another way to look at life... ?
It was "a belief", not "an idea". Eh, close enough :-w . What if I love Jesus and want to live (or die) for him? Is it stupidity because I would die for my beliefs, or is it just right since I want to live/die for someone I love? If someone put a gun to your head and told you to denounce Jesus as the Son of God, and you said no and got shot for it, yes, I'd call that stupidity. I'd also call it heartlessness towards your loved ones who are alive with you now.

The 'Official' "I think Religion/Agnosticism is bunk" thread
I've seen several "mysterious ways" in which God works with. For one, my father has been looking for a new job for years. He stopped looking when my grandmother was ill. In his prayers, he told God that he would stop looking in order to take care of my grandmother to the very end. When we came home from her funeral, a job offer for Vice President was waiting in his inbox. Today, we had a freak tornado system at my Uni. My mother lives 400 miles away, and had an instinct to call me to see if I was all right. Just because God doesn't pop out and go "LOL, ITS ME!" every hundred years doesn't mean he isn't working. See? Toldcha Continuum. Me, Bari, I think Buddha did it.

Continuum is right, are you just going to kill yourself because you feel like you're a simple dot drowned in an infinity of dots, a cabbage in a cabbage bomb (go Ooc)? The simple fact that you have a computer once again shows you don't feel that obsolete... It was "a belief", not "an idea". Eh, close enough :-w . And even though they don't find a complete and simple meaning in life, they decide to live, so I don't get where you're going with the suicidal thing :-k . The bolded part is confusing the Hell out of me. What do you mean?

How do you feel after you reach a 99?
I'd feel like it's worthless, and I wouldn't believe I wasted all that time getting some pixel number. Though if it was 99 Magic I'd probably just say, "Finally, I own. Time to really cube noobies, (V)UAHAHAH!". *Patiently awaits flames of people telling me to get my [wagon] out of general P2P*

The 'Official' "I think Religion/Agnosticism is bunk" thread
Okay. Just wondering, if you don't believe that, why'd you say "for the past two thousand years"? Were you speaking to the Christians on this forum, saying that God hasn't been doing anything since Jesus was here? I doubt that would work; they'd just say "God has always been with us, and always will be with us", or some other crud like that :-w .

The 'Official' "I think Religion/Agnosticism is bunk" thread
Ya, edited while you were posting^. It's not like we have any proof that he was the Son of God. In fact, it's been debated for millenia, so I don't think anyone can just say he's the Son of God, a saviour, and be right without a shadow of a doubt. For this reason, we can't really say if God really ever did anything when Jesus was alive. You can believe it, but that's your belief, not a fact worthy to be used as evidence in a proper debate.

Where he was for all the time before those two thousand years- watching from his high cloud in the sky, looking down at everyone and letting the human race figure out life on it's own. Honestly, just because some people in the Bible thought "God was helping them", doesn't mean things were actually any different then they were for other nations. "God's people" fought battles and made settlements, and on paper they called everything good that happened to them "God's will" and everything bad as "God was pissed". They never met God, they just acted like they did. It's not like they were really any different than any other ancient people; God's was as active before two thousand years ago as he was and is after. And in case this didn't come up in my message, even though I'm "Catholic", I still believe Jesus was nothing more than a holy, good willed teacher and leader, who helped many a people and acted as a precedent for us all.

another way to look at life... ?
Wait, let me get this straight. You're saying that the only way we can have meaning or a purpose in our life is to be famous for all of eternity, after we're dead? Lol. Oh, and notice you you use the words "becomes meaningless", thus implying that we have meaning to lose when we die. Your practically contradicting your whole point. Honestly, do you even believe what you're saying?

I believe this falls into the catergory of "I'm not going to supply a logical retort, so I'll just insult you." Stop being blind and grow a new pair of eyes. Sometimes it isn't as easy as it seems. . I went through the exact same stage hobbit is going through under a year ago, being a teenager myself. Leave the condescending insults somewhere else, bub. Oh, and by "do something for the world", I don't mean go become a superhero and stop the planet from exploding. I mean, do something for the people of the world. He could do anything from doing the dishes when he wasn't told to, to give his mom a hand, to helping out at orphanages or anything else; they should try and help as much as is possible for them. It's just way too many people on this thread seem to have a stupid, egotistical, selfish attitude.

