  1. Unfortunately this is too true. Probably a solid 50% or more of the clan world has botted stats on their account, or has multiple botted accounts. In addition, due to the nature of many clans requiring events that can last incredibly long times, you tend to get a lot of the burnt-out types in it, which leads to a fairly immature community at times. That said, my time in PvP clans were probably some of the best I've ever had in RS. Even with all the bad things/people involved in it, it's incredibly fun and the camaraderie of clan members is something everyone should experience.
  2. Trust trading isn't against TIF or Jagex rules. Also, they are actually recruiting, just with a hint of advertisement mixed in. Definitely not in the wrong section.
  3. 48-50k mage xp/hr afking with treus darth instead of bouncer, so just a hair above. The real test will be while not-afking it though. Testing that soon.
  4. I'm a trial member of Oblivion pvm, you can find the thread on the RSOF, I'd link it but I'm in a bit of a rush atm. You could apply as a trial member too, they mostly bandos and sara.
  5. It's in the works... We'll see how it turns out.
  6. And so a round of insightful, but disappointing testing ended with a 3 man group. With ice barrage my xp/hr at 84 magic was ~73k, switching to smoke lowered that to 64k. I feel that adding over a duo with non-optimal monsters does more damage then it helps - next test is optimal monsters, but I wouldn't expect that test to happen for a week or so.
  7. Added ya, I'll pm you if I see you online.
  8. Yeah, I'll be updated the main post and *maybe* adding pictures and such too. In the meanwhile, I still need to do a 3 and 4 person test to get an idea about possible xp rates. I tried a 4 man today, but we had black demons so the xp/hr was like 60k, which was pathetic. I also ran into a guy who required the "What Lies Below" quest for King Roald, which gave the line up of King Roald, Bouncer, Tree Spirit, Count Draynor, and Khazard General, which gave me ~70k xp/hr solo non-afk, which is a bit higher than with kendal. I'm curious about if there's another easily accessable 1-space boss monster that a booster could easily unlock for even greater xp. Gonna have to look into it at some point.
  9. Basically you need to invite the booster, instead of the normal way where the booster invites you. All runes except soul runes are provided for free, but you can only pick up a certain amount at a time (around 150 ice barrage casts at once). I was considering not ice barraging, but with free runes the best spell you can cast is smoke barrage, wasn't sure how the xp would suffer. That'll be for round 2 of testing. By the way, if anyone wants to try this out with me, feel free to pm S p a ins, I'd be happy to do it. Same goes if anyone needs Sara partners, heh. EDIT: Tested out monk robes+god cloak vs mage cape and ahrims, and I ended up getting 66k xp/hr versus the 60k/hr with ahrims, which I'll attribute to margin of error. But it appears monk robes are fine to train with, I had a +51 mage bonus and hit basically the same. Not sure if replacing other items with prayer items will work too, but I don't have any and don't feel like testing. Also, with that set up I used ~2 1/3 ppots per overload versus 3. And I also tested out smoke barrage solo - I ended up with virtually the same xp/hr (~58k/hr, 300k points an hour, which I attribute to randomness of spawns), so I don't think it honestly matters too much solo. I do think that in duos or trios it could be significant, however. I'll test it next time I duo. And for the last test of the day (finally), doing nothing more than picking up runes and re-potting (ie, as afk as you can get) I got ~48k mage xp/hr and 283k nmz points/hr. Another good thing to note is that things take a very long time to despawn in the NMZ after you drop em. It's not infinite, but it's definitely over 10 minutes.
  10. So, I just confirmed inviting the booster will give you runes and keep the melee only monsters... So I got ~60k mage xp/hr, 40k hp xp/hr and 330k NMZ points/hr. So it's a little less than 1/2 the xp/hr of bursting monkey skeletons (I was getting 140k mage xp/hr and ~90k hp xp/hr there). However, it's totally free. Next I'm going to try getting 2 people in there to see if the xp/hr increases at all with more monsters. My monsters for the test were bouncer, khazard warlord, vampire, kendal and tree spirit btw. Also, I'll update the main post soon with the new information I have, and editing some stuff I changed my views on (ie, black demons are actually really good for dharoking, not so much whip/ss/dscim) And in regards to the D2h spec - I think it could be *okay* but you need monsters lined up pretty niceless for you to get the full effect - it's definitely good in some situations, but I think the majority of the time gmaul is gonna be the way to go. EDIT: I tried a duo, and when my partner wasnt afking and helping organize creeps into place, I was getting fairly consistant 85k/hr. When he went afk, it dropped to like 78k xp/hr which is still higher than it was solo. 52k hp xp/hr puts me at around 130k overall xp/hr. Still worse than normal bursting, but again, free. I also got ~450k nmz points/hr duo, but that was partially becuase I was ice barraging and he was ice bursting so I got the majority of the kills. He still ended up with 190k nmz points though, so it seems if we were even stats it'd be around the same amount of nmz points/hr as solo. Also good to know is that in my gear (posted below) I used ~3 doses of ppot per dose of overload, using only melee prayer. My gear for the tests: Farseer helm Ahrim Top Ahrim Skirt Ancient Staff Zam Book Mage Cape Fury Infinity boots Barrows Gloves Zerker ring (since I don't own a seers and have nothing better to use) And just to tack on for further reference for myself, my friend was in monk robes with 66/67 magic and was getting 65k xp/hr not afk, 48k when afking. and one more thing, never ever ever get a black demon. I think bouncer/vamp/khazard/kendal/tree spirit is the best that you'll commonly find. I did a duo with black demon for probably 20 minutes, and I got 58k mage xp/hr, which is even worse than I got solo.
