  1. I know it's already higher than most current nations, but seeing as quite a few of my territories have rapidly growing economies (or had, in 2008), perhaps it could be higher. Considering Taiwan's current GDP is $400b and growing (and that's just Taiwan), an $80b growth over 50 years doesn't seem...right...
  2. Cool. And cooler. (yep, you got Nepal right) I'll work on the Pacific islands later (do you only have the Solomon Islands, or did you take any others?), as well as a few other minor fixes I suppose. I think I messed up when calculating my GDP, mainly with the growth rates. Is there a good way to estimate future GDP growth rates, or should I simply gradually decrease it (or increase, if reasonable?) every few years? Building schools, hospitals and roads all over Nepal and Bhutan, even in the remote mountainous areas. I'm not conscripting any males from those areas yet, but instead strongly recommending them to help with these projects. (for which they're paid, by the way - huzzah, opening up new jobs and lowering the unemployment rate) I'm trying to grow a focus on education in those countries, hoping to boost literacy rates to at least 80% (only 50-60% now). Also sending some technicians to look into ways to work on internet and cell phone services. It seems like the people of Bhutan were already extremely happy (in reality, some sources say they're in the top 10% of the world :-s ), so I'm more or less letting them live their old lives. As for Samoa and Tonga, my main goal right now is to improve tourism. People love tropical islands... I don't feel like calculating my exact army, both for privacy reasons and because I'm too lazy. I'm conscripting in Samoa, Tonga and Brunei, and will start in Nepal and Bhutan once I get that infrastructure set up. Conscription is following the same format it does in Taiwan.
  3. CALCULATIONS ARE FUN (I'm assuming we're in 2050 now. If not, close enough. And I'm rounding some numbers - some up, some down) Taiwan: -Population: 30 million (projected is 20 million, which is a decrease, which wouldn't be the case due to my awesome health care and the fact that very few people are moving out of the country) -GDP: $450b Bhutan: -Population: 1 million -GDP: $1.6b Nepal: -Population: 46 million -GDP: $2b Brunei: -Population: 650,000 -GDP: $25b Tonga: -Population: 180,000 -GDP: $500m Samoa: -Population: 400,000 -GDP: $900m TOTAL: -Population: 78,530,000 -GDP: $480b Too tired after all that math to figure out how to improve the conditions in my new territories. Brunei is doing great, Samoa and Tonga are doing alright, though Bhutan and Nepal definitely need some work...which is what I'll be spending most of my money on, I guess. If I did my math right (probably not), I have about $15m to spend on projects. :?
  4. dungeonal, did we agree to open borders? (can't remember what happened when I first asked for trade/OB/alliance/something) If not, can we? My troops shouldn't be a threat, you can guard that area (Sikkim, I think) with a ton of your troops or some futuristic defense system for all I care. I've taken Nepal, nonetheless. The battle of Kathmandu was short, although bloodier than I expected. Lost about 3,000 troops on my side, they've lost up to 7,000. Anyway, they've surrendered, et cetera, Nepal is now mine, yay. This puts my current territory at: -Taiwan -Bhutan -Nepal -Brunei -Tonga -Samoa So if any of you want to take the challenge of updating the map (which was last posted like 20 pages ago  ), that's what I have. Also made that list so it'll help when I calculate some stats later. I'd update the map myself, but seeing as how badly I failed last time I tried, and I'm kind of busy now, sorry.
  5. I was working on it, but gave up once all those Pacific islands gave me a headache. And so what's going on with India? I think I'll just hide while you guys have fun with your hallucination war.
  6. [cabbage] I just messed it up in my latest try. I kind of wish you could name your saves, so I know which one to go back to when I want to try again (I'll just finish the rest of the game, might as well...and I don't feel like playing the chapter I just finished again).
