  1. Thanks for the links Venomai, downloading Artweaver right now. On your latest, I think the the cloud would be helped if you deepened the shadows and pusshed the values of them and really give them some more dimension. Just IMO.
  2. I wish I had a program that alloud me to paint like that. Do you know of any good free ones?
  3. A description of your knight, what he does, what order he belongs to, anytrhing quirky about him, that kinda stuff. Be as much or little detailed as you want, but there must be one.
  4. Guys, flaming is bad. Just because other people (myself included) have done it without reprimand because few like the idea, doesn't mean it suddenly becomes ok. The best way to negate a post if you really dislike the idea is to simply not post. Anyways, these are much better than buddy kits, at least an attempt at anatomy is there. They look nice all except for the shading, which is pretty one dimensional and faded.
  5. A beginner who actualy starts small and understand the concept of learning to do small detailed areas before he does huge ones? Its a miracle! A good free program that I swear by is called Graphics Gale, google it. On your pieces, its encouraging to see some pretty good looking stuff, but one tip: Don't pillowshade. Pillowshading: Using dark colors on the outside of anobject, you gradualys gradient towards the middle where the lighter colors are. Very unprofessional, and in my opinion, bad looking. Try to feel out the shape of an object and get a grip on the lightsource before you shade something. I don't want to talk about all the techniques in pixelart here, so maybe a referal to a website that will explain better than I can will do: http://www.spriteart.com I smell promise! :)
  6. Glad I got some replies! Venomai: Whew, thanks. Thats the kinda list I wanted, but didn't have the brain function to do at midnight. Deadline? Hmm. A week? Sounds about right, I don't want this to stretch too long, but till have a good amount of time. I'll be happy to see your piece! Misterxman: Way to pass the prize bucket to me /grumble. Maybe I could do that. A nice avatar for the winner. I dunno, how many people would find that incentive? Hope you finsih in time if its going to take you a week, deadline is this sunday night. Remoteman: Heh, I probably wouldnt win either way with the likes of Venomai entering. But, that doesn't mean I'm not going to submit something! It just wont be in the running. I'm glad to see some enthusiasm for the competition. :)
  7. Design Challenge. Topic: Knight. This competition is open for all to join and submit. The gist of it is that you take the subject (in this case, a Knight) and make it your own by rendering it in any media (pixel art, traditional, digipaint, vector, what have you). The idea is to stray from the generic and put your own spin on the topic, but still keep it recognizable. Goal: Create a distinct and creative character concept, Knight. Rules: One entry per person Must have been hand made by you alone. No abstracts with renders or anything like that. Must be a Knight. Explain your character in some sort of short bio. A sentence or two will suffice, but longer ones are accepted. Posting WIPS is ok if you want, but keep in mind that blatant plaguerism based on any WIPS will not be tolerated. Feel free to give me imput on this post, with extra rules that should be implemented or more discrpition. A source to get some juices flowing: Knights and Armor Further sources that you could provide are appreciated. Thus far, I don't know whether or not any prizes will be distributed. Go bug Misterxman to give out custom titles or something. Or extra 1k posto[bleep], Everyone have fun and get drawin'!
  8. Yep. Basicaly, its a piece of junk. I'm glad someone actualy gave me a crit though! Hopefully you stick around and crits something that I've not totaly given up on. Thanks!
  9. Did you make the art?
  10. Titles would be awesome, right under your name. It'd be great if you could start a contest soon.
  11. I lost my H3 disk (tears) so now I'm playing H2 till I can get 5.
  12. The render alone makes that wicked. (looks at sig) You a Heroes fan too?
  13. I think the sig is excellent. I could critique some stuff, but I just don't feel like it. :) But, I'd love to see you do more stuff that isn't just a sig or avatar. It'd be cool if you started some competitions here(since you are a mod) like a pallete challenge (post a pallete and have everyone make something with it. Start with like the default mspaint pallete, and then follow with some other whacky ones, with like 10 colors or less) or a design challenge(This weeks topic: Zombie. Everyone does there rendition of a zombie. That kinda challenge woulndt have to be strictly pixel, tradtitional medium or digipaint would be fine there) or a coloring in a linework challenge. That'd be sweet.
  14. It would seem that your drawing was the source of anatomical inconsistancy. I'm glad you liked my CC. Yea, I made her look wierd, didn't I? Shoulda put 'ARR I must feed!!!' next to it. But, thats just because I had no reference, it wasn't the techniques I described that did it.
  15. Obviously it looks nothing like her, its just an edit to show some techniques Probelms with yours: Too many unnecesary colors. Compare the color you want to use to all the others you'be used perviously in the sig. If another color resembles the color youre choosing, use the color alreayd in the sig instead. Overdithering. Alot of people do this. Dithering is used as a texture, and to blend colors when you use very few. Dithering isn't supposed to be a universal pixel technique that is to be used in very piece. Only use dithering when you need to blend colors that are different in a way thats veyr apparent to the eye. If you cant tell its dithered, it doesnt need to be. Otherwise, only use when you need a rough texture. You dithered almost everything and got almost no effect. No one can tell if you dither or not because the colors didn't contrast enough (though you shouldn't really dither this kinda piece almost at all). Dithering that you did in the shirt is useless. Jagged edges. Remedying this on the black, I AA (antialiased) look it up, and zoom in on what I've done. Notice I used prexisting colors. Those are the big things. That and anatomical structure, but I could go on forever on that. Go rent a book of anatomy. Thanks for reading, hope this helps.
  16. Because everyone must surely have a stlyish goatee.
  17. Maybe you guys could stop argueing on my topic. Wouldn't that be swell? :D
  18. Definatly not my best. Perhaps someday I'll come back to it. For now, I'm tired of looking at it. Done.
  19. I don;t know if this has been mentioned- but did you know that the lemming jumping off a cliff thing was fabricated by Disney when a Lemming Documentery they made was too boring?
  20. Thanks steve. Your sig is beautiful by the way, the both n the subject and artisticaly.
  21. Gave up on hammertime guy, moved on to fire man. Wooo. (Thought so early a stage show some people how I do stuff and provide some tips for beginners)
  22. Yeah cause I'm an egomaniac! Just don't want to drop out from all my friends spot.
