Are you going to CONTINUE renewing membership?
For now, yes. This update could be the start of something very bad, but for now, I'm not so enraged that I feel the need to cancel. The membership price isn't high enough for me to feel like I'm wasting money even if I don't play. But if we start getting more microtransactions (like actually buying armour/weapons/items/gold) then I probably will stop renewing.

Decided to pop in again
Yeah I was really sorry to hear what happened to RuneVillage :( At first it was bad for Jagex to just announce it to everyone. They should have first sent their concerns privately. But then their demand to take down images was a real killer... Anyway, I guess I'll see you at RuneFest 2012 then :) I'm in a similar boat. I'm really determined to go regardless of where it's held. The only thing that might stop me is if it's not in the UK and takes place during term time. But fingers crossed :P

The Game of Thrones TV series - Season 4
[hide=Spoilers]That's Gendry. He's Robert Baratheon's bastard son. He worked as a blacksmith's apprentice. He had to run off with Arya when they start killing all of Robert's bastard children.[/hide]

Decided to pop in again
Hey there! It's nice to see you around :) How is RuneVillage doing these days? I've popped in a few times over the last few months but just to look around. I haven't actually posted there in years. Maybe I'll see you at RuneFest 2012?

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
At the absolute very least, Jagex needs to prompt customers to enter the CC security number thing before completing the purchase :wall:

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
Lol wow. And sorry but their recovery system sucks. I know people who have recovered accounts with nowhere near all the information they should need. And I know people who have had their accounts recovered despite the fact that they used gibberish recoveries. I don't believe so.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
It's a one time purchase. You're just buying the spins you're paying for to use them one time. They do not keep showing up every day. You use them and then they're gone forever until you buy more.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
where are you looking that will buy rsgp 1$/1M? I've got about 250 if that's the case lol point: RSGP atm is .5$/M give or take I just googled 'rs gold' ive no idea if the site was good value for money compared to any of the countless other gold sellers. I see, thanks. @everybody; How do I check if a CC is linked to my account? Runescape.com > click "Get more spins" at the top > scroll down > Buy Spins > log in > scroll down > you'll see credit card details if it's linked (if so click "Manage Cards" or something and you'll have an option to remove your card)

Just curious as to where that was stated? I know that Jagex wants to expand onto other platforms but I always thought they liked the Java platform. They like that it's easily accessible to everyone. I apologize for not being able to find a direct link at the moment, but I believe I read it a while ago; they're looking into making an independent client for RS like WoW or Guild Wars (and most other MMOs). Expanding onto other platforms like consoles would also necessitate a more portable coding language, and Java in a general industry sense is quite outdated. Hm I never read about them making a client like WoW. Jagex is all about accessibility so I don't really see that happening. I know they were interested in expanding to consoles but that was expanding rather than replacing (so the Java game would still exist). And they didn't end up going through with it because everyone they talked to wanted it to be exclusive to their console or something but Jagex wanted it available across all consoles. Furthermore, Jagex's newer games are also using the same Java platform so it doesn't seem like that's something they're trying to get away from. Transformers Universe (to be released later this year) will use the Java platform and Stellar Dawn was going to use it before it was "paused."

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
You'd actually be surprised. Sure maybe not many people will blow $2000 all at once, but over a few months... a lot more will than you might expect. Look at Zynga and Neopets. People spend thousands of dollars buying virtual items on those sites.. and they're stupid things like cosmetic clothing. When I played several years ago, loads of people had spent over $500. And what's even worse, on RuneScape credit card details are stored. So say you have a 13 year old kid. His parents are using their credit card to pay for his membership. He can buy a thousand dollars worth of spins without asking his parents because his credit card details are already fully typed in. Just curious as to where that was stated? I know that Jagex wants to expand onto other platforms but I always thought they liked the Java platform. They like that it's easily accessible to everyone.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
It has NOT been fixed. [hide][/hide] Pressing the Buy Spins button in game takes you to a page asking you to select your country, then you're taken directly to that page with it looking like that. You press the Purchase button and that's it, you've just bought extra spins. No screen asking you to confirm or anything. You need no details to do this, it doesn't even ask you for your password again or your security code on the card. So if your account gets hacked (or even if you leave it logged in at a friends house or whatever) they can press the buy spins button in game and then they're able to buy as many as they want with no further details. I just tested it myself. You can click on "Manage Saved Cards" on that same page below your credit card details. You can then remove your credit card. I did that, logged back in, tried it again, and my card details were no longer there. Yup, but how many people are going to do that? Not too many I imagine. So it's still a huge issue and needs fixing. Yep I agree, it's still a big issue. :P

