Schools confiscating students' property
The teacher is to be blamed for that, definately. Taking a phone for being distracting is one acceptable thing, but not taking rightful measures in safeweguarding it is not. We take overly excessive care for real criminals, but little for students? Come now... Schools aren't responsible for the theft of student's items anyways. If she didn't wanted it taken up or stolen, she should've left it at home. That is like the police towing your car away because you parked five minutes overtime, then someone steals it. The police was not to blame because you, doidaresayit, broke the rules?!

Your phone: is it your property?
I see them as a couple of steps away from a mini-laptop. They have internet access, hold information, and can be installed with certain software (apps). If the keypad was bigger, had a operating system (iTouch has these?), and allowed more software to be installed (through downloading) then it would be a computer...with phone access, but mobile. I can certainly see that accomplishing lots of useful stuff. For instance, truckers, who depend of communication between them and their dispatchers, maps for directions, and basic contact to home, a small mobile computer better than a cell phone can be all of these things...in one. Beats carrying around a laptop that can't fit in your pocket when unloading or with ease on and off truck stops. And you can't stop very useful things being used as procrastinators by some. Blame the attitude, not the device. And even then, you can't do anything about the attitude so stop complaining about anything. EDIT: My last paragraph reminded me of Prohibition. People hated certain drinker's attitudes, so they banned all of liquor. Those who didn't abuse couldn't drink it anymore. Also, it had a deeper issue in which why there was so many drunks then than now. It was social-economic standings, where nowadays liquor is legal but not overboard. Why? We're fairly content with our lives to have to resort getting drunk every night.

Real life help & advice
Or just buy some good ant posion spray or whatever they're called. My room used to have a big ant problem about seven months back. Put some spray along the wall-floor of my room and of the house. Left sugary treats on the table for days at a time. No ant ever came back.

That last post reminded me of the Driod commerical. "When there's no limit to what Droid gets, there's no limit to what Droid does A cell phone just like a regular phone, a car, trains, airplanes, computers, paper, ink, ships, etc, was at first used for a single use. It has evolved to hold multiple uses. Computers were used to count up numbers and conduct mathematical formulas. Now we play video games on it. Quite a transformation, no? I bet the guys in IMB back in the day were mighty pissed when somebody added games on their "businessman's computer".

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
You have to admit there's something to it. A series had to put up with violent threats in the name of religion. So... It makes sense to get many more people to do the same thing that caused the threats, on a wider scale, with the intent of offending people. Yes, yes, a perfectly logical response. There is something to it. This isn't it. Don't get offended over a fairy tale then.

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
Which is something I admire in a person. However, if anyone's at fault here it should be Comedy Central. I understand the degree which respect comes into play such as putting pictures of a homosexual Jesus in front of a Catholic church or drawing Mohammad in a mosque. Though if something was to be played on Comedy Central, as the name would indicate, it would be in a joking and parody like manner, right? So why Comedy Central censored Muhammad is beyond my explanation, but because of that it started this "Draw Muhammad Day". So if Comedy Central wasn't so scared on publishing it's show's needs and some fundamentalists weren't so self-centered, this event wouldn't of happened for the moderate followers of the Islamic faith.

Your phone: is it your property?
Remember that a couple hundred years ago, food was scarce. I'm pretty sure you would agree if you were in such a position, you would cut down a whole forest for the Baron so you can get some meals. We live in a time where the basic necessities are already provided. Why is this so? Technology. In the future, maybe, cell phones could be our communication tool with job offers, business across oceans, space communication, who knows really. The internal combustion engine at first was used to power a horseless wagon. "Oh those damn rich folks and their loud machines destroying the way of the horse." Trains, planes, boats, and trucks carry goods across the world in a flash. Don't tell me this is something you want to see gone away because of some trees getting knocked down or the air being a bit filthy. Humanity has endured worse before and we survived. Lets use some hypothetical numbers: Year: [% of hungry] [% of fed] 1600: [90] [10] 1700: [70] [30] 1800: [60] [40] 1900: [50] [50] 2000: [40] [60] Wanna eat or wanna starve? Of course there are downsides. But the quality of life for the average human, across ANY country, has increased A LOT this last two centuries. Sure, some people did die to our inventions. It is sad and horrible. But countless more would of died to disease and hunger. It's all a world-wide "team effort" pushing Team Humanity into the best possible state it can achieve. I'm not saying we're done, we're still far away, issues like pollution and Global Warming should be fixed, I'm not saying they shouldn't, but if we never had these inventions we would be living on a farm, working from dawn to dusk, no chance of every advancing in society, for the rest of our lives. Now don't lie and say you don't like the position where you are, because there are people worse off than you, and the possibility of being much worse. For the rest of your post, I think you're thinking too much about this. Again, I bring history to help explain: coal miners in the 1800s. Went in holes with their picks and shovels and inhaled so much bad air by today's standards would be worse than Global Warming x50,000. Some died, sure, but many survived maybe with some lung cancer or some other sort of illness, BUT, those who survived averagely lived for a decent length of time. It wasn't happy time but it was time. Nowadays, where we don't even have the closest danger they had, live twice as long probably, how can we have the nerve on saying something simple is so dangerous. Man up, the world is tough, but thanks to technology its not as tough as before.

