  1. I'll probably end up getting used to it, like I did when TIF switched to Phpbb3 (or something). That was pretty confusing. This is even more confusing though. Apparently we have some new emoticons. (well, at least they look a bit different, though the old ones are still there) Time to go poke around and see if I can find anything cool. Edit: Bah, first thing I don't like - I'm pretty sure it doesn't tell you if someone replies between when you start typing your post and when you submit it. :( Though the way the URL works for topics might prove to be very useful.
  2. Let's see if I can reply correctly. We managed to get 60 pages during that "brief" time that the old forums were back up? Wow. I'll reveal my picks for race(s) later on. And repost the newest maps, please.

Apparently Confucius had a nice saying, "No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance." I liked Animal Farm, by the way. And my dad dug out his books on the day I wrote my post. Strange.
  4. Oooh, on that subject: teachers (or even kids) using whiteboard pens/markers on a smartboard (interactive whiteboard). They are for compuuuuters you idiots! We got it a lot at secondary, not so much at college. Drove me up the wall  Well congratz you get smart boards. We still have whiteboards. And we still have blackboards. Though we get a new building next year. Watch that have blackboards...

TNT is pretty good, but USA is better. But USA doesn't show four awesome movies in a row. (technically 5, since they're playing 300 twice in a row for some reason...) I like the TV shows on USA better though, I guess. Used to watch Monk and Psych a lot.

I love TNT. Four of my favorite movies in a row. Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers, Return of the King, and 300. Too bad I have a history paper due tomorrow. :wall:
  7. Who owns Alpha? I guess I'll look into space colonization again. Any NWO members mind if I use some of their stuff? (technology, launching equipment, etc. - I'll use my own money if needed though)

