  1. I had a Steakhouse Burger from BK the other day and I think it was 950 calories. I'm not sure what I would have. Maybe nothing.
  2. You do. But Malaysia already had a ruler (not a "human ruler", but it wasn't in anarchy or anything) before you took control. Of course, you can't simply overthrow an already established ruler just like that. And since I was in the process of attacking Malaysia when you claimed it, we overthrew the old government together, and you established your rule. Of course, no leader wants that to happen to his country. Indonesia already saw the beginning stages, as their half of Borneo already rebelled...An attack, especially by a powerful army, such as mine, would easily be the nail in the coffin. [hide=Map of East Asia]August 1, 6:25 PM EST (GMT -5) Too lazy to make a color coded key on the map itself, but here: Blue = Taiwan Red = Japan Green = Malaysia Purple = Korea Black = What remains of Indonesia Yellow = "China" The stripes in western New Guinea don't indicate a fight, but I put them there simply because it's technically mine, but I'm offering it to Japan and I'm awaiting a reply. I'm also too lazy to color in all the islands, but I'm sure you get the picture. [/hide]
  3. Suriname has been under control of Brazil for over 5 years. How did holland, with 15 million people and a 50,000 man antiquated army, take over indonesia which has 230million people and a 400,000++ army. I say indonesia wins. Plus they would fight you a lot harder considering they gained their independence from you 60 years ago, and would not want to become part of your country again. Plus I already have part of Indonesia. This is what I meant when I said you must provide a valid reason and method for taking controls of other countries. You can't simply state that another country is now your colony. Assuming that Holland has not taken Indonesia, talks with their ruler have finished. Under the condition that Indonesia supplies me with 500,000 bbl/d of oil, I will allow the Indonesian ruler to maintain control of Sumatra and Java. It may sound like a ridiculous deal, but after he saw what happened with Borneo, both with his possessions and with Malaysia, he abdicated. The rest of the islands are now more or less mine, though I offer Western New Guinea to the Japanese, as they already control Papua New Guinea. As for Singapore, it remains an independent state, but a close ally and trading partner. Though I am receiving oil from Indonesia, I'm continuing construction of those wind farms and hydro-power plants I brought up a few years ago. They should be finished in a year or two, providing power for 20% of the island. Plans for similar plants in the Philippines are being created. Isolationism continues. Though I'd like to announce that a hovercraft ferry should be running between Taiwan and Luzon by the end of next year.

Heh, I look at this thread for the first time in forever and someone is talking about me. Yeah, your birthday is the 23rd right? Sort of sucks my 21st birthday is on the first day of college for me. The day after that is probably going to suck hard. :) Yep. And oh, you're only 6 years older. Brilliant. Thankfully high schools here in Massachusetts usually start in early September, so there's about a week between my birthday and the first day of school. I just woke up, it's 2 PM here. I went to sleep at like 3:30, because I was talking with some of my friends who were at a birthday party, which I left early to go to youth group. Some guys there were talking about Aion. :P
  5. The Boston aquarium is pretty cool too. I've been there quite a few times. If you're ever in Brookline/Boston (not sure which), you absolutely HAVE to go to Eagle's Deli. Take a look at the menu. A "Kiddie Burger" is a quarter-pounder. :P
  6. ThurinEthir replied to nerdattack16's topic in Off-Topic
Well, there is fried rice in Asia, but I must admit it's different than the "fried rice" in the west (and I imagine in Australia/New Zealand too). Chopsticks are cool. At my house, it's easier to find chopsticks than it is to find a fork/spoon, so if I'm too lazy to go look, I'll just use chopsticks.

I think one day between my birthday and Nadril's is interesting enough. Except he's like 8 years older than me. That's okay.
  8. Good for you. Any expansions? Download Rhye's and Fall of Civilization (it's a mod) anyway. :P

 If you honestly couldn't tell, I'm not seriously using that emote. I'm a Chinese liberal Christian. Have fun figuring that one out.
