  1. My computer crashed twice during the solve causing me to lose 5 hours of progress. Now I'm just in shock.
  2. There are no physical 20x20x20s; the largest they can make is 11x11x11 (something about the inner design) and they've only made as large as 7x7x7. I'm using Gabbasoft to simulate one. I'd have it finished by now if not for the fact that I've lost the saved file twice.
  3. That's all the notation of the turns you have to make. It's explained on the site and is pretty easy to learn. It also refers to the edge and corner pieces. It becomes second nature pretty quickly. Yeah, I know. It's hard for me to visualize it though...Even with the cube in front of me. Some pictures could help...If that site got pictures, it'd be nice. I'll try it again later, maybe I'll be able to do it when I'm actually awake, rather than half-asleep. This page might be better; it uses pictures to give you an idea of what's going on. On another note, I've solved a 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 and I'm currently working on a 20x20x20 (huge leap, I know). It'll probably be solved over the course of a few days; I'm about 45 minutes in with 9 edges solved and the centers all screwed up. Solving big cubes is fun but insane.
  4. That's all the notation of the turns you have to make. It's explained on the site and is pretty easy to learn. It also refers to the edge and corner pieces. It becomes second nature pretty quickly. Thanks, and I did use a couple algorithms to do that, but they're pretty much second nature to me now. The changing colors sometimes throw me off, too; I think I'm partially colorblind, so I have trouble with some colors, especially yellow and white. As long as you put it together solved, it'll be fine. Problems arise when you don't put it back together solved; 11/12 times it's unsolvable. In fact, if you want to apply a lubricant to the cube so it'll turn faster, you'll need to disassemble the cube at least partially.
  5. The techniques are pretty easy to learn (at least, learning about 5-6 is easy, 100+ for the best solutions isn't quite as easy); the fun with that is to identify and perform them as quickly as possible. As for actually solving it yourself (without memorized move sequences), it's quite a bit more difficult, but I've gotten pretty close (when I try that, I won't use any moves that I already know, I improvise as I go). Thanks, when I saw your 20x20x20 solve I thought "This guy is like a god or something"; that inspired me to finally learn to solve the cube. Question about the big cubes: I see the algorithm in your video for moving the centers, but how do you get the edges in place before that? I always have trouble with them.
  6. *shudders at the thought of how long that would take* Yep, that's the guy. You can't have just two pieces in the wrong place; they might've been rotated incorrectly, but they can't be in the wrong place unless your cube was taken apart and reassembled incorrectly.
  7. From what I've read (I think it was on Lars Petrus's site), they use predetermined 40-move algorithms to scramble the cubes, giving each competitor the same cube so no one gets lucky with a less scrambled cube. If and when Smapla or someone else really good comes along, I'd like some help with the 4x4x4; I can get the centers fine, but the edges usually throw me off. Any help?
  8. (Most recent thread on this subject hasn't been active in 8 months, so I thought it better to start a new one) During the summer, I decided I'd learn to solve the Rubik's Cube after seeing Smapla's video of solving the 20x20x20 (which is just amazing). I had two (the 3x3x3) and have been fascinated with them for years, but unable to solve them (I'm sure many can relate). Despite the temptation, I never took the stickers off or took the cube apart; I kept on trying. It took a long time, but I finally got it. Ever since then, I've wanted to get faster with the cube. I don't know how many people here can solve it, but I think it'd be interesting to know what others have to say about the cube. Peeling the stickers off, painting the sides, putting on new stickers, and disassembling then reassembling the cube don't count, cheaters, :shame: Also, if anyone has trouble solving the cube, I recommend this site, method 2. If you still have trouble, I could try to help. Current record: 35.89 seconds See here
  9. I'll do more tests, but I think the best way to handle them is when you get hit hard by the dragonfire (20+), click on the dragon so you "dance" with it a bit (neither you nor the dragon get an attack in) and eat while dancing. Also, three trips, killed 5 dragons, so it's hard to kill 2 per trip, but it might be possible (when I managed more than one, it was because I'd weakened it at the end of the last trip. My stats are 84 88 82 with 87 hp and 65 prayer, and I took two more sharks than you did (I use Karamja gloves as my teleport). Use Chivalry/Piety instead of the two 15% prayers; I personally tested and found that chivalry drains at the same rate as two 15% prayers at the same time, and it gives better bonuses, too. Also, a trick you can use if you need to restore health and prayer: click on a shark then immediately on a prayer potion. If you do that, there's no delay between the two actions. That's all I can add so far.
  10. So this still works to an extent? I thought it was impossible now that protect from magic doesn't work the same as antidragon shield. I'll have to try it and see how well I do. EDIT: Tried once, killed one dragon, it seems like quite a bit of luck and eating as fast as you can. I think I've found a way that you can eat less, but I'm not sure how well it works. I'll work on perfecting it.
  11. Some embarassment of my own: I just need to keep a few rune and adamant items in my bank just for clues, and I can easily get/make anything else I need, so I don't need stats that high. Still, they'd be nice to have. As for actual contribution, good sources of level 2 clues are guards (I believe, I haven't hunted for clues in forever) and Jellies and Hellhounds are often hunted for level 3s. Not sure if they're the best, but they're the most used (as far as I know).
  12. Under the K-O heading in the section with Uri's items, you reposted the F-J items. Just noticed that while reading the guide. I'd help with the coordinates, but I've sworn off clues until I get 80 some smithing and crafting because it's such a pain getting the items for Uri's clues.
