  1. Just another illustration, if you take an unpopular world... Why aren't the tags working? Oh well, it's there.
  2. How will this change runescape? 1) No more PKing, obviously. 2) Trading will be limited, and because of the GE, eventually degraded to a means of giving away tinderboxes. 3) Nobody will have to worry about losing their stuff unless they want to. Essentially, any element of danger is eliminated. Jagex is transitioning, and screwing over the game in the process. At least when they made RS2, they kept RSC around for those who liked it. I would have liked a RS3, at least I could have stuck to my old game for awhile.
  3. Maybe Jagex should have talked about this in the updates, instead of acting like they're the best thing that ever happened to Runescape. A lot of people don't read the diaries. Jagex would have gotten a lot less flames if they had said this sort of thing in the updates, instead of... I don't know what the heck they were trying to do. Appealing to kids, I suppose.
  4. I hope this IS caused by the update and that Jagex does something about it. Dec 11 update: ctrl+z I'll keep checking the updates to see if I have reason to go back. Here's hoping. Well, goodnight tip.it and goodnight Runescape.
  5. You honestly think they're having a large impact? 300,000,000 peoples in US (completely ignoring other countries, which are a big part of RS) 200,000 usually online 300,000,000peoples/~200,000players = 1500 people per one RS player 500,000/1500 = ~300 people in that group. HUGE difference. This may have an impact, but there's obviously been a huge loss due to the sucky update.
  6. East LA is crime infested. US bombs the heck out of LA, killing millions. Lesser of two evils I suppose? Well, don't blame the government doing the genocide, blame those gangsters, it's OBVIOUSLY their fault.
  7. I don't why we should celebrate a number of minigames that barely come close to replacing the entire game element (like half the f2p world) we had before.
  8. I think Jagex knows that more people don't pvp as people who do, so it's more profitable to appeal to the non PvPers. The people who are criticizing are doing so because Jagex really doesn't care about us (they don't even try very hard to make it seem like they do). If they lose 1 million old vets and gain 1.5 million newbs, it's a plus. Old timers pay the same as newbs. Over time I'd come to feel a bond to Jagex, the guys who started out small, from almost nothing, and went big; and I got to be along for it, all while playing a fun game. No matter what way you look at it, Jagex basically [nail]ed over all the pkers, knowing there would be more newbs to take their place.
  9. I'm comparing the current RS to a gameboy game. It has about the same amount of inter-player interaction.
  10. (yet another "I hate the updates!" topic!) So I ask, what now is the difference between Runescape and a single player game (take pokemon, for instance)? You can run around, buy from the stores, train your skills and kill monsters. With specialized "game link" technology, you can even occasionally trade with friends! Don't worry though, you'll never get ripped off more than a petty amount. Also with "game link" technology, you can fight with your friends! Amazing!! Doing so in groups will be difficult, but we're working on ways to facilitate such super advanced features. So what is the difference between this and a single player game? 5 dollars a month I say.
  11. To Vincent: Maybe you haven't been playing for too long. I've played since RS1 on and off, and I've never complained (save the pure essence update). Now I am. In fact, I'm leaving Runescape. They've killed the game I know and love. I can't go wander the wilderness with my friends, trying to find a lonely soul to pk. We can't share rune armor. We can't give gifts. On the plus side, I'll never lose another item unless I go to the wilderness. On the downside, that completely ruins the aspect of danger in "dangerous" areas. I'm sure Jagex will do fine. Over time, they'll lose a lot of their old players, but they'll retain more new players. I would have preferred they make a RS3 so I could still enjoy my old game. Oh well. I'm done with RS. I'll stick around with the small hope that they'll fix things, but that is all but gone. :boohoo: Jagex has just showed that it IS about the money.
  12. yes, as infinitely rare as a reaper hood. :( I'm just bothered that Jagex caters to newbs in the way that they do.
  13. That's right. I collect spinach rolls. I cherish the randoms that supply them, I jump when some fool (or guy with not enough bank space) drops them. I also get them from friends. Furthermore, I buy them. I don't claim that they're rare. I recognize that they have value only in my eyes. Why then, must Jagex kill my hobby? My beloved passion? Selling spinach rolls is not that huge of a scamming problem. Nobody makes millions off a guy who wants a spinach roll. It's not a widespread scamming problem either. Anyone with any experience in Runescape will know of this scam, and anyone who falls for it will know better. Jagex has been increasingly pampering Runescape infants (and by that I mean people new to RS) at the cost of actual players. Now they've gone and killed entire aspects of game play, and to what? The benefit of a few dozen people's 10k? I would post on the Runescape forums, but I'm not a member, so I guess my opinion doesn't matter. In short, I collect spinach rolls, and I'm annoyed that Jagex has taken this away from me. Just wait until they ban cabbage trading. Edit: Mind your language please, assassin
  14. I disagree. Most people who are veteran f2pers (<18 yr. olds excluded) have already considered p2p, and decided they didn't want to for some reason, be it money, time or whatever. These people (like me) only want enough space to play f2p effectively; we're not gonna buy members when all we want is the space. It doesn't seem right (nor does it really make sense to me) to try and force us to pay for the full game just so we can play the free game. Too bad about D_V_Devnull, he was a good guy. :boohoo:
