Infernal mages aren't any trouble at all for me, but that might be the 80 defence. 1) You can't use a cannon in slayer tower. End of story. 2) Use bones to peaches and heal on their bones. It'll save you a lot of trouble. 3) Their max hit is 8 (they use fire strike), so they shouldn't hit too often or for too much. 4) No safespots, but seriously, you don't run much risk of dying. Focus on ranged attack in the chest, legs, helm, weapon (go with magic short) and for lesser slots, focus on magic defence. You should end up with a pretty good magic defence. 5) If you still have trouble, try range pots and super defence, though neither should be necessary. Hope that helped.

A warrior ring only gives you a slash attack bonus, so using it with Veracs (which only has a stab and crush attack) doesn't make sense. The only ring that would help with Veracs is a berzerker ring.

I've always brought a ring of life to Barrows (except for one run when I forgot to take off my dueling ring), and so far, it's brothers 2, ring 2. I've died twice even with it (45 from Dharok, 20 from Karil), but twice Verac almost killed me and I ended up getting saved at the last minute. Is it worth it to bring Ring of Life? Definitely. The slight advantage of a combat ring isn't worth it, at least in my opinion.

I personally don't have a fire cape yet, but I think it's quite an accomplishment. Sure, some low level players have gotten fire capes, but the character was created for that sole purpose (for the most part). Just because they can get fire cape at such a low level doesn't mean that it's easy; it means that that person is quite skilled (and there's some luck mixed in). Status symbol? I believe it is. Although there are a lot of people with it, they all had to go through the 2-3 hours of combat for it. About paying others to do it, I've never heard of this practice before, and as of right now, I have no comment on the issue.

Mathematics is a singular word, therefore its correct abbreviation in MATH. I know Maths is used in other countries, but here in the states it is Math. All words that end with 's' aren't plural, and this is one case. sorry? mathematicS take out the ematic and you get mathS But why take out "ematic" and keep the "s"? Why not chop the entire word off at math? (I use math more often, but occasionally the British side of me uses maths). On the topic, in anything probability related, there's going to be a huge deviation. There could be different ways that the drops are figured out, but I'm going by the god letters saying that it's like a roulette wheel. It doesn't surprise me at all that more than one person got it on the first kill in this test. It's all probability, one of the things I'm glad I've learned in my algebra classes.

What would YOU do? (..after a great loss)
Mischlings replied to Lunar_Drifter's topic in General Discussion
For the first one, I keep going until I realize either it's pointless to try or I drive the other person out. For the second, losing the party hat, I'd just pick myself back up and keep going. Might not play for a day or two, but then I'd go right back, and invest my money in something else. After all, I don't let death drag me down. -
In response to the max amount of herbs being 12, I got this earlier: That's 15, with magic secateurs, so I know you can get more than 12. Besides that, this is a great guide. It's helped me get to my current herblore level, and probably will help me beyond here.

Okay, I'll stop. I just had a chance to use my math skills, and I'm weird and like doing math. I'll admit, I'm after a visage, but killing wyverns is a pain and I'm thinking of just going back to training slayer like I usually do. And clues? *shudders* Ever since they added emote clues, I've hated doing clues.

Smithing, Construction and farming take all the profit away, in those 3 skills If you raise woodcutting with construction, 80-99 construction would cost 46.7 million. Smithing 80-99 with steel plates (alching the plates) costs 100.1 million. As for farming, I can't even begin to figure out how much that one will cost, since the ways of training are so varied. Smithing and construction would cost a combined 146.8 million, so the profit's not all gone. That's true, neither of us included that, but I can't be sure what fortune he accumulated while training slayer, so I excluded that to make my life easier. EDIT: Calculated farming. With the most efficient method, farming from 80-99 planting all palm trees and magic trees, if none die (paying the farmer), the seeds will cost 126 million, the fruits to pay the farmer will cost 49.5 million, totalling 175.5 million. That comes out to 322.2 million for those three skills, still leaving 63.7 million profit.

Soloing runecrafting from 92-99 will give a 315 million profit (that includes the cost of super energy potions). Wakka implied earlier that he'd use the lunars Port Khazard mining method, mining iron from 86-99 will give a profit of 15.2 million (after factoring in the cost of the runes for teleporting). The Ardougne method would give a profit of about 19.9 million. Training hunter from 80-99 will give a 28.7 million profit. Wakka will probably fly fish, but fishing monkfish from 80-99 would give a 27.3 million profit. I don't mean to tell you what to do, Wakka, and sorry if it sounds like I am, I'm just crunching some numbers to try and help you. You'd make 386-390 million on those 4 skills, but I'm not sure if that alone could pay for all 99s. You've probably done all the calculations, I'm just trying to help you if you haven't already. That might be enough money; since I've never bought a skill, I wouldn't know. Just trying to offer some insight with numbers.