  7. Perhaps we can eve become super awesome island buddies. (well, obvious India, Nepal and Bhutan aren't islands, but you get the picture) Alright, so like I said, 50,000 of my troops basically appeared out of nowhere and prepared to assault Kathmandu from the north. And with this new open borders agreement with rocco, 100,000 more are coming from the east. For now, the Nepalese army has pulled together about 40,000 troops (they have an army of nearly 100,000, who would've guessed?) to defend their capital, and most likely the rest are either defending the borders or coming in soon. If my reinforcements arrive first, Nepal should fall within a year. I also sent diplomats to Tonga and Samoa a few years back, both have succumbed. And if I'm looking at the map correctly, after the United States was disbanded, no one claimed neither Hawaii nor the northern Mariana islands - heading for those two next. Please don't whine about me expanding too quickly - these are tiny islands (with little or no army, if an invasion is required) we're talking about. Grim, hope you read this in time - did you ever take Singapore? If not, I'm sending diplomats. Oh my, yes. I'm trying to take another tiny country. I'll practice being neutral in this hypothetical war. Maybe I'll even supply the bad shrimps. I'll also update the map a bit.
  8. As was I! Kind of. Not really. But just showing how this won't work at all. So Nepal is facing an attack from where they never expected one from - the Himalayas to the north. They're scrambling troops to help defend their capital, Kathmandu, which at least 50,000 of my troops are making a move on.
  9. That's actually part of China, Hainan if I remember correctly. One of those things I always wanted to point out but always forgot to. See what Latino wants first, I guess. And I'm fine with not getting part of India.
  10. I laughed too. Apparently the school I go to is one of the top 10 public ones in the state. And it's not horrible, but it really isn't that great...(I believe the schools were judged on performance on the SATs and APs) If we're talking about private/magnet/whatever schools, okay, sure, I suppose Massachusetts has some pretty nice ones. And unfortunately I never really got to experience the Taiwanese school system, so I can't accurately compare Massachusett's education system to anywhere else's, but I fail to see how my school is notably "good" educationally. As for the actual topic, I start school on Sep 8, and 10-12th grades arrive at 11:20, so I have no clue if we're going to get in on this at all. Even though we're ridiculously liberal, probably not.
  11. No one wanted it. I actually offered it to Malaysia (or someone), but they didn't end up taking it. And then I reclaimed it before Japan started to show interest in it. Also, when I "quit", I also had the Philippines and most of Indonesia, which as you can see I gave up. As opposed to here, with India, where like 6 different people want part of it.
  12. Not telling you off, or making you add more money but the cost of researching the shuttle in real life, along with building it was 156 billion or so. But it doesn't matter, whatever you've put into it is fine. Yea, I read somewhere it was a lot more, but that simply sounded ridiculous to me. My explanation would be that since other countries already have shuttles, research would take much, much less time and money, and I'm using approximately the numbers I gave for the building and launch costs. As for India, being inactive should not make them invincible. And by inactive I don't mean being on vacation or something, but simply choosing to not post). I don't know if the rules are already like this, since I think the last invasion of India was only called off because of Germania sending troops. Nothing against you Adrenal, if you ever see this. I was successful in my diplomatic talks with Brunei, they'll be joining me in about a year. Samoa and Tonga are being a bit more resistant, but we're still trying.
  13. That looks good (actually got more than I wanted  ). Of course, we need everyone involved to approve - and if I'm looking at it correctly, it looks like Delhi/New Delhi are in Dusty's region, so he better be happy. :) I'm Taiwan by the way, I used to have the flag I'm using in my avatar so I didn't bother putting anything in my sig, but I might go do that now.
  14. Because I'm sure someone would whine about how I'm being unfair if I said I built it for $2 billion or something. You guys can give me a reasonable price, I don't really know much in this area. I'll go with $7b for now, my economy is good enough. I say we divide India. Something like Aether gets everything west of a certain point, Sri Lanka gets everything along a certain coast, China gets that part between modern-day Pakistan and China, I get the little bit between Nepal and Bhutan, and Dusty can have the rest for all I care.
  15. That's actually pretty close. It should be "blue moon" (like in my avvy), and I intended for it to be red sky (or something, I can't remember), but heavens is close enough. Last part is "silent but deadly." Told you, it doesn't make sense. :P So what's going on with India? I think it's kind of unfair you can gain such a large country just like that, but then, that's what happened with the Holy Empire and China. We're starting to sneak our troops through the Himalayas from Bhutan to Nepal (through India or something). Although I'm sure I'll lose some men this way, detection (aside from the fact that I'm broadcasting it to you guys) is nearly impossible. And we have lift-off. 6 astronauts have been sent on a shuttle to Mars. It's your basic shuttle, nothing fancy, cost about $7 billion. (that better be reasonable. It carries 6 freaking people, not 10000, and it doesn't travel at the speed of light or anything. NASA says the latest space shuttle cost $1.7 billion, $540 million to launch, although I'm assuming that's just building, which is why I added the additional cost for research)
  16. Oh wait, was it deathdrow? Haha, what? The second line doesn't make much sense, though of course, it does mean something...