  10. ThurinEthir replied to Leoo's topic in Off-Topic
But we're so awesome. You, me, Nadril. (Late) August > everyone else. (I'm assuming that's what you meant. Dunno when you guys start in Texas, maybe not late August, but August nonetheless)
  11. What the, I just had a weird moment - thought L0rd was Adrenal. :? Oh, and for you Bloons lovers, try Bloons Insanity. Played it earlier at my friend's house, only beat a few levels. :x
  12. Wait, wasn't the rule that you could claim someone's second country? In Latios's case, this would be SK, allowing grimdeath to take it... But okay, Malaysia, sure. The combined forces of Taiwan and Singapore have liberated Malaysia from it's previous government. Trekking through the forests of Borneo was no easy task, but at last, my troops reached the city of Kota Kinabalu. As they laid siege to this city, a rebellion began in Kuching, the largest city on Borneo, and the capital of one of the Malaysian regions there. Meanwhile, a force of 50,000 soldiers was sent to western Malaysia to aid the Singaporeans, and have taken Kuala Lumpur. The loss of their capital, this new uprising, and the numerous military defeats have led the ruler of Malaysia to surrender, and with my help, grimdeath has established his new government. The hard work of the Taiwanese soldiers is not without reward, though. Talks with Singapore continue about joining my "empire." Brunei, long-time enemy of Malaysia, has gladly seen them defeated, and relations (trade) between our nations has improved. The Indonesian part of Borneo has already flipped to be under my rule, though the Indonesia ruler is not happy about this - yet he's also afraid of facing the same result Malaysia faced. Negotiations begin. Due to the weakened state of China, I am dissolving my alliance with India (which does not seem to be very active, nonetheless), and entering a period of isolationism. Internally, not much. The usage of cars has rapidly decreased, as public transportation systems have been established in all major cities, in both Taiwan and the Philippines. Research and construction on hovercrafts is being done, to improve transportation between all the islands I control. (To make it clear - I now control Taiwan, the Philippines, and the Indonesia part of Borneo)
  13. It may have been obvious, it may not. The Taiwanese ships approaching Borneo were given the order to seize the island by whatever means necessary. I realize that since I have been a big proponent of peace in the past, this kind of makes me a hypocrite, but I felt this was necessary as my close allies, Singapore, has been in a dispute with Malaysia, and the Indonesian people of this island have ties with my people, as significant portions of both are originally from Fuzhou. As for Brunei, we will see what happens. Thus, my fleet peacefully docked in southern Borneo, which belongs to Indonesia. Battle still rages on in the northern region, which is Malaysian, and I do not have time right now, and most likely will not for a few months, to update the rest of the world on the situation. (To be honest, this is one of the few reasons I'm still playing - I love typing up battle stories)
  14. I would love to join in on this space-mission-thingy. I can send some scientists, there seem to be an abundance of those in my lands. I'm getting mixed numbers for what my research budget is - remind me to hire better officials. Anyway, it appears that I've spent up to $10 billion USD in the past on R&D. (Plus what I get now from the Philippines) From this, I'd be willing to spare $2 billion. (...Is that sensible number...?) Enjoy. The rest of the research money is mainly being put into biotechnology, nanotechnology and robotics (intelligent technology). There may be robots wandering the streets of Taipei in a few years... I have no interest in African colonies, though I will continue to fund the spread of important vaccines. (Assuming we still have these, and that they weren't destroyed along with Hawaii) And in light of the recent events in China, I've sent diplomats to Hong Kong and Fuzhou, Fujian. A few aircraft carriers have been built (my people sure manufacture fast - ever notice how there are quite a few things "Made in Taiwan"?), and have been sent after the portion of my navy which headed to Borneo. Of course, they're carrying bombers and stealth jets and awesome airplane fighter things.
  15. I think you missed part of Rocco's empire, I'm pretty sure he has Libya as well, and maybe Algeria. I have no clue what I did to earn the thanks, but no problem? Taiwan is home to some of the world's greatest young mathematicians. (It's...true...) Some of them have begun attempting to divide by 0. This may prove disastrous.

Construction of aircraft carriers has begun, with all the new workers and materials I've gained.
  17. So my navy reached the island of Luzon a few months ago. Now given the green light, they've gained control of the island, mainly by peaceful means, though the threat of attack appears to have fully convinced the president to join my cause. Most of my army/navy is now island-hopping, bringing all 7000 islands under my rule. This should take a year or two. Meanwhile, a section of the navy (presumably carrying soldiers) has begun to approach the island of Borneo... Internal affairs aren't extremely interesting. Some of my officials have been sent to the Philippines to oversee the improvements that are occurring there, mainly in some of the less populated islands. Air force bases are being constructed almost everywhere, to improve mobility.
  18. I would love to start a trade agreement with you, but my only concern is the tropical fruit. Taiwan and Finland are quite far away and have a huge climate difference. Assuming the fruit gets all the way to my country, how well will it keep in a subarctic country? I have no doubt my people will enjoy such exotic food, but it will likely be ruined at some point. We could get around this by backing up the trade with cash. As in if the fruit is ruined or anything you would back it up with a similar value in money. I would do the same if something happened to the oil on the way to Taiwan. Tropical fruit for oil? If such a deal were to happen in real life... Would you prefer high-mountain tea? I'm sure that could do fine in subarctic climates. It just has to be cultivated up on my mountains. Uh...Yeah. Let's back our trade up with cash. :uhh: So apparently I was allowed to check my Blackberry or something on my flight, so I've been updated on this meeting. My thoughts: I don't have uranium. :( Though should I gain control of poorer countries in southeast Asia, I would attempt to spread these vaccines. My military is mainly there as a defense force. And I'm only spending 2.2% of my GDP on it. Alliances are important to any country. I'm actually kind of surprised no one has tried setting up a UN-type thing. War between countries with leaders would be rather confusing and complicated. I would say avoid it, though that could get rather boring. Leave room for rebellion though. If a seizing of a region involves battles, it should take multiple days - depending on the countries involved. (If, let's say, the US invaded Mexico, it would take longer than if India invaded Nepal) I would lift the 1-country rule tomorrow. After that, if people want to join in, and want to take an already claimed country, they can fight a resistance war, or something like that. If a human-controlled nation would like to take another nation, they must give plausible reasons and methods for taking it. No "Okay, I'm China right now, I'm also going to take Burundi, Ghana and Romania." Nations with inactive leaders would fall into a state of chaos, perhaps even into civil war. It would be up to other nations to instill peace, if they wish. And can I just say that I don't think this will last very long? Don't expect it to last longer than two weeks. And I'd still say that's a stretch. So perhaps increase the pace?