18 June 2007 - The Dragonfire Shield and Game Improvements
Mischlings replied to Uula's topic in General Discussion
No, because this was the first topic about the update, and also the main update topic. The crossbow update is making me regret dropping the thousands of bolts I used to have. I just recently made a rune crossbow, and it's looking like it'll be quite a bit better than before. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it comes out, then make a bunch of bolts. -
You also need a drop from a dragon, don't know what the item is called and I'm too lazy to look it up. So no, it's not just Dragon Slayer. And why would anyone want to restore the d sq? We also need items for the less fortunate people. Its called Dragons Visage, but still for such a good item, its such an easy quest. I agree with that, using the Dragon Square as a base for the new shield would mean Legends right? Thought it maybe wouldn't have the special effect and charging capabilities that it has this way... You could simply have the visage added to the square shield, which would give it the ability to charge from dragonfire, or you might have to smith the square shield, antidragon shield, and visage all together. They could've incorporated the dragon square shield into this, yes, but there's probably some reason they chose not to.

Whether or not you call me "good", I love where I am in the game right now. I'm not so rich that I can buy anything on a whim, yet I have a decent level of wealth (I'd guess my bank is worth about 20 million). I have almost everything I need to do my favorite activities in the game (slayer and agility, to name a couple), and I never get bored of what I do. So do I like being good? If you consider me good, then yes, I do.

5 Favorite and Least Favorite Slayer Tasks?
Mischlings replied to Abyssalwhip's topic in General Discussion
Favorites (no real order): Bloodvelds Fire Giants Aberrant Specters Blue Dragons Basilisks Least (Again, no real order): Jungle Horrors Turoths Kurasks Desert Lizards Steel Dragons (my stats aren't yet high enough to kill them effectively) Got 75 slayer today and got my first gargoyle task; I'm trying to decide if it's going to go on either list, but so far, it looks like a good task. -
Can you confirm if the black mask and berserker necklace bonuses stack? I haven't been able to do the tests yet, and I was just wondering if anyone else has. Either way, I still say it's the best way to train strength.
-
I'm turning all the gems I've collected over the last 3-4 months into jewelry of various types. Not sure what I'll be doing after that.
-
Best way to do it is keep your health high (freezing or tanking the brothers, shouldn't be too difficult) then once you reach the tunnel, heal off the monsters down there. Of course, there are other ways to use it, too. That's just what works best when going for speed.
-
When I decide to actually train my strength (which isn't too often), I get out my newly-acquired berzerker necklace and Toktz-Xil-Ak (obsidian short sword); xp wise, it's almost the same as the whip, just for strength (in Player Made Guides, Gonpost's guide says that the whip gives 65k xp/hour at bloodvelds, while the Toktz-Xil-Ak gives 64k), so I go with that combination. And I believe that the bonus stacks with the black mask, which makes it even more fun since I almost always train combat on slayer.

Do you actully collect your own raw materials?
Mischlings replied to Tbfgraphx14's topic in General Discussion
Zaspiel, who wrote a mining/smithing/crafting guide on the official forums, has 99 mining, 99 smithing, and 90 crafting, all from mining gold, smelting it, and turning it into amulets and other assorted jewelry. That's the only one that I really know of. As for myself, I'm mostly self-sufficient, though I will buy things when I need them. -
I was assuming that, on average, you'd hit half of the max hit. I did mention at the end that with the range bonus you'd hit more often, but since I'm unable to calculate how much more often, I just went with 7.5. The average could be 8, 9, or 10, but since I didn't know, I erred on the low side of the range. Between that and other assumptions (hitting 9 targets at once at all times, which just isn't possible), I'd say that going with the middle ground like I did is a pretty good estimate, although I could be wrong. There are too many factors to take into consideration, so I just went with the factors that I could, hence the margin of error. I never claimed to be totally accurate, just made an estimate. (range + (range * rangeBonus)) / (range + (range * rangeBonus) + opponentDef) I could get really precise and use that formula (which is the chance of hitting the opponent), but since we don't know the defence of the apes or dagannoths, I can't go ahead and use it, so I can't be that sure. If you have a better estimate and can back it up well, I'll admit defeat and give you credit.
-
Assuming the cannonballs will hit for an average of 15 (max hit is 30, so take half of it), you'll get approximately 2.2 million xp (2 xp per hit) from the cannon, getting you to level 92 ranged. As for the chinchompas, I recommend following others' advice and use the money from herb seeds at dagannoths to buy potions to use for killing skeletons in Ape Atoll. As for the xp those will give, the max hit is 15 (according to Zybez), so an average of 7.5, and assuming you'll hit 9 targets each time (unrealistic, but let's just assume), the chinchompas will give 5.4-5.5 million xp (4 xp per hit), which would get you to 98 ranged. Since that estimate is a little high, I'd say it's safe to say that you have 97 range banked, but not quite 99. There's a decent margin of error here, though, because of all the assumptions. Seeing as you have a high ranged bonus, I'd guess that you have a decent shot of getting 99 ranged from what you have banked, but don't count on it.

Master Slayer Guide by Axe Man Jack (AOW) Updated 9/06
Mischlings replied to bigmoneyak's topic in General Guides
You say in the guide that you can't get dagannoth tasks from Duradel, yet I've gotten two from him in the last two days. I forgot to get a screenshot, and if I get another dagannoth task from him, I'll post one here. Just letting you know, and if you need the proof, I'll get it to you. -
Backtrack a bit, go into the Head Mourner's office, and search his desk. Take the new key.