At the beginning of this past summer I went shopping for some books to read. I got Animal Farm, 1984, and Brave New World. My dad came home that day, looked at the new pile of books I had on my desk, and said "Oh, I love these books. I have them. Somewhere." Though I didn't end up reading them over the summer. I read The Lord of the Rings. (hehehehehe) Though I finished Animal Farm last night. (I'll go with 1984 next)
  9. It was a joke at my school for a while, and not the cereal either. (though of course not the kid either, although if I remember correctly we actually do live kind of close to each other) It was the drug. We have to take a survey every other year, concerning drugs, alcohol, sex and those kind of things. One of the questions this past year was "How many times in the past year have you used [insert actual drug name here] (Special K) in the past 30 days?" Yes, I can't remember the actual drug name. But it was amusing. I can't think of any other jokes or fads that most of the school is in on, partially because I probably wouldn't be in that "most", and partially because it's too big of a school and all the little cliques and groups have their own things. Although the way my school was designed is that there's a long hallway, stretching across the second floor (which most people consider the first floor, and the first floor is the basement), from one entrance to the other. It's perfectly straight, no turns or anything. We call it Main Street, don't think anything like that exists at most schools. Between my friends and I, most of our jokes involve making fun of stupid things that we say or typos we make.
  10. Only 2 minutes!? what has the world come to *checks sig* For a colorblind guy I guess that would be pretty good. Depends on the degree and way he's colorblind though. I had an awesome history ("social studies") teacher in 7th grade. He was a huge guy, and he loved Sparta (this was before 300 the movie came out, though he had the graphic novel). On occasion he would dress up as a hoplite, with the spear, shield and armor. All fairly realistic too. My math teacher last year was pretty cool too. He didn't care what went on, and he played music at intervals during class, and yet was able to make most of his students understand what he was talking about. On the last day of school, he told us his life story. Supposedly he was kicked out of high school for smoking pot, ended up traveling around the country with hippies, bought a stolen motorcycle, and worked on a farm picking oranges. Both his parents were also extremely rich. There was more to the story, which I can't remember, though I know he's a seventh generation Beethoven student. Studied with a guy who studied with a guy who studied with a guy who studied with a guy who studied with a guy who studied with a guy who studied with Beethoven. There are more awesome teachers I've had, but those two stand out.
  11. I'd prefer talk like a ninja day. Hell, all the idiots who do it would shut up, which be awesome.
  12. I thought it was the wall of dusty! :ohnoes: hehe No real update from me. 90% of my army is being kept in the reserve force, and I probably wouldn't use most of them in a war unless drastically needed. So my economy won't collapse. At least it shouldn't.
  13. I'll harbor any Kazakhs who wish to escape whatever is going on in their country. Is that peaceful enough? :)
  14. It's completely feasible if you have dwarves working on it, and are building it out of mithril and steel. And if you have cave trolls operate the gate.
  15. Heh, I'm building fortresses along the Himalayas and the mountains of Taiwan, somewhat reminiscent of Helm's Deep/the Hornburg. So I've got some primitive versions of the turrets up, they're alright. They can be automated or remote controlled. Ammo is of course limited, but there is a cache attached for it to automatically reload when needed. Right now it only works with (sub-)machine guns and assault rifles, though we're also looking to see if we can get some models with sniper rifles or RPGs up. They're more or less like the ones in Half Life, except bigger. And to help prevent them from easily being knocked over, they can easily be stuck into the ground, into the dirt. So yea, they're really only for defensive measures. I have no clue how much they cost. Anyone want to give me a number on Lancelots, drones or HAWs, and I can base it off that? I haven't thought it over too well, as you might be able to tell. I don't think it's too unreasonable (at least no more unreasonable than those other military techs I previously mentioned), and I did spend quite a few years researching them. And once I perfect them, they should be available to all NWO members. I honestly can't remember what else I was working on. Um...Nepal and Bhutan are coming along well, both simply the conditions and the training of the men there. And a lot of men who've completed the training have been put to work in helping to produce the weapons that they'll be equipped with if war should ever come to their land. Also, I'm boosting my navy though I don't know how to get into specifics there. Just know that if I ever REVEAL 200,000 TROOPS IN BERLIN, I'd have the ships needed to carry them.
  16. I'm sure the games are aimed at children whose parents won't let them get a cat/dog/tiger. Seriously there's actually some Ubisoft DS game called Tigerz. But I imagine they're good games for children who don't have pets. Hmmm.
  17. Haven't had a good debate in a while, this is kind of fun. Hope you don't mind us steering a bit off the road with your question, abc. I guess I have to agree that being alone can be terrible, though if you have full control of your life perhaps you might never face a situation in which it is. I have an older sister, so I've always been dragged along to her events - concerts, grade/class dinners (don't ask), etc. Since she's 3 years older than me, and most other people at those events were either her age or older, I never really had anyone to talk to or play with. Probably some of the most [bleep]ing boring times of my life, though I eventually learned to accept it and went into isolationist mode - y'know, sitting in the corner by myself and doing my own thing. So it's all situational and also dependent on the person and the potential friends in question. Zierro might have hit it on the dot, you don't want too many friends, and the friends that you do end up having should be good ones.
  18. I hit post and saw your reply to Wongtong. Then I decided to add that in. :wall: Well...duh? Not necessarily. I guess it depends on the person. Occasionally I simply want to get away from the world - I'll not log onto any IM services, though maybe I'll still check my e-mail and Facebook, and of course here, though I probably won't reply to anything. I talk at most with only my family, I stay in my house (I never do this when there's school). And that can make me feel a lot better than being completely online, keeping in touch and joking around with my friends. Don't know why but it does. I suppose doing this for only a few days is much, much different than doing it for just about my whole life, though you can definitely have human contact without having friends. Once again, depends on the person. For me, believe it or not, I prefer playing MMORPGs on my own. No parties, no guild. Of course this means I'm not fully efficient or whatever, but I like it that way. I'd also rather go running on my own than with friends, though that might be due to the fact that they're much faster than me. :P Another thing I usually do on my own is mope/grieve. Yea, I know friends are there especially for tough situations where you'd mope, but that's not the case for me I guess. It really depends on the person. I'm more anti-social and introverted than most people. Also rather self-conscious too.
  19. I'll start by saying that I don't think friends are a necessity. I didn't really have any real friends up until 7th or 8th grade, only had one or two play dates as a kid. And I was a pretty happy kid, according to my parents. Even now, when I do have a few good friends, I still don't think they're critical to survival. Though of course, there are the pros that come with them. Skull mentioned a few, such as being there to help cheer you up when you're down, and being there for you to copy off of when you forgot to do your homework. And they're simply fun to play with (oh, come on...). I mean, I had a blast playing solo games such as Portal and Half Life 2. But throw in a multiplayer aspect and I, among others, find games much, much more fun. And not just video games, (with exceptions) it's kind of hard to play sports by yourself. But of course, there are many things you can enjoy by yourself. I'd even argue that no, not everything is more fun with other people/friends. If you think you're fine without friends, I'd suppose you could be. It can't really hurt to have friends though - unless you think you'll miss them a lot, like that dude who posted a while back about how he cried for hours and hours during his last days of middle school or something. And then I'll leave you with this quote. I'm sure you can figure out where it's from. :P (don't know if you want to try to find some ridiculously deep message in it, but it just sounded like it'd fit) "A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day...This day we fight!"
  20. Yea, it's really not a big deal. I don't mind if we don't have natural disasters. Just thought it was weird how we went 50 years without a big one, like Katrina or the tsunami.
  21. Perhaps Romania? There was a thread about that on a different forum I use, which is full of history buffs. I think I saw Romania come up a few times. (and I believe Sweden if you don't want to count Napoleonic France) I'm kind of surprised at the lack of major natural disasters. Though with the knowledge we ended up gaining from Somalia's brilliant meteorologists, I suppose we were able to predict them all and avoid them perfectly.