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
The problem is that it's offensive to the moderate Muslims as well as the extremists. You know what? If they are going to get offended by other people from other religions drawing their prophet then thats their fault. If they were actually a strong, peaceful religion then they would not care what others do or say about their religion because they would just let "god" take care of it and not them. No, it isn't their fault at all, sorry. That's not what any other religion would do, why should they? Sure, extremists murdering over it is [cabbage] and way out of line but the moderates have every right to be upset, just as members of any other religion do. Sure they have the right to be upset. I'm upset by the drug culture our society has, but what the [bleep] am I gonna do about it? I can't do much about it because I have to realize if they want to smoke pot or draw homosexual Jesus, I have to let them exercise their free rights. You have the right to express. You have the right to ignore.

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
Well that's all good. Truthfully I don't care much about religion and what you do with it. But when people come and cry for theirs to be sheltered and get special treatment then we got some problems because where the hell's my Soraism National Holiday? You also bring a good point Saru; Christianity and Americans can be criticized beyond hell but if I or you say something stereotypical against a Muslim or a European we're racist bigot fat men. A better example would be "Draw Jesus sleeping with a man". That would really upset some people. I would laugh.

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
But that's the thing, religion is nothing special. No matter how the hell you look at it, it's just a overgrown, overzealous fanclub of Mohammad and his followers or Jesus and his disciples, or whatever. It just the same stuff as a Star Wars convention, but maybe more problematic sense they actually believe in it. This is why I absolutely love Pastafarianism. Just about anything can be a "religion" so how the hell can we give certain "ideas" privileges and not give all of them those same privileges? My Soraism and the God Riku should be treated the same as Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, whatever. Or, it should be considered a stupid idea because it's pointless to believe in Sora, Riku, Donald and Goofy but that would mean Christianity and Islam would be...stupid too. And that must be awfully horrible.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Oh damn I thought I was the only one. What also pisses me off about the killer/kidnapper never has a "normal" reason to do what he does. It's never "He stole my money." "She cheated on me." "I wanted his car." it's almost always "I was abused somehow when I was a kid and now I want to vent my anger through younger models of myself." God damn, that just irks me.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
My friend and I were playing split screen today again. I settled with the RPD and him the Tar-21 (both of us level 17...we started yesterday). Pretty OP guns if we're wielding them. It was a uphill battle every single match. Great fun though.

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
But that's the very thing now isn't it? The reason why we can do it here and not over there? The freedom, perhaps? Plus, Nardil's point is too strong to ignore: "It's clearly wrong for people to get murdered over drawing something". It's absolutely true now isn't it? And a better show of respect is Muslims who are against that to not watch it. They should respect the ideas and freedoms of other people. But what about the Muslims who aren't doing anything wrong? It's still offensive to them. Muhammad isn't supposed to be drawn because they don't want him to be seen in a glorious (or derogatory) way. Even if you do have the freedom to do this you're no better than the WBC for using your freedoms to spout hate. You're right. I'm so blind. But we have reached a problem. You see, I follow the glorious Soraism and you have one of my Gods, Riku, plastered all over your profile. It is in my religion that you must not draw or show Riku as he is, for it is unholy and disrespectful to him, his follows, and the faith. Please remove those pictures of Great Riku off your signature and avatar. So what makes Muhammad, Jesus, Riku, Nadril, or Pollock any different?

Your phone: is it your property?
I didn't think this would reach three pages...much less seven. Okay, g00d, you seem to hold a very traditional down-to-earth view on life, reflecting the past. So let me tell you the reason for the advancement of human history throughout 5000+ years: the gaining of power. Political power, economic power, social power, any sort of power that lets you control something (a kingdom, your company, your food choices, a great influence over your friends, head of the family, whatever). That was the effort of the common human through history and we're still fighting for it now. With cell phones, we can gain so much power. Access to all your employees, staying on top of your friend's situation, publishing a video on YouTube with 5 million views. Where as 200 years ago, living on a farm... you hardly had any friends, you had no chance at opening a business, you were stuck wherever you were and disconnected from society. Disconnected from your power. Because power comes through social interaction, and if you cut that, well, you lack a lot of potential power. The simple question I want to ask you, is, do you really think we should go against the countless hundreds of millions of people who have fought and work for this opportunity of power by denying cell phone, technology, and going backwards in time? Humanity will not advance with technology and with cell phones in particular, it lets us be free from power restrictions, commonly known as, time and space.

I'm surprised kids in your school know internet "lingo". If I said "You all lost the game!" in my school, they'll all look at me like, like this: Only in TIF and with some friends can I be internetsy.

Even in High school some people might beat you up for wearing a skirt. Solution: wear skirts in your house, by yourself. Pants to school. Solution number two is go transsexual. But I don't know if the cons outweigh the skirt for you...

Your phone: is it your property?
You're arguing against the extremism of cell phones. At people who are literally glued to their phones. We get that, I don't like them neither. But you SHOULDN'T confuse ANY type of phone use as an addiction. You're being terribly closed minded and off-track because you can't tell the difference.
