New Signed Books! Hello My Pretties!
So I was in the UK for a few weeks and when I got back to California I had an AMAZING stack of books waiting for me: Is that not the most gorgeous thing you've ever seen? I love them all and I'm so excited to read each and every one. I'll show off just a few of them :) My friend works at a publishing company and sent me a copy of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn as a gift! From Bethany Griffin, author of Masque of the Red Death, I got a bookmark and a signed bookplate: Now here are some awesome signed books! There were a lot of author signings in California while I was in the UK. I didn't get to attend any of the events, which I'm SUPER bummed about, but I sent my amazing mom off to snag signed copies for me :D [hide=Lots of Pictures] [/hide] Also, while I was in the UK I bought a set of British Harry Potter books! They were just sitting in a charity shop and were super cheap. The set was missing The Goblet of Fire but I bought a copy separately on eBay (not in the picture).

What book are you currently reading?
I finished Of Poseidon. It's an awesome mermaid book if you're into that :P It was the first mermaid book I'd ever read actually. I enjoyed it a lot! It ended on a crazy cliffhanger so I'm dying to read book 2 (which isn't out yet) :P Now I'm reading Insurgent by Veronica Roth. If you're into dystopian books YOU HAVE TO READ THE DIVERGENT SERIES! Book #1 is Divergent and book #2 is Insurgent. These books are seriously amazing and they're the hot new thing in the YA/dystopian book world! On another note, I bought a Kindle. Part of me feels like I'm on the dark side now. I really prefer print books because I'm not just a reader - I'm a collector. I like having a huge book shelf, my first editions, my signed books, etc. You can't have any of that with a Kindle. But I've been reading a lot of e-ARCs and getting a lot of free eBooks from authors/Amazon, and I feel like a Kindle is kind of necessary at this point. I'd been using my computer and Kinde/Adobe apps to read these books but it's really starting to be a PITA. So... yeah... I've crossed over. I'll still mostly be buying print books though! :P

I finished The Immortal Rules. It was amazing! If you like vampire and virus stories, definitely pick it up! It's really fresh and interesting. Now I'm reading Of Poseidon by Anna Banks.- Forums go down everyday at set time?
Yep this is perfectly normal :) It has to do with indexing. I think MageUK said something to me about fixing this so that it still happens nightly but doesn't take as long.. maybe I imagined that though, idk :P- What book are you currently reading?
Yeah The Hunger Games is pretty great. I wasn't really crazy about the last one though.. [hide=Spoilers.. kind of]I wanted some sort of epic confrontation/battle.. but I felt like all the "battles" were won via propaganda and I thought that was pretty lame. I didn't like that they even called it "propaganda." They were literally just putting on an act for the television to gain followers. To me that was a lot less epic than going out there, giving unscripted speeches, and having actual intense battles. I definitely would have preferred that route.[/hide] I finished Starcrossed. I was pretty disappointed. You can read my review here if you want. I also got a million new books! You can check them all out here. It took me a while to pick which one I wanted to read next but I settled on The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. It's supposed to be an epic vampire story :D- College
I bought about 3,000 sheets of printer paper for my house [i live with my family, my brother's in middle school, my sister's in highschool] and we ran out completely about 3/4ths of the way into my second semester this year. You will need a printer. Well it depends what your major is tbh. My first two years of college I used <100 sheets of paper (over the whole two years). Maybe even <50. This past year I used about... 5 or 10, but it was all for printing non-uni related things. So yeah, definitely depends on your major. In some cases, it's hardly necessary. If you're doing like an actual English course or any other writing-intensive course, then it's definitely better to buy your own printer.- College
Some of them do. But it's not a huge deal. Professors are VERY lenient about book purchases in the first few weeks. Some people join the class at the last minute and don't have a chance to buy it, or they understand about shipping times, etc. But if the professors do bring up the book, you should be able to easily get it at the library, campus bookstore, or share with a fellow classmate. Also it's definitely worth getting a printer if you'll be taking classes that require a lot of printed work. Having your own printer allows you to work on your schedule and literally print at the last minute. The campus printers are usually fine but then you have to make sure to plan in advance to get your work done and make sure a printer will be available, etc. But if you're only taking like one class that requires any kind of printed work, I wouldn't bother.- Tip.It Times - 17th June 2012