We go by the order xkcd (or some other web comic) puts it. Physics first, since it's applied math. Then chem, since it's applied physics. Then bio, since that's applied chem. You can then choose in senior year - most people either don't take a science, or they take AP Chem (which is also offered to juniors, though so is AP Bio and some people only want one at a time), or AP Physics (or some other class which is). Thursdays are torture for me with my schedule since I have my 5 real classes (A-E block), including three long blocks (80 minutes long). Regular classes are 55 minutes. The material is easy enough (at least so far, though it's not like I can judge off 3 days of school), it's just a lot of work. We don't have honors classes for freshmen at my school, except for math. And we don't have honors Latin either. :| And Graphics is only a half year course for me, second semester it switches to Advanced Robotics (two blocks) and PE (two blocks - it's a class called Lifetime Activities, which means like golf and random other sports you can play when you're old that involve very little movement :P ).

Whee done. Sophomore schedule: A Block - Latin. It's a normal level class, yet the teacher - who's new, by the way, and her last name is Blood - gives more work than some of my honors classes do. B Block - Honors Math (for juniors). Awesome teacher. But I know less than half my classmates. And how many of them know me is an even better question. C Block - Honors Chem. There are a bunch of idiots in my class since physics last year was a joke and just about everyone got into honors chem. The teacher is funny and all, but he gives a lot of work too. (32 pages in our textbook was his idea of a short chapter for homework on the second day. Always fun.) D Block - Honors History. I didn't get the awesome, very experienced teacher I thought I had. Instead, I got some new lady who's only taught for like one year, and doesn't know anything about half the curriculum. And yet she's managed to give us a few pages of writing every day for homework. I don't have any extremely good friends in my class. :( E Block - Honors English. The only class I have with a good teacher and good classmates. Though there are only like 5 guys, in contrast to maybe 20 girls. The teacher is very, very good (my sister had him and said I'll learn a lot), though he's a pretty strict grader. F Block - Intro to Graphics. My class is full of [bleep]ing freshmen. (<--gotta love the alliteration) The teacher is really nice, and I might end up learning a thing or two, but I'm only taking it to fill my schedule. G Block - Study halls. They turn into free blocks second semester. Can't wait.

I live in a suburb which also happens to be a city. (it's literally just outside Boston, so it should count as a suburb, but it's officially classified as a city by the state government or whatever) It's alright. I can be the "nature-y, get away from the world" kind of guy, but I also like public transportation and how handy it is, especially for those of us who can't drive...
  25. Just poking in here. School is taking up a lot of my time (ahhhhh), so that explains why I haven't posted in a few days. I'll try to make a "detailed" summary every few days, or at least hopefully sometime this weekend. Though if you want a quick rundown right now, basically all I've been doing is boosting my defenses. Been working on those turrets, as well as fortresses/bunkers/shelters, and defensive missiles.
