  1. [hide=] Yeah, well it's kids like Josh that force school districts to take the good food from vending machines. No, its over bearing [developmentally delayed] school boards that do. And sorry to say, but schools really shouldn't have junk food in their vending machines. They also shouldn't have water for obvious reasons. ...why not water? Because from the fountains, its free. $1.25 min. for bottled water absurd. With bottled water it's not disgusting. P.S. Water at my machine is like 50 cents. [/hide] There are two working water fountains at my school, and one of them barely works. This is a school of 2000-2500 people I'm talking about, not some small school with 100 or so kids. Bottled water is also more convenient, do you really want to leave the classroom whenever you're thirsty? Anyway, I bring my own water from home. And this is getting quite off-topic.
  2. It's a lot worse when you get older. Missing classes means you have to make up all the work. It really sucks. ...You know, I'm your age... I don't know about you, but the people I know who skip generally don't plan on making up the work. Whether it's because they choose to skip, or because they're suspended.
  3. I'd say desire/greed. Not only do we sometimes make ourselves miserable just so we can get something, but we also feel miserable when we don't get what we want. However, desire/greed would be the greatest cause of human happiness as well. I don't think there's anything that makes anyone happier than success of any kind. [/pseudophilosophy]
  4. dang cussing out a teacher is an automatic suspension at my school Detention is worse than suspension. I don't even understand why suspension is considered a punishment. Especially if it's for skipping. "Oh, you skipped class, so we're going to make you skip even more class." Brilliant, eh?

Not for me. :( Starting from today, until next Friday, I have a test/quiz every day. And then comes review week. And then finals. And then I'm done. Eh, at least I don't have real homework. My sister's AP Physics class, of course, took the AP test a few weeks ago. Since then, they've been building boats - actual boats that can fit two people. So today, they took them to the school pool, and raced them. Pretty awesome. Speaking of boats, today happens to be the Dragonboat Festival thingy. Yay.
  6. If you can get a few other friends (your friends, his friends, whatever), why not decide to go to a park/field and play something? I hate giving into peer pressure, but if it weren't for my friends, I probably would never exercise. Except they all insist on going to the middle school field to play sports every time we don't have school. So I decide, why not, I'll join them. Even if I suck at it (which is most of the time), at least I'm there, at least I sort of exercise...ish... To be honest, there are so many physical activities out there, there must be at least one he enjoys. Of course he'd be much more willing to do something he enjoys.
  7. It's actually Renaissance-time period. I can't remember what they were called, but I think it started with A. Indulgences? A major reason for the Protestant Reformation, if I remember correctly.
  8. The pictures themselves are usually great, often funny, but the captions generally ruin them. Especially if it's something ridiculously obvious. Or if the picture contains text, and the caption says just about the exact same thing. Like in Racheya's. (I just basically said what Lenin said, didn't I?)

Does New England get out late or what...? June 23rd for me. The fact that I know what summer camp you're talking about is kind of creepy. Anyway. The first two weeks after I get out will probably be taken up by missions/service projects with my church. Then I have absolutely no idea what I'll do. My sister is going to be a freshman in college next year, so we're staying around the whole summer. I'll have a lot of free time, so I'll probably run/swim more often. I tried learning Python last year, but failed, so maybe I'll try again this year. Or maybe move on to another language. Maybe I'll just spend my days gaming. Oh, and my birthday is in late August. It's always nice, though it means school's about to start up. At least I won't be the little immature freshman this time.
  10. I was surprised it took so long for someone to say this. Unless you're at some intense middle school, or unless your teacher really hates you...Really? I would still question a 59%, but 38%? REALLY? WITH SETH AND AMY? Okay, enough of that. I'm sure you have your excuses. I highly doubt you'll get held back in middle school. Even in high school, I'm pretty sure they would only make you retake the subjects you're failing.
  11. My middle school was 8:10 (?) to 2:35, except for Tuesdays, when we ended at 1:50. My high school ends at different times. Always starts at 7:50 (though no one actually gets there until 8:00), ends at 2:20 on Mondays and Fridays, 2:35 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 2:55 on Wednesdays. Stupid Wednesdays.

From what I remember they were really good books. Really interesting, I dont remember if the series is over though. :? One of the posters that I passed said that the final book was released just recently (May 5th). And thanks for the review, they definitely sound very interesting. I'm looking forward to reading them :) DO IT. I started reading them when the first one came out (I was in 5th or 6th grade, I'm in 9th now). I've always liked Greek mythology, so I naturally liked the series as well. The last one did just come out, but I've been reading The Silmarillion as well so I haven't had a chance to finish it yet. The only thing is that they're aimed for a younger audience, but that means it's an easy read, which is always nice. I think I'm going to go with 1984, Animal Farm, Brave New World and the like this summer. Though I'm pretty sure I'll have a ton of free time, and if they're anything like what I've heard, I'll be done pretty quickly...Who knows.
  13. In elementary and maybe middle school, maybe. But high school? No. Like Warri0r said, part of it is learning how things work in the real world. (Not like I know how it does work out there) At my school, most teachers give half credit for one day late (or one class late, since not every class meets every day), and no credit after that. Plagiarizing and cheating are generally automatic 0s. That is, with exceptions. Anything major is usually done case-by-case.

