  1. You state things like "as long as the computer and the real world can be balanced" and "if used properly." I think the point of the article is showing what happens if you DON'T use it properly. Not saying it always happens....but for some people, internet cuts into school/work time, eating time, sleeping time....And when that happens, and when you dream and get withdrawals from not playing, I'm pretty sure your addicted. But there is a difference between playing a lot of RS and being addicted to it and having it even get in the way of jobs and school and RL friends, etc.
  2. LOVED THE SKIPPY ONE! Especially since it led me to the real Skippy's list. And the RS addiction one...it felt like quite a buzzkill after reading the first hilarious article. Still, I think it's a good article. As for the people thinking it's not an addiction because of no physical symptoms...I think that really depends on your definition of addiction. His story certainly made him sound like he had addiction. Also, lil bit of related trivia: there are internet rehab centers in China....keep that in mind when arguing that RS or video game addiction is not a real addiction.
  3. 99 all stats? That is WAYYYYY to much grinding. After a certain point, you DO need something other to do then grind skills to 99. Maybe 80+ all skills? Also, having done every quest and a number of minigames, I find I still have plenty of things to do...summoning, rank minigames, get more armour... I'm level 138, I have completed every quest, and my lowest skill is level 73. I don't enjoy any of the skills anymore because they've gotten stale. Any update has no replay value and isn't fun in the first place (on the average of 1 medium 1 small update per month, compared to 1 large 2 medium 1 small back in 2005-2006). That's probably why they've lost my $5/month. It almost seems as if the development team has shrunk in size because the lack of quality updates is quite disturbing. I would have been happy to pay Jagex far more than $5/month in 2005-2006 but now I wouldn't even pay $1/month for RuneScape. Considering what all you have done, I don't blame you for being bored and cancelling your membership lol. If I were you I would quit for a year or two and wait till there is enough new stuff to make it worth coming back. (Btw, if you read the topic, there are a number of reasons why the development seems to have shrunk in size; for instance, if it's a brand new update that requires more code, it takes longer but the players see less of a result, and it would also be worth checking out the past two development diaries. But yeah, whatever the reasons, there is less new content coming out then there used to.) Also, now that I think about it, I really like these articles, because of the heated discussion it costs. It's rather boring when you get articles that has two pages of "yup, I agree." I like these opinionated articles more, written more as a personal opinion or editorial rather then something general to make sure no one flames you. Also, I have to comment on this: Note that in between those two years, there is probably next to no updates, or at the very least anything larger then a small patch or bug fix. (Note I'm an ignorant person who has never played WoW, so if I'm wrong PLEASE correct me.) Quit RS for two years and chances are you will find that all the updates during those two years kinda add up eh....I mean, if you quit two years ago and came back now, they CERTAINLY turned the game upside down lol, although more last year then this year.
  4. You know, this is exactly the thing that the "Wake Up" article needed. Although, we should cut them some slack as they are updating the code....Just some. Also, unless you have actually done programming stuff, it's hard to say how big an update truly is. Is working with old code to create more of the same, as in more monsters and areas? I got the impression MA is in a sense a bigger update then many of those because they need new code. But really, I have no idea. I would like to see someone who does. Also, updates are probably harder now because there's much more code needed for graphics in HD.....Maybe. I don't know, do you? *stops speculating about how hard updates are because I have no clue*
  5. This. And also: Development Diaries ;) ;) They can't give that for every update, it removes the fun of surprise. But they are there for a reason. The hints they give in postbags (C.E. riddles and such) are enough of a clue on what updates are to follow. Ppl without patience want a timeline appearantly. I, on the otherhand, prefer to be surprised by them, and i don't mind waiting a couple of weeks, because I understand and respect the time that is put into developing/testing/fixing any update. Learn to enjoy what you have, putting up higher and higher expectations will only make you more disgruntled. The problem is, just because the Chaos E says something is coming out, it doesn't mean it's coming out even within the next freaking year...
