Homosexuality isn't a choice, unless it's Christian Bale playing Batman :) I will go gay for Christian Bale

Yeah they can. Well I take that back, they can't anymore, now that the Supreme Court said so  \

After seeing a special tonight, I forgot one band that I should have mentioned outside of Nirvana: The Who.

I agree. I wasn't sure if it was her acting, or the replacement, or that Christian Bale was just too [bleep]ing sexy that I didn't care about her  (I have a man crush on Bale). I think it was mostly her acting, which when in comparison to Ledger and Bale, was very poor.

I just got back from the midnight showing on the east coast of the USA Alright, let me start by saying this: Heath was never really one of my favorite actors. Like, he was alright, but I wasn't one of his fans. Although I haven't seen him in much, I figured he was just hyped up because of his looks. NOW! If he doesn't win an Oscar for this performance, it will have been stolen from him. That was...wow...just flat out incredible. It was definitely one of the best movies I have seen in a long long time. I'm not sure who's Joker was better (Nicholson or Ledger), but I liked Ledger's better. Nicholson's was kind of classy, with funny quips. Ledger's was very psychotic, and had an air of "dark comedy" to him. I also liked Ledger's costume better. I won't throw in any spoilers even if I have tags, but let's just say, it will be a long while until I see a better movie than this from this genre.

Dear lord... After I posted I was thinking, "And the worst invention has got to be firearms."
-
My two suggestions are in the same vein. The written word might not count as an invention, but is definitely the next peak in human progress after learning to talk. The printing press is another unbelievably important development. Yeah I agree, written language. If not that, then I'd say Calculus

I shall be seeing it at the midnight showing tonight (Friday morning) \

Um, the Iraqi's want us out, and so does the government, so when is it "fixed"? When we say so? Sounds like if they want us out, that it's "fixed". Oh, and btw, you'd think that George Bush and John McCain were democrats with their latest positions in Iraq. I'm seeing "diplomacy", and more troops in Afghanistan, and now the US may conduct raids in Pakistan. There's one of two things that will happen: 1.) They will continue course until we get into war with Iran or 2.) They will follow with Obama's plans for Iraq, and make it look like that everything they did was ultimately a success. We begin to draw down, and claim victory just in time for another president to handle the mess, Bush will claim victory. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25699370/

It depends on the case, if I would want to partake or not. Quite frankly, I can't imagine anything worthwhile that would happen around here, that would stay in our local courts. Meh, law is interesting to me, and boring at the same time.

How does it go against me? I can locate it, and I know it exists. The fact that I am American really doesn't mean much to me. Check my Nationalism thread.

Lol, Ginger, Americans can't locate Zimbabwe on a globe, let alone care or know about what is going on there. I mean I could blame the media, because I can't remember the last time something that I would consider news worthy was on any major television station here, but really it trickles down from the public and what gives ratings. People here obviously couldn't care what goes on there, and I don't think our government does either, as their resources have practically been stripped bare. Nice generalization of Americans there. Oh yes since our president lacks a little less then normal brain power in some situations, that much mean ALL americans are dumb. Thanks for making yourself look like an arrogant ignorant R tard. I'd put money on it that 1 in 4 Americans, tops, wouldn't know Zimbabwe is a country, and I'd raise the stakes a bit that not even 5% could locate it on a map. It's a fact that Americans are horrible at Geography, so I don't see how this is such a farce.

Everyone could use a hug, there needs to be more hug giving. I completely welcome those hugs

Sniper, don't even mention Switzerland. They are monitored HEAVILY, and if the government finds one bullet outside of its casing when it comes time to meet up for training/duty, you will be in jail for a long long time. America no longer has a militia, and John Paul Stevens and I, see the second Amendment as obsolete in our current America as we have a standing army. It needs to be repealed so there is no longer a debate about its interpretation anymore.

I still see no evidence that properly explains why gays should not be able to adopt. I did, however, find two studies that show reasons why conservatives shouldn't be allowed to adopt :P http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/rele ... /block.pdf http://wam.umd.edu/~hannahk/bulletin.pdf If you want to disallow gays from adopting, I want to disallow conservatives from adopting.

Ginger, I do believe that there would have been a chance at Britain losing the war, but man this overinflated idea that we were the saviors of the world is preposterous. Isn't it ironic that Russia teaches their students that THEY won the war for the world? This doesn't even have anything to do with Cold War jargon...Russia played just as big a role in the defeat of the Axis as the US did. They even lost more men. In short, I agree with you overall.

This post is so full of win.

Statistically speaking, guns owned for "protection" more often kill innocent people in accidental shootings than they do criminals. I don't buy this self-defense jargon one bit.
-
I personally wouldn't be able to fire a gun under any circumstance if a human being or an animal was on the other end of the barrel. So your question is kind of meaningless to me...although I'm speaking from my mind that's not set into "emergency" mode... However, when it comes to this answer, I will quote Tenzin Gyatso: You edited: yes they are.
-
So how do you propose people defend their property? Especially people in rural areas where it can take a long time for the police to get there. If your possessions mean so much to you that you're willing to kill another human-being over them, I'd say that they're the owner of you. I also just said that you could shoot someone without killing them, but most people have this obsession with retribution rather than exhibiting compassion, and are blood thirsty savage beasts just wanting to pull their trigger over and over in the name of "self-defense".
-
It's a barbaric and ancient philosophy that you should have the right to protect your property at the expense of someone else's life. I do not believe in guns, but the gun culture in America is so ingrained that I don't see them leaving. However, people have been abusive of their 2nd amendment...even though (imo, as well as many on the Supreme Court Justices') it was never meant to be taken for what it is today. No one comes in to kill your family randomly except for maybe Charles Manson. People come in to jack your [cabbage], and need to kill witnesses. Besides, you don't need to shoot and kill like so many in this country do. Many would kill over theft, and many have, because many seek vengeance. That's the problem with our gun culture, it goes beyond "protecting myself and my family". It has been disgustingly transfigured into the means to be a vigilante. edit: article I found today...wow, a church :wall: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/07/1 ... -giveaway/

Look, ultimately, I do not condone her not telling her parents (ultimately). After discussing this, however, I looked into the State laws that make it illegal to not contact your parents, and there are clauses in which the child could appeal this, and get the abortion regardless of what their parents say. My final position is that parental notification/consent laws are fine as long as there's a clause or alternative LEGAL avenue where the young woman can seek to obtain a legal abortion if: a) the parents refuse to give consent, B) the parents are not mentally capable of being entrusted with the decision. Point b is rather extreme and those parents shouldn't be parenting in the first place, but there are plenty of cases. It just gets hard then because if the parents aren't willing to give consent, why make them knowledgeable in the first place? (not my argument, just saying so for the sake of it). I don't condone the child keeping this a secret from their parents, but at the same time the option of abortion still needs to be on the table. If my sister got pregnant, there's no chance my mom would allow her to abort if she wanted to. All and all, if there is a way for the child to get the abortion through legal methods, regardless of parental consent, then I don't mind parents being contacted.