  13. You should add something to heal in your inventory; it's saved me multiple times, and you can't always teleport out. (That's what I was trying to say; I can get long-winded sometimes)
  14. Something that'll help you stay there for a long time: if you have 68 magic and have done Dream Mentor, equip a water staff (leaving the pick in your inventory), carry an equal amount of fire and astral runes in your inventory, and as many waterskins as you can carry (leaving the two open slots for the granite). When you've used your last bit of water, use the humidify spell; it'll fill all the waterskins, and you could theoretically stay there until 99 mining if you bring enough runes.
  15. It's not that I can't read, it's that you should be able to avoid dying entirely if you do it right. However, if you don't have many glories, this is probably the best idea (teleporting to your house constantly isn't a good idea, which I learned from experience). Also, you should have something in your inventory to heal; if you get entangled and teleblocked, the pker will use DDS specs and you're pretty much dead if you can't heal. Saradomin brews are best since they heal 60+ per 4-dose potion and 3-dose pots are 4k each; also, you shouldn't need to use them too often, they're just in case of emergency.
  16. Today, I got 82 magic and tried using Ice Blitz first hit. It was only one run since I didn't have enough chaos for several runs, so I'll have to try it more. I did notice that I only used 20 bloods, which isn't a huge loss, so it might be worth it; I'll do more testing later.
  17. I think it's a better idea to use a lot of armour and a glory. Full Karils, granite shield, mith pick, boots of lightness and spottier cape, Karamja Gloves 3, ring of life and a glory. Carrying a saradomin brew in my inventory, I can heal if I absolutely need to, and the gloves let me teleport out. With that setup, as long as you teleport as soon as you're frozen/entangled, you should never die. Makes it faster overall because you'll die without much armour, and getting pouches back is a pain. Then again, if you don't have many glories, this method can work pretty well. It just seems that you'll die too often not having much armour or something to heal with.
  18. I might increase the stake when I have more money; right now, I get nervous even when staking 100k. What can I say? I'm new to staking and not exactly rich.
  19. Sorry, I'm new at this, obviously, and my cash pile kept fluctuating because I kept banking to make sure I didn't gamble away all my money.
  20. Almost all of those were DDS/Whip stakes except a few which were just whip stakes. At a few points, I banked so I wouldn't be tempted to gamble all my money away. All in all, the arrows, rune items, obby cape, and cash in my inventory in the last shot are all profit.
  21. Once you get 70 defence, if you want to melee the brothers, you should use Veracs. I'm not sure when meleeing them with whip becomes worthwhile since I've never heard much about it. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=485559 -- this guide helps quite a bit for Veracing barrows. If you want to melee them with a whip and Torags, well, I can't really help you there since I've never tried it.
  22. One of those two most likely, although I've had ones in which I've been extremely lucky to survive.
  23. Thanks. As for runecrafting, I do a bit of that myself, but I like barrows more. Though, at my levels, mining is better for money than runecrafting, but both of them get boring to me after about an hour. I could stay at barrows all day and not get bored (something about risking 10.8 million and being inches from death most the time helps it not be boring). I've done at least 13 since then, and nothing except a half key. Thanks. I love that album, probably my favorite ever. I noticed that problem during the run where I got the brassard, so now when I go back, I use 9 sara brews and 3 super restores, giving me an extra row of space for coins and such. I just equip all bolt racks, so keeping them is no problem.
  24. That is a possibility, and I mention it, however briefly, in the guide. I've been trying to kill Karil unpotted with whip and DDS, and I've come to the conclusion that with 83 attack and 87 strength, it's slightly faster to ice burst Karil. However, in the name of profit, it could be done, and it doesn't really take much longer. My only problem with it is that the specs don't seem to hit that much. Thanks! I've actually been cooking up this guide for a while, but I hadn't had the time or supplies to until recently. And it's quite the good method, I'm just not liable if you die while attempting this. Thanks. I haven't yet perfected this method as I don't have the magic level to use Ice Blitz and Barrage and test if I'm right about them costing too much to be overly helpful. As of right now, I'm sticking to that stance, but when I get the levels, I will test it out. Also, this isn't how real men barrow; real men can stay on the grounds for 15 hours without using a single prayer pot or piece of food, though I do bring sara brews and super restores just in case.(I'll make a guide for that method soon). I'm not sure how well that method would work and at the moment, don't intend to try it. Using a mud staff and casting Earth Blast or Wave might be a good alternative, but I haven't tried either, but it sounds like they have potential. As for using the most powerful one on the first hit, for one, I don't yet have the levels to do that. Also, they use blood runes and I try to avoid that if at all possible because they're a good source of profit. When I get 82 and 94 magic, however, I will try that, and I might change my stance. I'll add the aid-off tip in the guide, since it's even more imperative when using Ancients. I didn't think it was worth mentioning, but now that I think about it, it is. Thanks, I never noticed any guides that included this method. In fact, most seemed to write Ancients off as a method that only eats cash and doesn't have much practical use. As for the wrench, I might replace a monkfish the holy wrench, but I'm not totally sure about it. I won't put it in one of the empty spaces as those are for the chaos and bloods you get from the chest, but you could replace a monkfish with one. Thanks, glad to see that my guide helped someone. Just curious, did you use Ice Burst for all hits, or did you use a more powerful ice spell on the first hit?
  25. And 5 runs later... I haven't had to use a single dose of either Sara Brew or Super Restore today, despite bringing them on every run, and I get all my runes back from the chest. This is what I love about barrows: when you get lucky, you get a huge payout.
