgrounds from a year ago, thats pretty old. hmm... red vs. blue... ah, here we go. apparently theres an anime fanatic whos using my name. posting on the gaia forums and another anime board... oh, heres me on dogs of the seas, which is a piratey mmorpg... and thats about it, i suppose. yeah... 5 pages on google isnt that famous, i suppose.
  8. hi there! im neogeo0823! ive been playing for about 2 years now, but i joined the forums a year ago. since then, ive done my best to set good examples for new tip.it members, give away good advice, and above all else, have fun. : you might remember me from the thread currently in the rants forum titled "this is the rants forum, not the complaints forum"(feel free to add to the conversation there) or, if youve been here for a while, you might also remember me from my older, and sadly gone, thread titled "the ultimate, final word on f2p vs. p2p". by the way Ard, if you read this, this next bit is something i whipped up a while ago for new members. its a greeting/primer that, i feel, sets a good standard and mood for pretty much all of tip.it. if you like it, feel free to edit it into your first post for newbies to read. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hello! since your new here, please take the time to read this primer/welcome message from all of us here at tip.it! hello, welcome to the boards. please take a few minutes to read over the rules, just so your well informed. i recomend lurking the forums(thats looking without posting) for a few days so your familiar with how things work on a more intricate(that means "detailed") level. please try to make sure that you make relevant posts and topics to keep flaming of your person and topic locking by mods down to a minimum. youll find that generally, were a happy bunch thats always ready to answer your questions, provided that you use the help and advice forum. were happy to discuss issues of runescape on the general forums but please make sure you use the search button if your unsure of whether or not a topic has been made before. if one has been made, and its last reply was more than a month ago, then feel free to make a new topic if its at least a fairly current event. the general population feels that a new thread about "how rediculous the price of phats is", as an example, is really an old issue that doesnt need to be discussed. if your feeling adventurous, you can venture onto the rants board and try your hand at arguing or make a topic about how something within runescape bugs you. if you do, please, above all else, please read the stickied topic at the top entitled "rant guide - how to rant and what NOT to post". this is a life saver and will definately save you the frustration of the mighty flames of the rant lurkers, like zubeedoo, stihl, and myself, to name a few. if you need to buy or sell something you could always try the market forums, but please make sure that you use the appropriate board for the type of item your selling. if you dont get a response right away, dont worry, just be patient and only bump your topic up if it falls off the front page. other than that, just try to be a nice person, dont be too spiteful in an arguement, try to remain calm, level headed, and mature, and im sure youll be very warmly welcomed here. finally, if you have any questions, feel free to send me a pm and ill be glad to help clear them up for you. happy scaping (god i love copy and paste :XD: )
  9. true on all points, i suppose. the best thing you can ever hope for is to reduce unwanted redundancy, spam, etc., because even if you have a fool proof, air tight arguement posted in the rants guide, theres always those people who will not read the guide and post anyway. still, if theres even a small effect, then this thread will have served its purpose. on that note, though, what other sorts of perspectives/habits were you reffering to? maybe we could stear this conversation in a new direction and stir some life into it?
  10. you know what i just noticed? this thread has almost as many views as the rant guide. i dont know whether to laugh or cry at that. on a side note, Ard, ive figured out how you got that sig pic that changes everytime you reload the page. ive filled mine with interesting tidbits thats ive gathered from conversations with npcs in runescape. whqat do you think of my little collection? 8-)
  11. ya know, i had at one point considered changing to female just to see what it would be like, but then when i did so for the recruitment drive quest, i looked horrible. apparently all the junk i owned and wore looked odd on me... probably cause i didnt have it changed over as well :P in any case, i chose my character 2 years ago when i began playing the game and i dont think ill ever change it for very long. heck, the biggest permanent change ive made so far was to change my shoe style when POHs came out.