  19. TROPICAL FRUIT. Though I'm still importing large amounts of oil (at rather high prices, I must say), I've decided to begin installing hydro-electric plants along the major rivers, and wind farms on the plains. (With all these typhoons, I'm sure these will get a lot of use) However, I'm not generating nearly enough energy to power everyone, so I'm still relying quite a bit on coal and oil. I've restarted the mining of domestic coal (especially with the newly discovered mines), so I should be fine there, but oil... Public transportation systems are being improved and expanded. A HSR train now runs from Taipei to Kenting down the west coast, and also from Taipei to Taitung in the east. Subways in Taipei and Kaohsiung are being expanded even further, and many, many public buses now run through all other major cities. Citizens are strongly urged to use these systems, bike, or walk, but if not, it is recommended that they use motorscooters, which are already rather popular. Can I get a response as to whether or not I can conquer/colonize/vassalize nearby islands? A fleet of ships has left my port in Tainan, headed southeast for the Philippines (the island of Luzon). I am not at liberty to reveal their full orders, though I will say that they are to communicate with the Filipino president first.
  20. Wait what? Didn't we say no nukes...? And of course I'm not willing to ally with Japan (due to the fact that I would then be allied with China), but due to the proximity of our nations, as well as the fact that you were once our masters, I would be willing to listen if you should like to trade. That's kind of what I meant with the CivIV diplomatic chart. An example can be found here. It's basically the same thing. Updates from Taiwan: -A new species of deadly poisonous snakes has been found in the mountains near Hualien. Doctors are expirementing with the venom as of now. -Coal mines have been discovered. (I'm not pulling this out of nowhere, there actually are a few coal mines in Taiwan...) -Time to look upwards. The military is working on the air force, which seems to be our weakest branch. And scientists have begun researching towards space exploration - given a big jump of a start from our Indian allies. (I...hope...) -I've boarded a flight headed for New York (not really), arrival in about 24 hours. Looks like I'll make the end of this meeting.
  21. PBP, I'll give you 250 pencil sharpeners. In exchange for some penguins for the local zoo. (If you really wanted to know, there are penguins at the Taipei Zoo, and EVERYONE loves them...) I don't need pencil sharpeners any more, as Taiwanese engineers have invented pencils that sharpen themselves. Amazing, isn't it? (Also, most people don't even write any more - 14.76 million have access to the internet, and I believe there is cell phone service just about everywhere on the island) Am I allowed to take parts of Indonesia? There are over a hundred thousand Indonesians in my country, and Indonesia isn't in great shape - certainly some of the islands could be brought under my rule, mainly by peaceful means? (If not, can I at least have Singapore? Relations between our countries have always been pretty good) By the way, I'm spending only 2.2% of my GDP on my military. I'm considering making a diplomatic chart, as per CivIV for this. :P
  22. Adrenal, things aren't looking too good for us... But would you be alright with calling us SAC? Southern Asian Coalition, of course, nothing about genitals or anything. (Or SAP. Southern Asian Powers) It's also to confuse everyone. SAR, SAC, same thing, right? Wrong. Mage_man (...and Ray?), I invite you to join us. Though Australia isn't part of Asia, our three nations can look to control everything south of China, and east of India. This means trade routes, by the way - of course we have airplanes now, but still, I'm sure quite a lot of trade goes through that area. I'm kind of shocked that no one has claimed Iran yet. It hasn't even been brought up, has it? Edit: I'm off for the day. It'd be awesome if someone could summarize the events of the past 6-12 hours periodically, by the way, though I don't know if anyone would be up to it. Just something simple, like what Doom gave Riku on page 14 (I think).
  23. Confusion sets in... Do you mean I can't more than one by as in: I can't have both Austria and Switzerland, or I can only have Italy? You can only have Italy for now. I believe soon enough, we'll be allowed to unleash our armies, claiming the unclaimed land. Then you can take Austria and Switzerland, assuming no one else takes them. Meol, I simply don't want to see you at the other end of a battlefield, and would much rather have you beside me, especially since we seemed to have similar ideals. But now that you have your EC (took long enough for something to happen in Europe...), I'll let you be. We'll let this play out and see what happens, I suppose.
  24. I think most of the old alliances have been broken. Definitely the UN. Of course, you can simply try to recreate those alliances.
  25. I have a taller building. Tropical fruit. \ Not really an alliance, I suppose...More of a defensive pact. Should either China or SAR attempt to extend beyond boundaries we feel right, to the extent that either of us (or India) is greatly threatened, the others will join in any resulting conflict, and supply arms as needed. (Keep in mind that Spain does currently not have an army that could match the forces of any other claimed nation - although if you managed to get all of the EU on your side, I suppose your combined forces would suffice) And tropical fruit will be included. (How about you offer some terms? Anything you especially want?)