  6. Yeah, does need to be changed. And I wish Jagex could give us SOME sort of timeline on new updates. Tell us about some of the updates; specifically start of the month updates, because then you can say you expect it to come out in say september, and then if it gets delayed you still have till the end of the month. Or maybe if you have a big MA update planned to come out in 3 months, say it's planned for the next 6 months, and update that info if something comes in 3 months later? Also, yeah, why is the QA team on such a tight timeline that forces them to prioritize what bugs they fix if Jagex got rid of the BTS to prevent that in the first place? I semi agree with the "Wake Up" article about deadlines and such; but then again, they DID say it was an upgrade year; as someone pointed out they are updating old code so they can make better upgrades, and I also FREAKING LOVE all the quest storyline continuations. As for WoW versus RS....another reason why it's a bit unfair to compare them is because, at the end of the day, Runescape is still nothing but a simple Java based game, whereas WoW requires major downloading. Jagex could probably intergrate things like jumping, swimming, numbers for casting spells, etc, if it required a serious download. One of the key things ABOUT RS is that you can play it on a simple web browser that supports java. Hell, certain phones meet that criteria! I can very easily see an iphone the supports full playing of runescape tbh. I can't say much else about comparing the two games as I have never played them. Some updates are always wasted on someone, and the people more likely to say something about an update are the people who hate it; people who like the update play and use the update instead of commenting. Also, quite a bit of the MA hype was players. They mentioned before it came out that MA involved a lot of new code, and that new code development, although good in the long run because you now have this new code to use, is bad in the short run BECAUSE PLAYERS GET HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND GET DISAPPOINTED. In otherwise, JaGex subtly pointed out to us before MA came out that it would be kinda disappointing.
  7. Lol. I'm not surprised, I would hate quests if I had to do that many in a short period of time. Even though I love quests atm and my quest cape. You should probably work on like one quest a day or something. Or come up with shorter goals. I had more to say, but after reading a few pages of posts I forget know... Uh, except that Jagex has recently started to continue old quest storylines instead of working on old ones. Part of that is that it's update year, and they're updating old quests, but I think Jagex is going to continue uh, continuing storyline for us. I really want another WGS type reward to come out though LOL. Because I want more money and summon exp >_<
  8. That's you. Some people like to skill. Some people might spend money on skills to put all skills in highscores. Because they want to try to keep all stats equal, or at least not have some skills lagging behind. Even when I was f2p, I trained firemaking and smithing even though I wasn't gaining money...although I collected my own materials, so in a way I didn't lose any. And don't underestimate the motive of training for a minigame or a quest either. And not all people play runescape in a purely economical fashion, otherwise they would realize the collecting your own materials does not mean you gain profit. Collect filled vials, ranarrs and snape grass yourself, put it together and you have profit? From a purely economical standpoint, only the collecting gains money, and once you start production you gain less money in exchange for spending more time. Yet some people do it anyways. Personally I don't mind it, as the illusion helps them train their skills. That would be a change in skilling; now resource collecting skills are dead, instead of production skills. I enjoyed both articles, although I would like a much more detailed version of the lesser known great bugs, including how they work. (For instance, I wonder how the BA runes collecting glitch worked. And as long as the glitch is fixed, there is no harm in telling us.)
  9. The concept behind CB was Obscenely high HP Prayer - GONE! Familiars - GONE! Armour defences - GONE Also, you say CB is easy to take out with a 20 man team. Well.....NO [CABBAGE] But, how many bosses make you run around to avoid area attacks? Hmm....Give a TD a powerup, give him an area attack....then why not throw in two prayers at once.... I think when Jagex released GW, they were hoping the minions would make prayer ineffective; well, it didn't. To me though, the hardest part about boss monsters is finding 2 hours of spare time that I KNOW for a FACT I can spend on RS without interruptions, with finding a team a close second. I think they should try combining all good boss into one boss. TD, switches prayer, Jad, need for YOU to keep an eye out and switch prayer, CB, high hp/damage nulifier (ruby e bolts hitting 100...) and an area attack... Also, the one time I tried TD's (shortly after they came out, before they were updated) they were quite fun, with the darklight, both of you switching prayer, etc. One thing is though, once you know how to do anything, it's easy. Unless your taking out CB with a 4 (or 2 if that's even worth trying) man team. Also, Jagex needs to be careful about making a boss too powerful; if a boss had a 50/50 ratio of killing/being killed when you fight it with perfect strategy (don't ask me how) then Jagex would need to do something about the death penalty for it. But without the penalty for dying, there's no risk...