  15. People who whine after being team pked in a team pking zone. Multi Combat is there for the purpose of teams.
  16. While your concept is easier and more relaxed, it is not really better. Threads move to fast, so serious discussions don't really happen as they get bumped to the nth page in a matter of hours. Like you said, we all have lives and can't live on the forums. To use the forum where this has worked as an example... This sort of thing does not spread. The serious area is isolated, but it does not segregate the board at all. Most people active in the serious area are active elsewhere, often being the biggest goof balls the forum has. However, the serious area is sacred. No goofing off or anything. A lot of people choose not to go there, but if you want to have a serious discussion, it's always possible. One last time, I will present my points in the clearest way possible. 1. The mods are the sole decision makers on what is or is not idiocy. It is the job of admins to make sure their decisions are reasonable. As long as the appointed mods are reasonable, there will not be a great amount of problems. Some decisions will be controversial, but that is unavoidable. 2. This is a mere offset from the rest of the board. Also, because most people will not engage in this sort of discussion, at least not as many as do in other forums, the moderation load will be lighter and easier. 3. Nobody who is not a troll will get banned from posting poorly here. Most offenses get a heavy warning. Repeat offenses get short bans and more warnings. That should give them the message. 4. This may or may not work. I think it is worth a chance, though. 5. See? This is what I'm talking about. I wouldn't mind this in a general discussion forum. However, there is simply no place where this kind of thing isn't allowed. I think there should be one, and if somebody doesn't like it, they don't have to go there! 6. Exactly. Those kind of people will make the ideal mods for this board. While it may be a tough and long time consuming process, it's not impossible. I never said this has to be here tomorrow. Even if it takes months to find them, suitable people are there. 7. My final point. This IS possible. Problems can be worked on. Obstacles can be overcome. It's just a matter of working on it.
  17. People need to stop using this as a reason. Just because it has worked in other places, does not mean it will work here. We already have 'serious' discussion inside the separate forums. We don't need yet another board just so we can centralize these 'serious' threads. I did not say it WILL work, only that it CAN. I only ask for a chance. It's rather easy for you to say that. Finding suitable users for the job is a whole different story. Even Sithy's author reporting idea more than likely wouldn't fly very far for the same reasons user moderated threads wouldn't. The second an author disagrees with replys, he starts flooding the report system with opinion related reports and we're back to square one, a moderator controlled board, just like the rest. I seriously don't see the point in this. Why again can't you just report the idiots in a normal thread found in the proper category? I'm sure you would know, because you are a moderator here? I do not endorse Sithy's author idea for those reasons. Many posts don't break the rules elsewhere. The forum I suggested would have stricter rules. Then I would report all the idiots. If I did now, I'd get myself banned. Repeat posting is not against the rules. Intense idiocy and near illegibility is not against the rules. I think it should be, at least in one forum. The kind of reposting I'm talking about is where the second post is: "Well I think *blank*" Third post is: "Maybe if you *exactly the same blank as last time*" Fourth post is: "Great idea. Would be better if *the same blank once more* etc. Ninth post is: "You are so stupid idiot. This would never work unless you *yes, the very same thing everybody has already said. Bravo genius. =D> *"
  18. Not to be off topic, but what was '05's big update? I also have to say that I do not think of the SoS as an update so much as a big newb helper; part of a larger series of newb helper updates. Though it was nice of Jagex to make it fun for everybody. My prediction: A bigger members holiday event. Anyway, what I really want for Christmas (or '07 in general) is more bank space.
  19. Do you realize how much work/effort that would take on our part? :? As a moderator we already have a lot to do, try adding on a whole other forum and have to read every single post on every single thread, clean of the unnecessary or spammy posts day in and day out.. It's a lot of work. We have lives that we need to attend to as well :wall: 1.Where I have seen this work the topics were shorter and fewer, because the few people who did spam were given heavy warnings.(repeat offenders got temporary short bans) This meant that less time was required to moderate the few posts. 2. If you guys are stretched, I think you should just get a few more moderators. That's just my opinion though. That might work too.
  20. Your last post said exactly why this will never happen no matter what the forum rules are . It has absolutely little to do with the rules, the tolerance level , or the discussion subject, there will ALWAYS be somebody who doesn't agree and isn't mature enough to type a proper civilized reply. Humans suck at interacting with other humans, we always have and we always will. That is why the moderators would have a final say. The idea is for the moderators to read every post, and delete the clearly immature ones. I know we can't ALWAYS have mature people, that's why I want one mature area.
  21. I did not mean that. What I meant was that I had hoped that tip.it could choose mods appropriate for this type of moderation. That is, to acknowledge what is and is not actual "intelligent" discussion and make decisions likewise. If this was the case, the problem presented earlier: Would be solved, as the mods would be given the power of discretion. Something like that would get deleted. As for borderline cases, tip.it would have to choose moderators who would make the best decisions. Some would be controversial, but the mods would be counted on to do a generally good job. Al the little details and problems pointed out here would be worked out. Again, I've seen this work before, and it worked because the administration chose moderators who were well suited for the job. Sorry, I was not calling our staff unintelligent or foolish.
  22. Agreed Errdoth. I think what he's asking is to lock these threads because they're repetitive, cluttering, unhelpful (as Jagex, I'm sure, has people working for more than five minutes to obtain solutions) and just generally annoying. Whether or not they're good ideas, they have been thought of before, and are pretty useless ; I'm sure Jagex does not use this forum as their primary think tank of anti-macro ideas.
  23. What are you talking about? You didn't just read the first post, did you?
  24. Meh, I had hoped that tip.it could choose smart mods to make wise decisions regarding this forum. Guess it's not gonna happen.