My last class was canceled, so I was wandering the halls looking for my English teacher so I could meet with him. Since it was the end of the day and I was pretty exhausted, I was walking somewhat slowly, all over the place. I saw my physics teacher behind me though, so I moved to the side to let him pass. We exchanged greetings, like usual. Then he asked me if I wanted to play Rock Band. What. I said no though, since I was kind of occupied. Though I still got to leave school early, and I think I found out where they were playing. :P (My physics teacher is an awesome guy. Pretty young, kind of into gaming, likes to blow things up, and he used to live in Australia. Which reminds me, his assistant was teaching us yesterday, when he ran in and asked "WHERE'S THE ROCKET LAUNCHER?" ) They were building rockets in the seniors honors class. No one was running around with RPGs or anything. ;)
  15. [bleep]. I can't stand sudden-death. :? Edit: And that is [bleep]ing why. Go Pens? You know what? I'm going to be a [bleep] about it anyway. 1. The 'Canes maybe shouldn't even have made it to that series. That controversial goal against the Devils? Eh. 2. Walker shouldn't have been in that game. Honestly, that punch against Ward deserves a suspension...Sure, someone else might have scored, but who knows. I'm just a sore loser. Ignore me.
  16. It might not be very healthy, but yea, I like fast food, for the most part. I don't feel sick or anything after eating it, I'm not even full after a Big Mac or a Whopper. Eh. I don't know what this topic is about anymore. (I don't think anyone ever did?)

They did say free, but I think that might be referring to the gameplay. As in you can do just about anything you want. Unless that's what you meant too. Sure sounds a lot like Darkfall, sure looks a lot better. I'm in the same boat (insert your jokes here) as Lent, if it indeed is F2P, of course I'm going to check it out. And I was in the computer lab at school today, and I swear someone was on the official website for this. :-s I don't want to de-rail this topic (take it to PM if you want), but Skatedog, if you still play, I thought you might like to know I've picked up Combat Arms again. ;)
  18. Jason [bleep] Bay. .379 batting average, 4 home runs, 9 runs (maybe 10 by the end of the day), 14 RBI, 3 doubles and a stolen base this week. Including a double just a few minutes ago to drive Ortiz in, putting the Sox ahead in the bottom of the 8th. That double also broke the tie in my match-up on MLB.com, although I would've won the tiebreaker nonetheless. Either way, I move up to 5-0. (Those Mets are pretty hot too, 7 in a row?) And yea, I lol'd at Manny. #-o Edit: Yeaaaaaaah Papelbon.
  19. My sister told me half the brass section in the school band is high whenever they practice. And they aren't that bad. :?
  20. I've lost hope in the Bruins. Unless they can pull an '04 Sox, looks like the season is over. :|

[Directed to the posts about that book with the blurgh cover] Obviously, different people have different tastes. Even with terrible writing, there will still be people who like it. (Ahem...Twilight :P ) The Lord of the Rings is also a good example. Most people either love it or hate it. Tolkien's thick detail either ensnares the reader, or makes the reader have no idea what is going on. I don't know if it seems like it, but I don't mean to say that those of you who don't like LotR are stupid or anything. I might think lower of you, but to each his own. ;) So yea. Of course I love Tolkien. I also finished The Sword of Truth series a few weeks ago. I only started because of a thread on this forum, by the way. Anyway, they weren't amazing, but not terrible. A good read if you have some spare time, I guess, although the books are very long. So now I've re-read Ender's Game, and now am halfway through Ender's Shadow. (Which I didn't read when I first read Ender's Game/Speaker For the Dead/Xenocide/Children of the Mind) Good stuff. For school, right now I'm reading Oliver Twist. Some good ole [bleep]ens. I've read a ton of Shakespeare this year (and for the record, my teacher assigns the most books in the school), though that means I've missed out on some of the "classics", like Of Mice and Men and The Catcher in the Rye. Like usual, most people hate them, but I'd say that's because of all the analyzing, so I've decided I'll probably give them a go this summer. Speaking of which, I love summer reading. Last year, I went out and got Epic and the first four Ranger's Apprentice books (once again, not awesome, and probably aimed for younger ages), and ended up staying until 3 AM the next few days. Enough ranting. I'm off to bed to read. Oh [cabbage], that was so cheesy...
  22. Any news whether he used when he was with the Sox? It's probably been told somewhere, I haven't really looked though. ...So how about that 12 run inning against the Indians? Batting around the order without a single out?
  23. Ian Kinsler. Like I said, that guy is...Amazing. And he's a second baseman. I used to play 2B. ;) You can make the other team lose points in baseball now? Huh? Your team was doing better in 9 of the stats. Then my team did much better in the last few days, well enough that you weren't leading in some of those stats anymore. That's why your score went down. Assuming that's what you meant. If you meant that 5 of your runs disappeared, then that's...Weird.
  24. Ian Kinsler. Like I said, that guy is...Amazing. And he's a second baseman. I used to play 2B. ;)
  25. What was that? For those of you who haven't been tracking the match-up between me and Riku (which probably is all of you), before yesterday, he was ahead 8-1. (And like he said, he was up 9-0 earlier this week) However, I ended up coming back and finished it at 4-4. And thus keeping Riku from being first in the league. : I'm also the last undefeated team in my league on Mlb.com. Barely won this past week though, I was down by one point before Ian Kinsler was awesome again.