  10. You'd be surprised - most barragers don't use much, if any strategy at all; I've beaten more then one barrager before (I know have ice blitz, but I've done this in my bursting days too) and caused others to leave the game because I don't try to tank at center and horribly, epically fail. I've also gotten beaten by lower level rangers then me, because I don't try when I'm being hunted, whereas they end up being very good hiders. There's more to FoG then stats. Or d claws. Going offtopic, but if you teleport or enter a house and time it right, you can waste a persons claw specs.
  11. ahahaha i didn't realise they got rid of that stuff, it was embarassing The stronghold is still there, but I assume they took the focus off of player safety. And hopefully got rid of some of the doors. Also, you don't change your username, you change your display name; I think it's similar to how a clanchat is registered to an individual person, but the clan chat can have any sort of name. I've always wanted a stab option on the godsword.....IM-FREAKING-PALE! Imagine that thing sliding in then out of someone...and how many arteries would be stuck to it on the way out.... And wtf is this about mod mmg and godhood o.O
  12. The boxes thing is actually a kind of map of somewhere in the temple of light; the lines match the wall layout. The word boxes is written in blue, meaning MEP3 is in the blue box stage. I came up with absolutely none of that on my own btw. If you read the thread, someone has those lines combined with a temple of light map for an avatar; he figured it out. Forget who came up with the blue boxes. 99% of the postbag hidden clues have already been figured out somewhere in this thread I'm afraid. Including the elemental workshop, although good job on figuring it out yourself. I just come here to read, not offer my own solutions >_> 'course it was pretty much figured out when I was posting anyways.
  13. The chaos e does seem kinda evil. I think they connected evil dave and the chaos e as a way just to give us a hint. I think that the chaos e is jas, or related to jas; seems kinda useless otherwise, for jagex to give the chaos e a random name. But, theres bound to be some kinda connection between the two. Somewhere. But the chaos e, as it is now, does not obey/belong to Dave, and if it's Jas it never did. But, 3 years in the wilderness would change something, no? Oh, at it was revealed that the soul wars dude name started with a Z. He should've been on the list if he was a mahjarrat.
  14. I haven't read all of this, YET....but you just blew my brain. Nomad isn't a mahjarrat, otherwise he would've been on the k-z list.
  15. You'd be surprised at some of the people I've run into. Most lvl 130+ with barrage and d claws seem to think it's their RIGHT to win because they have ancients and d claws, and will often lead because you don't hide in the center. I had an argument with a barrager about hiding, him thinking it's wrong, my argument consisting of "hey, I won didn't I?" Wonder if I should've put this in rants lol.
  16. So how does that work with mage robes or leather :?: It obviously doesn't have to copy thing but why change things that don't need altering? langer, stfu. Just cos you don't know basic things there is no need to find my posts and call me what ever pathetic names you can think of. It says more about you than me. You can think what you like about me but is there any need to go on other threads, go totaly off topic and throw insults at me? I don't see any other threads. Furthermore, saying stfu is a bit worse to me then saying you can't use logic because it is an acronym for a saying including a swear. Also, who can't take a joke now? As to defence...The game is based on probability. When you consider things like armour allowing you to dodge easier, the simplest answer is that you are overanalyzing it. Also, theoretically a lvl 3 COULD be a lvl 138 in full statius. In theory. Defence and armour raise the chance of you taking less or no damage from a hit, while attack raises the chance of hitting (higher chance of not hitting a 0, higher chance of hitting closer to your max) whereas str raises your max, and weapons do both. The problem is, when it is all based on probabilities, the unlikely probabilities will appear sometimes. When you calculate the odds of the thousands of hits against you, you run into unlikely results. If def didn't work, 99 def tankers wouldn't work, or be desired in clans. It's also worth noting selective memory; we aren't going to think about or make a mental note of every time your def works, you only think of the unlikely results; as those ones get your attention. That being said, sometimes I wonder....sometimes it DOES feel like 80 def could be better then 99 lol...but it's probably our imagination o.O
  17. its got the same stat bonuses as all the other godswords. Overall, they probably aren't the greatest, but he could of said it in a manner that doesn't make me think of him as a Neanderthal. Anyways, the high hits are fun; I can hit fairly high with my bgs, and I don't need to have low hp with prayer to use it. The accuracy bonus on it can come in handy on things with high def; namely boss monsters, but it helps at barrows some days. (Other days I just use my flail or salamander if my flail doesn't work either.) Also, d claws are, to my knowledge 100% useless without the special; I cannot think of anything where using the claws w/o the spec would be useful. With Godswords, you at least have Godwars, as well as other creatures with high def, such as Black Demons (at least according to others in the thread)
