  1. Introduction Welcome to the inventor skill discussion thread. I created this thread in response to some interesting thoughts on how Inventor might be developed by jagex from player suggestions made within the community. I also wanted to help drive the community to discuss the skill as far as what to expect and how it might unfold itself to the community. Inventor is a particularly interesting choice for a skill to bring to the game. We now have player polls driving popular content on all levels of game development. We are just getting a taste for how the polls are developing. Roght now we can see that they are tentative and build on popular polling choices. Inventing new things for the game is an exciting prospect in regards to player polls because now players may have the chance to help "create" some awesome and inspiring inventions. If jagex were to start polling us on what kind of recipes for inventor we would like we would see some options such as: new weapons, convenience, traveling, and novelty items up there. Surely though many of our inventions will be community suggestions. But the key point is that the players are using their real-world ingenuity to create interesting inventions for the inventor skill. The reason why I feel this is the path of inventor is due to two major reasons: 1. Player suggestion is powerful 2. Player polls express community interest When I started looking watching the "Best of the Eight" BTS video I started getting a better look at things. One question to ask is how will information from the BTS set the standard? Well we were keyed in on several technology points: Cave goblin technology: thermal driven electricity, light bulbs and wiring. Dwarven technology: steam power, cog wheel, gunpowder Gnome technology: fly wheel, rube goldberg-like gadgets There may be other notable technologies that can be drawn from and included into the inventor scheme. One thing the BTS pointed our clearly is that there would be no industrial revolution like content. That would most likely include any kinds of inventions that would fine tune hand cannons into one-hit KOing guns. Those kinds of inventions aren't interesting and ingenuitive. Inventors and the Drawing Board The next section is something I'm interested in delving into because I feel the players will drive the inventor skill in so much as the developing perspective. Through player suggestion, alongside jagex development in initial content. inventor will take its form. I believe players will be able to create their own inventions from a wide variety of in game items. I also want to set the community discussion and suggestion standard for inventions. If you look at the game runescape has a somewhat serious tone, but at the same time it has many nods and references to worldly things. Runescape is also known for their humorous undertone. Secondly I feel that any invention suggestion has to have a purpose whether it be to make interesting combinations, give shortcuts or even have interesting or odd and humorous effects. For example one suggestion I feel might make it to the game is the transmute cube. Imagine a device that could hold a certain amount of items. Within this device you place an herb, a second ingredient and a water filled vial. You then close the box, select transmute and you now have a potion! Granted this time of transmute would be done with multiple potions. I began thinking of a format for posting suggestions and this is what I've come up with: So again another example of an invention would be this: Or how about a more humorous invention? Or how about something I know people would really like... Final Note Please keep in mind that these are suggestions. If you want any chance of them coming into game they cannot be game-breaking, overpowered or cause an economic strangle hold. Suggestions should be simple, to the point and not overly complex. I hope you all can come up with some crazy, fun and off the wall inventions! Let your ingenuity run wild. If we are lucky maybe developing jmods will find inspiration through us here on this topic! Good luck!
  2. Just sent leviathan ring scroll 4/4 at 92%. Pretty stoked, but I wish I had more pearl. I guess I'll be doing everything else with story voyage < pearl < scroll < koi scale < other trade good as priorities.
  3. Because we are dealing with an "inventing" skill I think jagex could literally create and run this skill off of player made suggestions. Oh heck they could run player polls on popular player suggested inventions.
  4. Here is a couple good examples of where they could be going... Teleport tab cube Cost: 12 rune glue, 1 teleport tab each, law staff and use of the alchemy box. Alchemy box Cost: 200 rune glue, 4 gold leaf, 4 mystic fire battlestaff, 1 nature staff, 4 magic logs Begins with 100 charges. Used to combine items into more potent items. Can be recharged by charging it with divination energy. Dragonfire handcannon Cost: Dwarven handcannon, dragon lump, dragon shard, dragon slice, 5 swamp lizards, 50 nature runes and use of the alchemy box. Creates a level 80 two-handed ranged weapon using handcannon shot. Basically just hairbrained concoctions that are very interesting, very cool and intriguing to game play.