I know that, or least I hope that. It's just, dude: Actually its pretty easy not to feel guilty. All you have to do is pretend it didn't happen. If you tell yourself "i never did (so and so)" enough times. you will believe you have never done it. and it will not affect you at all.

Meh, me neither. But when people start talking like murderers (NOT you Continuum), it's hard to think of anything else to say. I mean, look at his avatar.

Then stop thinking about the sun, and think of the millions of generations that would come before the sun would explode. Live your life for people, for those who need your help. And c'mon, going to school (which you have to do anyways), and sitting at your computer with your parents money isn't exactly what I'd call a rebuttal for not being lazy. Oh, and fly, not to sound like I'm going with society on this one, but see a psychiatrist.

But the changes to the world you made still exist. I don't want fame five hundred years from now, no one should. I want to make it better, whether people remember me or not. Again, stop being frikking fatalists. Now I've got to watch Eureka 7, be back in half an hour.

Okay, here's an argument for the people who seem to feel the need to repeat themselves over and over in saying that what they do means nothing to the universe. What we do, no matter how little we do, we always make a difference on every level. Whether it being moving our arms to slightly change the course of the wind, or putting an end to the Civil War. It doesn't matter how little or great something seems from your limited perspective, our existence makes a difference. Think of it like voting, if you can't understand it. When you vote, you add one measly number to the millions of votes going towards candidates. To our minds, it seems like nothing, pointless. To us, 1/300 million = 0. Wana know why? It's not because it's true, it's because our mind comprehend their size and magnitude of what we do at such small levels. Same goes for high levels- like how one fails to understand the size of something once you starting going into the trillions. Our minds can't comprehend it at those levels (such as our arm blocking), but the difference is there. If the difference wasn't there, then every election would be a draw. For those of you who are lazy to do anything right now, think of the world five hundred years from now. Now, think of what you can do now that can make that world in the future better. Try to WANT to make a difference in the world of today, and of later generations. Personally, I want the world five hundred years from now to be worse without me existing today than if I did exist today. I want to make things better for other people, and you should too if you aren't heartless bastards. Stop giving into fatalism, get off your [wagon], and do something for the world. Not the same thing, I'm backing my "fatalism speech" with Reason. And I'm telling you your little "fatalism speech" is bull. By the way, great use of rhetoric totally turning your point around in the second to last paragraph. Oh: In case you didn't catch it, I was referring to fat in my post- I recall that he made a post very much like this a few weeks ago. I wasn't referring to you there when I said "repeating" :-w .

Didn't we already get a fatalism speech? Are you just repeating this for us?

Yu-Gi-Oh is satanic! And that post is a joke, right? Please tell me someone didn't really say that, and that that sidenote isn't actually true. (By the way Bari: this is EXTREME fundamentalists we're talking about. We're not talking about you, so don't take it personally :P .)

Oh that's easy, Noah's ark is just one example of many, but one that we teach to our children as some kind of heartwarming tale. Hey, we teach our kids Ring around the Posie too. Not like anyone thinks that's evil.

Have a paradox?
Personally (I don't know if this goes with any theory, it's just random conjecture), I believe that if we went back in time and changed something, and went back to our own time, nothing would change. The reason being that one can't go back in time in their own dimension, so they instead end up going to another dimension that's at the time period they desire, and change the course of history in that dimension. It's weird and complicated, and I'm not even in college, so it's probably bull :-w . Oh well.
-
Have a paradox?
Because he's a Christian :P I'd love to see how Carlin would bat that little paradox away, most likely '[omg] any1 hu nos wat 'omnizipunt' meenz iz lik gona go 2 hell coz dey dunt belif in God' Err, I consider most Christian beliefs to be bull [cabbage].... I used to believe that paradox, maybe two weeks ago, but Nitra's explanation shows why it's wrong. Having your whole life known before birth does not necessarily mean you lose "free will", and Nitra's explanation should explain why. Personally, I still don't think we have free will, not because a god could be omniscient, but based on the fact that every action we make is merely a reaction to our environment :-w .