  18. Well, I tried looking for a thread about this but I couldn't find anything. Sorry if a thread like this already exists. What is your opinion on people in FoG who hide? Personally I think hiding is allowed. Hunter and Hunted, with the hunted running and hiding was the main point of the game. That is what the houses were made for. Also, (at least to me) the game is much more fun when you are attacking a good hider, and vice versa, when you need to hide from your opponent. I find it very poor sport to leave a game because the person is hiding, which has happened to me on at least one memorable occasion. And please excuse me; I was lvl 116 at most, against a lvl 130+ with 3a robe bottom and dragon claws, and I am expected to tank in the center!? And furthermore, I see no reason against hiding, except to not irritate hunters who are looking for quick easy wins instead of a more challenging opponent. I hope someone comes up with a good reason though :)
  19. To slightly back him up on what he said; Slayer is almost as pointless as firemaking. The idea of killing things because someoen told you to is stupid. Which is why quests in other mmorpgs are stupid. And getting levels so you can kill more things is also stupid. My opinion. You know, if you look at it that way, most skills are stupid...wc....skills like smithing are stupid in a sense, as smithing hundreds of say steel platebodies would not help you learn how to make arrows out of adamant, and most have that same type of flaw. How does crafting yew long bows teach me how to craft magic short bows? The best way to learn that, other then being taught by the fletching master, would be to take magic logs and fletch them until I perfect my technique. I could go on... But it's a MMORPG. What do you expect? Anyways, slayer is still a popular skill. It's just many people want maxed combat really fast, and to do that you can't train slayer at the same time. A certain view is that at maxed combat slayer is a hell of a lot easier. And if you get maxed combat, you can find much better gw teams, with drops worth more then a whip, you might be able to solo gw, you can pk a lot better. And many people like it for the variety. But, it's a game with over a milion players. You can't please everyone. Some of them will go to AZs for reasons previously mentioned. Not trying to put slayer down mind you. It's a nice skill. I only wish I had 78 right now lol. But w/e.
  20. ADD ME TO THE LIST OF PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY ARE DISADVANTAGEOUS. I have never really liked skillcapes; skillcapes were made, in my opinion, for people who got 99 in a skill either by constant use or by training it because they are a skiller. The number of people who have gotten 99 skills since they have come out has gone up tremendously, with the effect of making production skills almost entirely unprofitable. The GE didn't help that mind you. Also, people now often strive for skillcapes not as an accomplishment, but to not feel like a noob; which is a bit of an irony because I look down on people who get 99 cooking just to "keep up with the Jones.'" (Keep in mind that I'm not trying to say getting 99 cooking isn't an accomplishment, I am looking down on the motivation to achieve it, not the work done to get it.) Also, it has turned RS from a fun game to mindless grinding for many just to get a skillcape to keep up with the Jones. They aren't easy to get, they are generally a tough grind; the only purpose to the tough grind is to be better then the next guy. I'm all for healthy competition, but skillcape grinding competition is unhealthy... Worth noting that I wasn't really aware of the prices of things like raw vs cooked food, and didn't bother because (I thought, might not've been true) you could only trade stuff like food and such in quantities of thousands. I didn't know general item prices until the GE came out, long after skillcapes. Why would you spend more time on a skill than you need to? I for one know that I would rather spend 3 weeks on cooking and take a loss than spend 3 months on it and possibly profit. WHY are you training in the first place? BECAUSE OF SKILLCAPES. This may not be the case for you, but that is the case for a lot of cooking training; yes, although it makes sense to use the faster way to train cooking, how many people would be training it if it wasn't for skillcapes? And although raw fish were apparently worth more before skillcapes came out, skillcapes probably increased the gap. Think about it, how hard was it for you to make that bow? You did two clicks and 1 second later out popped the bow. You can't think of these things in terms of their real life counterparts. Now if ingame it took an hour to fletch each bow, you would probably make a decent profit. Correct, and in the time you spent walking you earned: whatever xp you gained