Definitely stock up on food! Assuming you don't have a kitchen in the dorms, get a fridge/microwave in your room if you can. Believe me, there will be nights (or days) where you're hungry but can't be bothered to walk to the dining hall and just want some cereal/tea/hot chocolate/mac & cheese/etc. Whenever possible, DON'T BUY textbooks. Share with a friend, use the library, or as a last resort buy them used. Text books are insanely expensive. I often found that I'd buy all the textbooks "required" for the class and we wouldn't even use half of them. As Skull said, the first week/month is basically your one chance to make friends. That's when everyone is in the same boat, has little or no friends, and wants to make more. This is when the groups of friends will form, the cliques will form, the study groups will form, etc. If you want a good group of friends, you have to put yourself out there as much as possible. Go out of your way to meet with people and socialize. Join clubs, talk to people in class, get to know the people in your dorm, etc. Don't worry if you miss a few classes. I often skip about half my classes and still do fine. I'm not encouraging you to do that, but just don't freak out if you miss 1 or 2. Most lecturers put the notes online and you usually don't miss much. Missing lectures is usually okay but try not to miss the practicals/discussion groups. Those are usually harder to catch up on (and they usually take attendance :P). Yeah, they absolutely suck. I had one this year. It was always insanely dirty, people wait DAYS to wash their dishes, people steal your food/drinks from the fridge, they use your silverware/dishes without asking, etc. It was my first year with a communal kitchen and I'm avoiding this situation again as much as I can.- What book are you currently reading?
I'm reading Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini. It's okay, but I had higher hopes for it tbh :(- The Crew Wants You! - CLOSED
Wat Yeah also this. We don't care about gender and the only time we'd consider age is if we think someone is too young. Otherwise it's not taken into consideration. We'd appreciate it if you didn't make rude assumptions. There's no rude assumptions. The staff list is freely available where the information is. There's obviously a theme with tipit and the staff it picks. It isn't incidental as you've picked them. I've had enough pm's with you yourself Tripsis, as well as other staff, on tipit to know how the system operates. All I'm saying is why bother advertising when you already know what you want and if someone doesn't fit in with that why encourage them to waste their time? You're right. The information is freely available. And if you even looked at it, you'd notice that your point about "staff being mostly female" is completely wrong. The crew is comprised of mostly males (something like 15:3 males to females). Why is that? Because the gaming community in general is dominated by males. Many of our staff members are under the age of 25 or so. Why is that? Because RuneScape caters mostly to teens and young adults. Older people do play but they do not make up the majority. We have certainly had a lot of older staff members, and by older I mean 45 or 50+. As Cowman said, any 'trends' are a complete result of the statistics that make up the gaming community, since that's where we're drawing our staff members from. And the gaming community does tend to be mostly young males. And we don't even consider cliques. We don't care who's friends with who. We care about qualifications. I have never once suggested that we operate by using qualifications such as gender, age, or "cliques." So it is definitely rude for you to say otherwise. You are making assumptions. The truth is you have no idea how Tip.It operates because you've never been part of the staff. Anything you say is based on your own biased observations because you've made it clear on several occasions that you don't like how Tip.It works. But our operations have nothing to do with age, gender, or friendships. We have a fan site to run, guides to release, and databases to update. We care about people who have the time and skills to make that happen. We have to seek out people who are knowledgeable about the game, are skilled guide writers, and/or have coding qualifications that can benefit Tip.It. Those people don't just knock on our door so we need recruitment drives to seek them out. So yes, your completely baseless comments are unappreciated and are not welcome in this topic. If you don't want to apply for crew, that's fine. But there's no need to post rude and baseless accusations.- The Crew Wants You! - CLOSED

We do PM people directly when we think they're suitable. But it's more difficult than you think to find people who are interested in the position. Recruitment drives allow us to find a lot of people who WANT to be part of the crew, which is already great. From there we can review their qualifications. If someone wants to be part of the crew, applying won't be a waste of time. If they think it is a waste of time, then they don't want to be on crew that badly anyway.- 8realms officially closed.

[anchorlink=eventdetails]Click here to view the event details[/anchorlink] Fifth Age - 25th Fentuary , Year 169 ...as they searched for more artifacts, they felt the heat of the lava on their faces, the lava bubbled and churned in the crevices of the ground around them. "This is where it all happened then, Minas?" asked the Archeologist. "Yes, indeed, where many armies clashed millenia ago" Minas replied, as he picked up a shard of, what appeared to be iron on the floor. Minas closely examined the shard of iron, and began to slowly remove ash that had been whirled onto it by the nearby lava. "My Goodness!" Minas exlaimed, "This isn't ancient at all, someone was here recently!" "You might... want to look around you." the Archelologist said, in a stuttery voice. Minas looked up, slowly it became apparent to him what they were standing near, a graveyard of armour and weapons, made of iron. Minas took a few steps back and stared at the Archeologist in horror. "What does this mean?" He queried. "I don't know... I just don't understand" The Archologist hesitantly responded. "Should we return to Varrock, inform the Duke?" "No, but we should bring this iron fragment back to the museum at once, as soon as we can date when this happened, the better understanding we'll have..." Minas quickly replied. The two archologists moved south in a hurry as nearby Green dragons became aware of their nearby presence, the firery embers of the lava maze slowly fading into the horizon. Finally finished City of Bones :P I don't get as much reading done when my boyfriend is here  I really enjoyed it though. Had a few issues with the 'love triangle,' but still enjoyed the book. But I'm thinking of holding off on the rest of the series for a few weeks just because there are like 4 other books to read in the series, but I have like 20+ books outside of the series left to read and I want to get some of them done first. Thinking of starting Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini next.- A New Administrator: Randox!