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
Suddenly it makes sense. Jagex mysteriously removed their status on Facebook linking to that microtransactions article saying "Jagex resists temptations to use microtransactions!" and the article was mysteriously edited. I thought nothing of it at the time but clearly it's because microtransactions were just an update away  The JMods' justifications are laughable. Just because you can win 50gp DOES NOT mean you're "always winning." If your spins are free, yes, I can see the logic in that. But if you're PURCHASING spins, you're doing that not so you can win 50 gp. You're doing it so you can have a chance at winning one of the rare items or at least XP lamps. If you don't win those it is a loss because those are the only items actually worth having. If you spend $20 on spins and don't get enough items of worth, that money and those spins were wasted. I'll use LOTRO as an example. In crafting you can either make a regular item or have a "critical success" and make an item worth a lot of money. The rub is that you have to use an expensive ingredient in order to make these items (regardless of the critical success or not). So let's say you buy 20 of these expensive items from their LOTRO Store. None of them crit. You can't argue that you "aren't gambling" because you always win that shit worthless non-crit item. The whole reason you crafted in the first place was to get the critical success item. Instead you walk off with worthless consolation 'prize.' Same goes for RS. We're not spinning so we can win cabbages and 50 GP. If you pay for spins and that's all you get, you lost. I was also going to complain massively about the credit card details being saved but it looks as though that might have been fixed? But if you still have to manually remove your card details that's a huge issue.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
I believe that was an April Fools joke :P

Today...
IIRC, if someone rear ends you it's ALWAYS their fault. Something about how "if you're following the legal requirements for staying x car lengths behind, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to stop in time." It doesn't matter how shitty the circumstances are. Like once my sister was at a red light behind an SUV. They were in the right-hand turn lane. All the lights (right and straight) went green so they started moving. In the middle of the intersection, the forward light went red so the woman in front of my sister assumed the right hand turn lane went red as well but it didn't. So the woman slammed on her breaks so my sister rear ended her. No reason to stop + little warning + rain on the road + were just stopped so not as much space between cars as normal... So the woman slammed on her breaks for no reason in the middle of an intersection but it was still legally my sister's fault since she was behind her.

Stuff you could NEVER get into
What :| Exactly. I'm a fan of most other USA series and it seems to have everything I like: plots, classy art thieves, intrigue... I'm guessing I'd have to watch it from the beginning to be able to get into it though. Also, the Assassin's Creed series. It's seriously one of my favourite shows :| It's so witty and like.. epic the way Neal just pwns. Definitely give it a try from the beginning :P I might agree with you on the Assassin's Creed thing. I'll admit, I haven't played the game properly. I played through an hour long tutorial/demo thing offered in the PS store and... idk. I didn't like it. I think maybe they just threw too many different things at me at once. And it's one of those games where it's like "Okay we're giving you an intro now." I prefer games where they start you off with the basics but throw you straight into pwning people/monsters/whatever. Then you slowly learn new skills and abilities over time so it's not overwhelming at first.

hello.
If you're going to make a thread here, please actually introduce yourself to the community ;) Asking for friends without telling us anything about yourself probably won't get you very far. Make an effort to speak to people and be friendly, but not overly clingy. You'll have some new friends in no time.

Stuff you could NEVER get into
What :| Let's see.. I could never get into: Sports. I used to play a bit of football (soccer), but just for fun when I was 13 and younger. I can't get into sports seriously though. I don't like playing competitively and I don't like watching them. There are a few extremely popular TV shows I just can't click with. Like The Office. I'll admit, my boyfriend has showed me a few clips that were funny, but I have yet been able to sit down and watch/enjoy an episode. A few were playing on an airplane once so I gave them a try and like... it just felt like a waste of time. I didn't enjoy it. I felt like I was watching really long and pointless YouTube videos. The 1 minute clips from my boyfriend were amusing, but I wouldn't want to watch all the non-amusing stuff in between. Partying/clubbing. I've tried it.. I just don't like it. I have to really force myself to try to have a good time. And then it doesn't work. I can put on a fake smile and act like I'm having fun but I'm just not.