  11. Moar drops Bank from last week http://imgur.com/a/60qYf 1700 total Now I'm going to keep working on range/mage and gwd, then eventually I'll start pking once again.
  12. Yeah, I tried gmaul and it really is probably the best option. I also learned if you invite the booster, you'll get free runes and the melee-only monsters. I have yet to confirm this for myself, but that's what I heard.
  13. happy bday pasta cheif

  14. First hilt drop of 07 :D Too bad GWD prices crashed so hard compared to real 07, gonna be around 10-10.5M for a 4-man split versus the like 30M it woulda been a week post-GWD in 2007. Still, can't complain about a hilt drop, especially since we got an SS earlier in the trip too, so that's a solid 12-13M :D

I stopped staking after that and started goofing around on S p a, not doing much, but I did make a fair chunk of change pre-gwd by doing random stuff. I honestly don't remember what I did in this part leading up to GWD, which means it probably wasn't too interesting. Though I did attempt fight caves twice and died twice :( Here's my bank pic 2 weeks ago? Right as GWD was released. Note that it was worth 102.5M at the time, but fell about 5-10m when a bunch of potions and stuff crashed.http://imgur.com/a/hMD2E So there's that, not too bad I suppose. Since then I've been doing a fair bit of GWD, and I also bought a bunch of chins (25.5k @ 650 each) and I bought 13K ice burst casts to use up. So far I've got 80 range from 72 and 80 mage from 78, but nothing too special. I have probably 10-11k ice burst casts left and 20k red chins left to use up eventually. Anyway, I was going to do an updated bank pic, but I got a 3-man saradomin sword split and a 4-man saradomin hilt split today, so it'd be about 12-13m off :D So instead enjoy these lewt pictures from the past week of GWD. ^ Almost tele'd out and missed that last one, heh.
  16. u gotta come back to #tip-it sometime

  17. Nope, gotta have a monster that requires magic to defeat it.
  18. A lot of it (for me) is the simplicity and the mindset of the players at the time. There was nothing overtly complex about RS in the 05-07, and the mindset of players was a bit more relaxed - not everything was done for the sake of efficiency and maxing out. Heck, I'd bet that 99% of players had no real expectation of ever maxing, especially pre-skillcapes.
  19. So I had an idea in regards to mage boosting - a normal booster account, except with Family Crest also done. Now, get 3 people+booster account in the game, then have the booster leave. Now there's a rune spawn, so everyone can barrage for free, however, you'll have do deal with Chronozan spawns. It won't take any damage, but I don't think it should do any damage to you, and if it did, you could just use blood spells. You would use all the damage powerups to kill multiples of it when there get to be too many. It won't be super fast xp, but it'll be good enough, and probably free, assuming you can make up for prayer potion costs. It's just inconvenient to make a booster account with Family Crest done, and get 3 more people to do it with you.
  20. I honestly have no clue how to maximize xp for maging - you only get free runes if you get dagganoth mother/chronozan (sp?) I believe, so normaly boosting accounts won't get you "free" xp. Since there are no boosters with those quests, you'd need to make your own and boost your friends (since obviously you can't boost yourself wink wink) and deal with annoying dagganoth mother/chronozan spawns, which both require normal spellbook. I'm sure there's a relatively good way to do it, but I'm not sure what it is. However, getting a lot of friends and barraging the melee only monsters could be a slightly cheaper alternative to bursting/barraging monkey zombies, since you can spend points on items to make up for ppots. It'd be similar to when people bursted mummies in the CT back in 08.
