  2. We don't want to completely discourage people from posting. :) The idea is to use it when you strongly agree with a post but don't have anything to add to merit your own comment. This isn't really meant to be like Facebook where you can go around liking everything.
  3. There is an expire feature, but that's not something we utilize. We have our own record-keeping system. For example, if you were to break the rules again, we wouldn't ban you because you now have "x amount of points." We always consider how much time has elapsed since your previous offense before dealing out punishments. But we're not using the built in point expiration system because honestly it kind of confuses things. And for us it's easier to look at points as how many times you have been warned. Again, it doesn't factor into punishments, but it's easier for us to manage. So if you did break the rules again, we'd easily see that you have 1 warn point and thus you have a record topic somewhere (and we document everything in the same user topic). So then we could find that topic and add onto it. But if you have 0 points because 1 expired, our first thought would be that you have a clean record, even though that's not true. Honestly it's kind of hard to explain to someone that isn't a moderator since we have a very specific system :x So sorry if this isn't making much sense. Ultimately, just remember that we don't have a limit and we don't really use a point system. It's NOT as if 5 points = suspension and 10 points = permanent ban. That's not how we work. Just think of it of 1 point = 1 time you've been contacted. Our aim is not to shame you or make you feel bad. But my understanding is that the option is built into the system like this: Allow all other non-protected groups to see their own warn points and reasons [Yes] [No] Right now that is set to "Yes." But if we were to set it to "No," you would no longer see your warn points, which is good (for people who don't like it). But at the same time, you'd no longer have access to the reasons behind your warnings. And we feel it's beneficial for you guys to be able to keep track of your own warnings over time.
  4. Thanks for all your hard work Peter <3:
  5. You could always reupload it somewhere else. I mean I know how that could be annoying, but does it really happen that often? It happens more than I want it to when posting things like ragefaces and stuff. Especially since I haven't enough room to download larger images to my computer due to a lack of hard disk space. Most images have a really small file size. You really don't have enough room to download one image (and delete it right after you upload it)? And even if not, there are many image hosting sites that allow you to upload an image via a URL. So you put in the URL of the original image and then reupload it onto a new host. One example is imgur.

  7. At this point, the only profanity we have censored is the f-bomb and a collection of swear words that are really only used as insults. [hide=Examples - Contains Profanity] [wagon] [bleep] [rooster] [bleep] [bleep] [wagon] [bleep] [bleep] [racist term] [kitty][/hide] Those words have very few non-insulting uses. I don't see those as words you really need to use in casual conversation. I think we've uncensored all the ones that can be used like "shit," "damn," etc.
  8. Partials by Dan Wells was OH MY GOD FREAKIN' AMAZING. If you like dystopian books about viruses/human-like robots/must-save-the-world kind of thing then you will ADORE this book. It's like end of the world, end of humanity, must try to save everything kind of deal. And it was amazing. It kind of reminds me of a combination of iRobot and I Am Legend. Anyway, I'm super psyched to be meeting the author on the 10th! *fangirl scream* Now I'm reading Osric's Wand: The Wand-Maker's Debate by Jack D. Albrecht and Ashley Delay. This is a really interesting book if you're into Eragon-like stuff. Fantasy world, magic, dragons, and so on. Plus it has a purdy cover :P
  9. I know exactly what you mean :P Although I actually do things slightly differently from most Goodreads users. I use the to-read list for books that I own but haven't read yet. And then I have a separate shelf for books that I *don't* own but want to read. I think most people just group them all under the to-read shelf. On an AWESOME note, I just won a Amazon gift card so I'm off to buy 8 more books!    I cba with making extra shelves, I mean I've plugged in over 100 books already and that's just a fraction of the books I've actually read that I want to plug in to get recommendations up and running good. I'm obsessed with keeping things organized and documenting my first edition/signed books, so I have several extra shelves :P
  10. What's the problem with iPhoto? It's been years since I originally set it up but I don't remember ever having any problems with it.
  11. Have you seen the movie too? Just wondering because I had some similar thoughts about the movie and I'm wondering how closely they follow each other. For example, in the movie they spend the entire time building up a love triangle, but at the end there is no resolution. She never picks a guy and the whole thing is just really unclear and was a major let down. Nope, wasn't planning on it either. There isn't a resolution to it, which just screams a sequel to me. Seems like they'll milk the franchise for cash to be honest. Also I forgot to say I read Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver. Dang cliff hangers, got to wait till next feb or so for the next book now :( It gets even better in the second book. Really enjoyed it :) Ohh I literally just ordered Delirium! Can't wait to read it!

  15. Just finished Innocent Darkness by Suzanne Lazear. I would NOT recommend this book. It had some potential but none of it came through and the story got progressively worse, and the main character got ridiculous. Too bad, because the author is coming to my town and I was planning on preordering the book and going to her signing. But then I got a free review copy and I'm canceling my preorder and not going to the signing :/ About to start Partials by Dan Wells. This book has gotten good ratings so I have high hopes. :) I'll also be meeting the author in a few weeks! So I need to finish it before then! :P

  17. Time Machine is awesome and makes the whole backup/revert process very, very easy. I have used it myself as a regular backup device for years and recently used it when reformatting my Macbook and didn't have any issues. The whole thing was very seamless. I was running Leopard when I wanted to reformat. I easily backed up via Time Machine, wiped my drive, upgraded to Lion, and restored my backup.
  18. I have a copy waiting to be read. My sister just finished reading it and said it was amazing.. some really crazy stuff happened near the end (so she says). I've read some great reviews and it's one of the top books right now I think. At least I saw it in a "Best selling" section at a bookstore as I was passing by :P
  19. Cinder by Marissa Meyer - AMAAAAAZING book. It's Cinderella retelling meets cyborg meets futuristic world meets plague meets politics. Super amazing. One of my favourite books so far this year. I also just got an advanced copy of Innocent Darkness, which I'm kind of psyched to read. It has gotten mixed reviews but it's a cool steampunk fairy tale novel - interesting combination! I'm also going to the author's signing in August so it's nice to have a chance to read the book before then. I kind of hate going to signings when I haven't read the book since it makes me feel out of the loop :P
  20. I'm kind of in your shoes. I kept hearing amazing things about it so I started playing AC 1 and got so bored.. I never finished it.
  21. Not sure if I've seen the Dutch ones. I like the British ones though :P The character depictions don't bother me. Since they're cartoony, I still tend to use my imagination anyway! Hehe thanks Ami! :D I LOVE them!
  22. I hope you like it. I personally feel like the only person in the world who doesn't love the books :/ I read A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, and got halfway through A Storm of Swords before giving up. I LOVE the overall story of a kingdom at war, people wanting the throne, dragons, etc., but I felt like the whole story moved way too slowly for me and there were too many characters I didn't care about whose chapters I had to read. :( Then when I'd finally get to a character I love, I'd feel like nothing happened in their chapter. I hope you like it more than I do.
  23. Ohh awesome! I've heard great things about both books but haven't read them yet :) Enjoy!
  24. Yeah I definitely do understand the benefits of a Kindle. It's great for travelling and reading books you might enjoy, but that you're not Z0MG CRAZY about. But I do think it's ridiculous how some eBooks aren't that cheap. For example, I've seen a few that are priced at $11 for hardcover and $10 for Kindle. That's just silly. But there are a lot of great Kindle eBooks deals from $0 - $6.99 or so that are awesome.
  25. I'm glad you enjoyed Bitterblue! I hope I like it too. I LOVED Graceling but didn't like Fire as much. So I'm hoping I like Bitterblue more than Fire :P
