If you liked DOGVILLE, go for MANDERLAY which is the second part out of Trier's America trilogy. It has got different actors (Bryce Dallas Howard as Grace/ Willem Dafoe as Grace' father). Same set-up visually. And of course there are similarities thematically. If you liked this one as well you should of course wait till he releases the third and of course final part of the trilogy: WASINGTON (no, that isn't a typo), but as it still takes some waiting you might want to see some of his earlier work. In the final years of the 80's he started on a Europe trilogy consisting of the movies Forbrydelsens element (The Element of Crime), Epidemic and Europe. The trilogie is basically done just like you're seeing the America trilogie now, but it has got other visuals and theme. But everytime you have those same visuals and themes that set the mood for the trilogie. If you're interested you might want to check out some articles and movies about Dogme '95 which has been a very influential movie 'guilde' halfway trough the ninetees. It has been a huge influence on modern arthouse movies. Because it had strict rules that were suposed to lead the 'purification' (is that a word?:P) of modern cinema. I haven't seen much movies from it (only the more mainstream ones Festen and Idioterne). And work just called for an emergeny (on my freaking day off) so I'm going to work now and get back you in an hour or two/three. :)