  17. Alright, blue-gray is good. It's like the color of the sea, when rain-bearing clouds are bearing down on it - something that you can see from Taiwan a lot. I haven't taken Nepal yet, but if you meant Bhutan, I have some sort of deal with the Holy Empire. Or at least I think I do. Latino hasn't objected so it should be fine. If not, then I flew them in - yea, Bhutan is heavily mountainous and all, but so is Taiwan so my pilots were trained for that kind of thing. (Yes, I know you can't carry too many troops that way. I didn't send that many, so gradually sending them in wouldn't take that long) As for the fact that I'm sending 200,000 additional troops to help take Nepal, I'm assuming that Latino is fine with me sending troops through his empire, since they're not attacking him and show no signs of hostility. If not...then forget I said anything. ;) And can someone answer me as to who owns Bangladesh?
  18. Except, of course, Taiwan is left off. I went ahead and added Switzerland to Paul's land (Bulgaria), though not the flag. I also don't know what font you guys are using and Paint was being stupid to me (and I didn't feel like opening up Photoshop). Shouldn't be a problem though. I also just realized I forgot to label my lands, whoops... [hide=][/hide] And I might somehow add Bhutan's flag to mine, seeing as their now part of my republic.
  19. Nepal doesn't border Burma. And I was attacking it. As for my flag, this will do for now: Sorry about the size. :wall: (I'll make it smaller myself if you want me to)
  20. Yay islands. :) Speaking of islands, I know you were looking into some of the Pacific ones, dungeonal, and I can't remember which ones you wanted, but I don't think you mentioned Samoa or Tonga - I've sent diplomats aboard navy ships to them. Also sent some to Brunei. And who owns Bangladesh again? Tell me if I'm being too eager in my expansion. Most of the countries I'm looking at are rather small, in either land or population, so I hope it's not too unreasonable (and they're not officially part of my republic yet, still negotiating...) Kirby, which country do you mean? I actually think that's part of China or India, something went wrong with the map.
  21. Maybe we should handle this like the Congress of Vienna, if Adrenal doesn't respond, or agrees to give up control. My first batch of troops have been put on halt as they await the rest of the force I sent to meet up with them.
  22. I guess I'll invade India as well. Kind of. Instead of pulling those troops home, I'm sending 10000 of them (instead of 8000) through that small piece of India that divides Bhutan and Nepal. As the people there witness what is happening to the rest of their nation, I'm sure they'll surrender easily. If not, I doubt the Indians can get enough troops there in time to put up a fight. (hope you guys who are also attacking India don't mind if I take this tiny piece of land - I only want it so once I take Nepal, it won't be separated from Bhutan/the rest of my "empire") I'm also sending 200,000 more troops through southern China and Bhutan to assist them, as well as to attack Nepal. And thanks Dusty, for finally getting me on the map correctly. :
  23. What the hell? I'm not Burma (politically correct name is Myanmar too, I think). I'm Taiwan. And now I have Bhutan. Don't ignore mah posts. :(
  24. Adrenal. He's hibernating or something. (He said he still wants control over it, even though he doesn't post :| ) Anyway. Bhutan fell easily. Sent 10000 soldiers, adept at mountain climbing, through southern China (hope you didn't mind my little parade, Latino), and 1000 through India (they're ninjas). Surrounded from both sides, and by larger forces than they could summon, the government gave in. There were very, very few losses - perhaps 50 at most, on both sides combined. I'll let the people live the lives they used to live for now, as I figure out what improvements I could make. I've called 8000 of my troops home though, leaving 3000 there to help train the Bhutanese soldiers, and for defense.
  25. Taiwan is being played by penguin_geek I think. He posts sporadically(sp). Yep, and I posted on the last page. :?