  12. i wouldnt call myself famous, but i will say i have a small cult following. by small, i mean like 2 people. im kinda like that hazeel cult from the quest. consult stallion 4589 for more info. hes the only "first to die-loyal minion" class member ive yet made :P
  13. hello! since your new here, please take the time to read this primer/welcome message from me, neogeo0823! : hello, welcome to the boards. please take a few minutes to read over the rules, just so your well informed. i recomend lurking the forums(thats looking without posting) for a few days so your familiar with how things work on a more intricate(that means "detailed") level. please try to make sure that you make relevant posts and topics to keep flaming of your person and topic locking by mods down to a minimum. youll find that generally, were a happy bunch thats always ready to answer your questions, provided that you use the help and advice forum. were happy to discuss issues of runescape on the general forums but please make sure you use the search button if your unsure of whether or not a topic has been made before. if one has been made, and its last reply was more than a month ago, then feel free to make a new topic if its at least a fairly current event. the general population feels that a new thread about "how rediculous the price of phats is", as an example, is really an old issue that doesnt need to be discussed. if your feeling adventurous, you can venture onto the rants board and try your hand at arguing or make a topic about how something within runescape bugs you. if you do, please, above all else, please read the stickied topic at the top entitled "rant guide - how to rant and what NOT to post". this is a life saver and will definately save you the frustration of the mighty flames of the rant lurkers, like zubeedoo, stihl, and myself, to name a few. if you need to buy or sell something you could always try the market forums, but please make sure that you use the appropriate board for the type of item your selling. if you dont get a response right away, dont worry, just be patient and only bump your topic up if it falls off the front page. other than that, just try to be a nice person, dont be too spiteful in an arguement, try to remain calm, level headed, and mature, and im sure youll be very warmly welcomed here. finally, if you have any questions, feel free to send me a pm and ill be glad to help clear them up for you. happy scaping :) (god i love copy and paste :P)
  14. maybe hes a steel merchant? i merchanted a cool mil in just a couple hours(not counting the smelting of the steel) simply by standing in a bank shouting "buying all coal/iron ore!" and "selling steel bars!". anyone, even combat level 3's should be able to do that. anyway, on topic, ive never staked before, so i couldnt help you out. you might have a better time finding an answer if you have a mod move this to the help and advice section. EDIT: never mind, just realized that this was in help and advice.
  15. just an fyi, the way your post sounds makes it seem like you want people to come to this dangerous place with good items on, which presents the danger of them being killed and loosing said items. if i were you, id change the post so it doesnt seem to imply that. that said, i would join you guys, but A. i dont own anything flashy or good looking and B. barrows is way too dangerous for one such as me to hang out in. now... if you were to host this in somewhere like... say... the partyhall in seers village (honestly, what is that building for if no one uses it for parties and such?) then id be more than happy to look around for something interesting to wear to it.
  16. ...and then they came out with the "throne of misclenia" quest. stupidest thing i ever heard as a suggestion for runescape would have to be... either being able to pickpocket players and actually steal things from their inventories OR... hmm... maybe being able to teleother monsters from anywhere to anywhere. i mean, things like the KQ into lumbridge would be funny, but imagine herds/hoards/gaggles/groups/mobs of things running everywhere that they werent supposed to be, while in the rest of runescape, theres no monsters... cause their all in varrock, falador, and lumbridge.
  17. there are penguins in the ardougne zoo. other than that, i dont know where the penguins would be from. maybe their trying to escape the zoo and rule runescape? but its already been said that their plotting and its most likely not related to the WOM.
  18. about a day or two ago, i was playing, training hunting, and talking to stallion4589, who was on another world. when i hit the level to begin deadfalling, the conversation went something like this: me: hooray! i can now deadfall kebbits! stallion: nice! me: this should appeal to me because i like crushing stupid things with big, heavy boulders stallion: =p
  19. hey, red vs blue > beavis and butthead anytime : and to disqualify this post from the spam category, ill let you know that im editing the title so that hopefully more people will read this thread. EDIT: no more space to add a bit extra to the title...