  21. EDIT: This main post is still okay for getting a basic gist of how to NMZ, but I have a lot of hard data in the comments that is useful too. This guide will be overhauled once I get the time for it. So, if you play OSRS, you've probably heard by now about the quick, 100% afk xp you can get in the Nightmare Zone (NMZ), but you might not know how to take advantage of it. Well, here's a quick, basic guide on how to do so. Set-up: There's two ways to go about the set-up, dharoking or whip/scimming Dharok's set up: Full DH (duh) Zerker i>Zerker>Warrior i> Warrior > any Fury>Glory>God stole>other Barrows gloves/best you can get>combat brace Rune Boots=climber boots Fire cape>trimmed skill cape> skill cape/obby> legends Other set up: Dscim/whip>other weapons Prossy top>monk robe Prossy bot>=monk robe Zerker i>Zerker>Warrior i> Warrior > any Fury>Glory>God stole>other Barrows gloves/best you can get>combat brace Rune Boots=climber boots Fire cape>trimmed skill cape> skill cape/obby> legends Rune defender> DFS > others Inventory: Dharoks inventory: Rock cake DDS (optional) Coins (for coffer and paying booster) Holy Wrench (optional) (can be replaced with extra prayer potion) 6x Overload (4) (obtained by paying 1.5k NMZ points/dose, can only be used in the minigame) 19 Prayer potions (4) Other inventory: DDS Coins (for coffer and paying booster) Holy Wrench (optional) (can be replaced with extra prayer potion) 7x Overload (4) (obtained by paying 1.5k NMZ points/dose, can only be used in the minigame) 19 Prayer potions (4) What is boosting? Once you get to the NMZ, you'll want to look for melee-only boosters. What are these? They are accounts with only specific quests done that will create a party and invite you to it, enabling only melee bosses, making for easy training. However, most of these accounts will charge between 20-40k per rumble, so be prepared to pay up before you enter. This is a trust trade, and while I've never been scammed, I'm sure there are a few untrustworthy people out there, so if you're worried, look for folks who have a lot of people trading them first. Quests needed for boosting: Boosters tend to have the following quests done, and will require you to complete them as well: - Vampire Slayer - Mountain Daughter - Lost City - Gnome Stronghold - Fight Arena Some may have more done, including the rare account that is designed to boost the Dream Mentor bosses, but these are rare, so just the above quests will be fine. Strategy: Method 1: AFKing For this, all you need to do is drink a dose of overload, turn on protect from melee, use up your special attacks if you brought a spec weapon, and then proceed to come back every 4 minutes or so to top off prayer/re-overload. Very simple stuff. If dharoking, use your rock cake after you overload to drop yourself down to 1HP. Method 2: Not 100% AFKing You'll basically be following the above plan, but with some slight modifications. If you notice yourself gaining HP while dharoking, just rock cake back to your minimum HP. Another thing you will notice are the randomly spawning power-ups, of which there are 4 kinds: zapper, ultimate force, power surge, and recurrent damage. Zapper works as an AoE attack, doing low damage to every NPC in range. Ultimate force will instantly kill every NPC on the field, however no points will be gained. Power surge will instantly replenish your special attack, and continue to replenish it for a short period of time. Recurrent damage will do an extra 75% damage on each hit, but you won't get xp for it. If your goal is solely XP, you will mostly be using power surge, and largely ignoring the other power ups. Power surge is pretty obvious, you'll take out your spec weapon and continually spec until it runs out, leaving you with some great XP gains for a short period. The others, however, don't get you much of an xp boost except in some specific circumstances. When you're fighting, assuming you're using the quests/bosses outlined above, the hardest boss to kill will be the black demon. If you end up with 3 or 4 black demons, you will then want to use the other power ups in an effort to kill them faster and get more vampires/Kendals for better xp. If you want points in addition to XP though, you can use all the power-ups freely, except for ultimate force, which you will only use when there are 3 or 4 live black demons. You're going to end up fighting in this arena for hours with these supplies, but eventually you'll run out of prayer potions, die, and leave with 600k+ points. After that, you just find another booster and repeat. Feel free to spend points on various supplies, as normally you can make back your money spent depending on prices, which I'd suggest checking on Zybez before you buy a lot of one item over another. You can also imbue various items, like DK rings, crystal bow/shields, and the black mask. The minigame is pretty enjoyable, and very, very afk friendly, perfect for working on projects, doing homework, playing GTA:O, whatever. I know this guide isn't the best, but I figured if anyone was wondering about the NMZ, this should help. If you have any questions/comments, post em here and I'll get back to you.
  22. I'm getting some dumb luck on this account in regards to ultra-rare untradables.... First ever basilisk task I got a head, and now on maybe my 4-6th lesser task, champ scroll. At this rate, I'm going to be one of the first people to get the God Wars pets if they pass the poll.
  23. Some very solid loot there, glad to see clans are still sorta active.
  24. congrats on both those, I've been considering dropping some GP into con solely becuase it's super easy to get a low rank in it. Just pricy :(