from the item and whatever amount of money it is worth over its raw materials. If you spend very little time on the item (or it rewards a lot of xp), you might end up losing money. Part II: It sounds to me like people aren't complaining about skillcapes, but are upset with a flaw in the game where secondary skills aren't profitable, and you are (inaccurately) blaming skillcapes for the discrepancy. First of all, you guys overlook runecrafting, the most profiable skill and a secondary skill! To make all secondary skills profitable I propose that they make them more like RC: 1- speed up the rate of collecting raw materials and slow down the rate of crafting them. The latter might include increasing the level requirements to craft high level items (or make high level players craft them more quickly a la RC). The former would definitely include making it good xp to gather high level raw materials. 2- increase demand (this might mean you have to raise alchemy values) It's not entirely inaccurate to blame skillcapes for the discrepancy; I didn't realize till I read through this thread that the discrepancy was there before hand, but it still made it worse. Also, as people have pointed out, changes (like speeding up the rate of collecting raw materials and slow down the rate of crafting them) is just going to make an even worse problem. Also, if you double the alch value of say the magic longbow, what would happen is that would double not only the price of the magic longbow, but the price of magic logs, and quite possibly bow strings; and at the end of the day, it would still probably be a loss to make a magic longbow, and the same with alching them. WOOT! FINALLY FINISHED READING THROUGH EVERYTHING. Hmm...my colour makes me the enemy of the topic starter, even though I agree with him...
  21. I don't know this for a fact, but try d claw speccing a guy in like full torags and a crystal shield or something, compared to ags spec'ing them. Pretty sure the ags would do better as it has higher accuracy against the high defence torags. I want to test that now... D claws are also useless when not using the spec.
  22. I don't know this for a fact, but try d claw speccing a guy in like full torags and a crystal shield or something, compared to ags spec'ing them. Pretty sure the ags would do better as it has higher accuracy against the high defence torags. I want to test that now...
  23. There are a few member uses. Some people like minigames. Vyrewatch stuff. Different lantern stuff. That being said, firemaking out of all the skills probably needs the most development. And other then maybe total level for fog, I can't see anything useful it does on f2p. With vyrewatch, and maybe the new-ish minigame, firemaking is not longer too useless on p2p. Could still use quite a bit of development. It is, to my knowledge, almost entirely useless on f2p. Making fires anywhere isn't that useful; and besides, just look for a normal tree to burn, which is the most common tree around at lvl 1. Note though, firemaking wasn't intended as a money sink; it was intended as a mobile way to cook food. Usefull in RSC when you didn't have a bank. Plus, it takes logs out of the game; what it does to money is move it from one person to another. Jagex is putting some work into firemaking. Has a few uses. Also, there ARE flaming arrows in the game, from the underground pass quest. However, they are only useful for the quest, and no better then a non-fire arrow. If Jagex added requirements to make higher level fire arrows (you could probably make a rune fire arrows at lvl 1) and made them useful... The skill does have possibilities. And it's slowly becoming more and more useful.
  24. Do you have any idea how easy it would be for jagex to relocate or add some skillcape masters to f2p if they wanted to give f2p skillcapes? Move firemaking guy, give a guy in mages tower a magic cape, etc. Give the skill tutors the cape of their skill that they tutor about. etc. I could probably figure out locations for every f2p skill in half an hour if I tried. I think they should. And I highly doubt that f2p'ers become members to get a skllcape. Furthermore, by them becoming members, it takes the accomplishment away, in a certain sense; if your p2p, or were ever p2p, people could always argue that you got the skillcape when you were p2p. Also, list of f2p skills with a skillcape dude in f2p area: Defence. Prayer. Runecrafting. Hitpoints. Crafting. Mining. Smithing. Cooking. Woodcutting. (Sorry if any of these are wrong, but I'm 90% sure they aren't.) Also, is there any arguement for them not having skillcapes other then because skillcapes are members, and some members want members things to remain exclusive to members as matter of general principle?
  25. Most scapers? How could you possibly know what most scapers consider a high level? Only 10% of all members (around there) have 75+ slayer. based on the assumption that there are at least 1 million members. 10% of 1 million is 100k, and the person with 100k rank on slayer has 75 slayer. Something that requires a level that 90% of RS players do not have (not including free players for this either) means it is logically a high level update. Also, 78 slayer is not that far from 80.