  5. I think its funny we are discussing stances again. I remember bringing them up a while ago... I really hope they are implemented.
  6. If by configurator you mean mine, then I am going to update it, I've just been busy.... And that would be the guy I was refering to! Hey Veiva, I'm glad you confirmed it for others.
  7. Yup about 2 months in and the inkling that this could be coded to immensely help players came to mind. The right players just happened to be on the old POP topic to see the call to arms. That was probably the guy who coded yours.
  8. Q I am very disappointed in you. After watching the BTS recently posted about the elf city vs inventor that you didn't feel A spark of inginuity to creating inventor concepts...that or you simply didn't watch it. If that's the case GO WATCH IT. They kind of set a standard for what we might see.
  9. Just sent 3/4 leviathan ring scroll at 89%. I can't wait to have this ring for tanking. Since I bought both t90 melee/mage kites i feel that this is more necessary for tanking in the future. Ijust need to buy me a virtus wand so i have a viable piece for mage tanking.
  10. tip.it it has one i think, but it wont be updated for a bit i think.
  11. Wait I don't think it was the finale. It was the single adventure reward which originally rewarded 17 pearl and 7 spice. Also I'm 35/100 pearl and 2/4 scrolls for levi ring.
  12. My first stance suggestion months ago was open ended for players much like yours Sy so I agree with your suggestion. Knowing Jagex, though they will most likely opt for a trade-off outlook on stances where players sacrifice something to gain something else.
  13. Well in my minds eye I see there being more than one stance coming to the game over time. Right now I see that runescape needs something that favors roles. The core concept in my minds eye is something like: - Toggled ability similar to momentum - Constant passive effects - Locked-in effect that will only allow you to toggle on/off the stance every 30 seconds - hindering one combat value to bolster another (restricted to using defensive abilities while on defensive stance) I think once the player base sees something suitable brought to them they'll start wondering about what jagex could do for the pure DPSer. Then from there maybe they'll consider a similar way of making a stance for DPSers.
  14. I think your outlook is flawed. Using stance abilities can define your role as long as they aren't overly rigid in your game play. That is why I suggested the use of defensive abilities only when its active. Also if you don't want to bw locked into using a stance then run with using abilities without the stance. Stanves should be about 'holding your ground' a certain way and not about free range movement.
  15. Malevolent kite sold for mid price at 76.8m. Just need to get 40m for vengeful kite. I need to pay octarine off first for the lend to finish the sale. I thought about getting virtus wand, but that will have to wait. With ascensions jumping a good 55m they are well beyond my reach.
  16. What about the idea of using stance abilities like momentum. You can activate a "defender" ability like momentum to block 50% damage, but can only use autoattacks and other shield abilities.
  17. Yeah glancing blows would be ideal. I suggested something similar a while ago. Shields could have a 25% chance to take a glancing blow reducing the damage by 50%. Something to that effect would be interesting. The numbers could be changed, but the effect is good.
  18. I don't get how people can spend so much for a mage offhand. I am still dumbfounded by spending 100m+ for a t80 wand.
  19. Frankly the convoys are slow enough you can miss a node or so just to get within running range.
  20. I ended up getting the merciless kiteshield for 74m when its med price is 93m. I'm also looking to get another 15m to to buy the malevolent kiteshield.
  21. Just bought merciless shield for 73.8m when its GE value was 93.1m. Mid price put in for vengeful kiteshield and it wouldn't sell. I am 15m short of malevolent as well and wouldn't sell at 62m.
  22. Or maybe they are trying to keep all styles of combat viable - which they should be. I think all shields should carry a buff similar to the levi ring.
  23. Well if that's the case I think I'll stick with hunting convoys. Also a good tip for hunters is to use the world map and not the actual token map. You can watch for exactly where the convoys are at.
  24. Just got my single cook finale mission back. I got 25 pearls back after using a jade merchant and FOTS. So now I'm 29/100 peal and 2/4 scrolls from levi ring.