  20. true, i suppose. i guess it boils down to matters of "acceptable losses", really. we have a select set of threads that go in this section and after that, theres two choices present. we can either keep what we have and only add really relavant, cutting edge style rants, or we can write out the set of rants that covers the list that we need to cover and not have anymore threads let into that board. the problem i see with the latter is that the board may go stale after a while, as theres nothing new to discuss, while with the former, we run the risk of moving all the quality stuff that we would normally want to see in the rants board over to this new board, thereby making the rants board into this "diseased hulk" you guys keep talking about. its all a matter of give and take. well, consider what other option have been presented. since the start of this thread, ive been trying to find the solution that would require the least amount of work, the least amount of moderation time, and cause the least amount of disruption. once again, its a question of compromise. we could make stickies in the rants board, but that would be messy looking and might need heavy moderation to maintain. we could create a seperate board and mark one for the purpose of spam, but that would instantly become the "diseased hulk" thing that you guys were talking about. we could create an archive of good rants, but it runs the risk of either becoming stale, or taking away from the overal "quality"(and i use that term loosely around most of the time) of the rants board. to me, the logical choice would be the seperate board. it seems to require the least amount of work, and would almost definately help to reduce flaming and spam around here. althought, thats just my point of view. if anyone else would care to argue for a different solution, ill be more than happy to hear what they have to say. heck, if anyone can come up with an easier solution, ill listen to that as well. im pretty much all ears over here as it is. Huh-huh. Hey, Beavith. I'm h****. We need a chick. [/guilty pleasure] umm... yeah... :? uh... :| *walks away* :ohnoes:
  21. i suppose a temporary hunter sticky could be in order, because its only a matter of time before the hunter threads die out almost completely. its just the hype of the new skill and should soon be over. that said, i also agree with the indexing idea thats been discussed over the last couple of posts. my primary concern on that one is making sure that the threads that are linked into that index remain intact. if that can be assured, then im all for it. thought, to make it as useful as possible, it should include not only rants about improper topics, but rants about long debated topics, rants on current popular subjects, any really good rant that would normally be stickied, and the old tip.it rant of the week that would be done, if they were to be reinstated. basically, it would turn into a database of really good rants for people to refference, post opinions on, debate, and discuss. that said, i would still like to see a revival of the weekly tip.it rant, fairly simply cause i never got to see it happen the first time. of course, it wouldnt need to be every week. maybe bi-weekly, or monthly. it could be an interesting sidetrack to the normal rants forum. i mean, a good rant is all in fun, but i know when i see a new thread about the newest tip.it times, i immediately stop what im doing to go and read the new article. if the authors present their rants in an interesting manner, maybe with a joke or two, a bit of witty sarcasm, and a good helping of tiradical(is that a word?) anger, then it really could be an interesting read. either way, though, im going to go back and edit my first post to encourage more people to come and post opinions on this matter. this threads quickly becoming a three man show between me, stallion, and stihl.
  22. two words: shantay reciept. obtained after crossing into the shantay pass. can be read, but its the same text that you have to read when you pass into the desert anyway. other than being read, it has absolutely no use.
  23. Holy cow, neogeo0823 said a dirty word! :o  :P obviously it would be pronouced "tee aye tee", not what your insinuating. :shame: it was extremely late and i was too lazy to write out the whole thing that many times. anyway, onto the part i wans looking at... i had actually suggested something almost exactly like this back a page or two ago, but this is a much simpler, easier to understand version. i think this idea would work well, and i had also said that in that same post. EDIT: the post im talking about is on the first page, in my last post, beggining at the paragraph that starts with "the third option..."
  24. well, then lets not sticky the RotW then. look at the tip.it times article threads. theyre not stickied and they stay pretty popular for a while. heck, i just saw the thread for the T.i.T. article where we interviewed zezima on the front page of the general board today. hey, heres another idea. if the RotW is well written enough, why not feature it on the front page just below the tip.it times? hmm... that probably wouldnt happen...[/wishfulthinking] ...err yeah. back to what i was saying. i think that if we want to get a rant of the week noticed and open for discussion, we would need to feature it in some way. it would be interesting to have a bi-weekly or maybe monthly tirad about things that annoy me in runescape... uhh that is, of course, if such a thing were to happen and i were made a monthly author... :-w
  25. ok, heres my contribution to the thread. the first of these three pictures is of my skilling/wandering outfit. i call it "elidian mage" next, this is my old wandering outfit. behold the salty, briney sea dog that is "diver dan" and finally, heres one that i posted for a best dressed contest a while back. it didnt win, but i thought it was pretty original. this was back before the interface change, so it should be nostalgic for a most of you. what im saying says it all.