Something something something
I like them :D I've always admired this kind of cute cartoony style. I just can't seem to do it. My hand won't do anything but semi-realism. I look forward to seeing more!

First/Limited Edition and Signed Books!
I've always LOVED books. But more than that, I love to own and collect books. As the years go by, I'm getting more and more interested in collecting signed/first edition books. I was having a little fun indexing some of my collection and thought I'd post here :P A Game of Thrones - Advanced Reading Copy Advanced reading copies are uncorrected proofs that are printed and privately released before the final book is published. They are for promotional purposes and often get sent to bookstores/newspapers/journalists/bloggers/etc. so the books can be reviewed and promoted by the time the final book is released. These are not intended to be sold and as such they're usually very scarce in numbers and usually have a very different style/layout/cover than the final published book, which makes them fun to collect :) They also usually contain a few extra pages (or notes on the back) with interesting information about the promotional plans and publishing plans (such as how many books they intend to publish in the first printing, etc.). [hide=Photo][/hide] It's actually a funny story how I came across this book. I went to buy a used copy of A Game of Thrones on Amazon.com. I clicked on the listing for the latest hardback edition (latest being about a year and a half ago) and bought a used one for $12. Instead, I received this edition, which was valued at about $100 at the time. One recently went for almost $500 on eBay :) I did go see George R.R. Martin do a speaking/signing after I bought this book, but I didn't get this particular one signed (I did get A Dance with Dragons signed though!). Still kicking myself for that. I'll be trying to go to another one of his signings until I can get this signed! A Clash of Kings - Advanced Reading Copy [Photo coming soon] After getting excited about the Game of Thrones ARC, I decided to scour eBay for another. That's how I came to get this one :) It's at my house in California though so I'll upload a photo next week when I fly back. A Storm of Swords - First Edition (US) [hide=Images] The number line indicates that it is the first printing (since the lowest number is "1").[/hide] A Feast For Crows - First Edition (UK), Signed [hide=Images] [/hide] A Dance With Dragons - First Edition, Signed [hide=Images] See "First Edition" text and number line indicating that it is the first printing.[/hide] The Lord of the Rings - 50th Anniversary Edition Not my photo. I'll have to upload my own next week. But it shows the exact edition that I have. [hide=Image][/hide] Northern Lights - Signed Limited/Numbered Edition 3000 copies were made of this limited edition of Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. Each copy has been signed by the author. [Photo coming soon] The Subtle Knife - Advanced Reading Copy This is an uncorrected proof for the second book in the His Dark Materials series. I only just ordered this book but it hasn't been delivered yet, so for now I'll post a photo I found online of the cover :) [hide=Image][/hide] The Subtle Knife - First Edition (UK), 1st or 2nd Impression Now this one is very interesting.. and that's actually one of the reasons why I bought it  There was a misprint on the number line, which makes it impossible to be sure whether it is a first impression (printing) or second. The number line reads: Normally how it works is that number lines start at 1 and go up to 10. For each new printing, the first number is removed. So a first impression would be: [hide=See Note]These numbers can be displayed in a variety of orders.. left to right (as shown above), right to left, or outside to inside (2 4 6 8 10 9 7 5 3 1).[/hide] Then for the second impression you would take away the 1 so it would be: Long story short - the lowest number shows you what print cycle number it is. But going back to this particular book, you'll notice that the number order is 1 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. So it starts with 1 but there is no 2 whatsoever. So there is some debate as to whether or not this is the first impression or the second impression. Funky stuff. Either way, it's still pretty difficult to find earlier printings of Northern Lights and The Subtle Knife (UK editions), so I'm happy to have it :) Plus I find misprints to be kind of cool! As I said, that's one of the reasons why I specifically bought this book! The book is currently sitting at my boyfriend's house, so once again, this isn't my photo. But it is a photo of the same edition. [hide=Image][/hide] The Art of God of War 3 - Limited Folio Edition Okay it's probably silly of me to include this but I'm just so darn proud of it :P The reason it's silly for me to include it is because these editions haven't even sold out yet. Only 300 copies were made but they're still for sale. I guess that makes them less valuable. But they still have a really high price tag and it's an amazingly gorgeous book. So there you go. This thing is like a bible. [hide=Images] [/hide] More Coming Soon! I have a lot more books at my house in California to sort though. I'm in the processing of indexing all my first editions and signed books so I'll definitely have a lot to add to this list. I just included the ones that I have with me in the UK, had photos of, or were more recently purchased.
