The Runar's DIY blog — OSRS ultimate ironman
Barrows extra loot week is over. I opened 56 chests in total; sadly I didn't get any more barrows items after chest #30. Anyway, here's what I got: Of course I used a ton of minds, chaoses and deaths for fire bolt and magic dart while doing it; I got much more of them than what is shown here. I have almost 67 magic now (59 when I started), and these runes are probably enough for 70+. Guess I could still train it a bit more :P I think I'll kill blue dragons or something else that has good drops. I would kill iron dragons but it's not really worth it without antifires, which I won't have for a while.

Full guthans would be nice, but I have the feeling that I'll get 68 summoning before that :D Anyway, 50 chests done... last 20 chests dry... -.- The event will tomorrow, but I've got five barrows items, thousands of runes (~8k minds, ~4k chaoses, ~2k bloods - deaths I've already used on magic dart) and 59-66 magic (probably 67 tomorrow), so even if I get no more items, this event wasn't certainly a loss for me. It was fun too :)

How many Hours will you play this Year?
At least he will have the leap day free then :P

I haven't gotten any barrows items in the last 18 chests, but luckily I still have two days left... I really, really hope that I'll get a visage :P But even if I don't get one, I now have a barrows melee helm, platebody and legs, so at least I'll have great melee armor ready once I reached 70 defence :)

So today I got myself some new mage gear from magic guild, using a mind bomb to get in. I got the fungal visor yesterday, looks quite nice :) Then I got 65 magic And then I used a mind bomb to enchant the dragonstone ring I had in my bank for quite a while. Maybe it helps at barrows, I haven't got any barrows items in the last 15 chests :(

A Very Barrows New Year
0 KC gets you Deaths, Bloods, Minds and coins. And of course Barrows pieces 1 KC makes racks a possible drop. I'm 100% sure that I've gotten bolt racks with 0 KC. Looks like you just have a higher chance of getting them with a higher KC; I get some every 3-4 trips on average, with either 0 or 1 KC depending on if I manage to open the puzzle door without killing a monster or not.

99 Farming - #5 - 2,000 Total
Nice job! I also started at level 50 after four and half years of playing with a goal of 57 for Ardougne tasks, but eventually got 99. Maples and papayas :P

I did Kennith's Concerns and Making History today and reached 200 QP ^_^ I also got level 60 constitution and magic while doing Barrows. No good rewards, sadly, just a ton of mind and chaos runes. At least they will be useful for magic training. Death runes would be nice though, I had to use fire bolt most of the time :(

Slayer as a combat skill?
But you need 80 slayer to wield it.

My Arm's Big Adventure, The Golem, Wanted! and Slug Menace are done! :) I did Troll Invasion today too I tried using magic dart in barrows. I managed to do it with only 2 doses of prayer potion this time, while I usually needed 2 whole potions previously. Didn't get any good rewards though, just runes and coins :( Oh well, I'm going to camp barrows for the whole week - assuming that this week is the extra loot week of course ^_^

Advice for new P2P?
(Almost) everything with repeatable rewards is good. For example: Tears of Guthix quest unlocks a minigame which gives exp in your lowest skill weekly. The quest itself is the shortest P2P quest, it takes just two minutes if you have the items ready. Throne of Miscellania quest unlocks another minigame, the above-mentioned Manage Thy Kingdom, which gives rewards, such as coal, fish or herbs daily. It's easily 100k-200k per day. Hand in the Sand quest allows you to get 84 free buckets of sand daily. That's around 20k per day at current prices. As mentioned before, quests are very useful to do, as many of them give useful rewards. Tasks are great too. I recommend doing Varrock tasks first, as the Varrock armour is very useful for mining and smelting and allows you to switch Varrock teleport to GE, which can be quite nice. Ardougne cloak can be useful for its stats. Fremennik tasks give more xp than others. There are two P2P skills I find more useful than others: slayer and farming. Slayer because it gives you access to monsters with great drops. Even at low levels you have monsters like banshees (lots of herbs and pure essence). It's also a good way of training combat. Farming because it's awesome profit at higher levels, and the best thing is that it doesn't stop you from doing something else. You can harvest your herbs and plant new seeds every hour and a half or so and get 100k+ profit every time. It's very slow to train, but well worth it. A good way to start is to do the quest Fairy Tale part 1, the experience reward gives you level 19. A few random things that may help: Make sure to pick up all the summoning charms you get from monsters. Summoning is very fast to train once you have charms, but collecting them takes time. Stealing Creation minigame gives you tools which give double experience for skills for a while. If you find the minigame fun, you can collect some tools there. Especially hammers are excellent, as they save you a ton of money when you train construction. Barbarian Assault minigame gives you a horn which gives you double exp in agility, mining and firemaking. The horn lasts for quite a while too (much longer than SC tools), so you may want to get it if you find those three skills boring. If you haven't done it yet, talk to Larry in Ardougne zoo. This allows you to search penguins for penguin points, which get you experience in a skill of your choice. Doing the Cold War quest allows you to get more points. Penguins reset weekly. I know the list's quite long, but you don't have to try everything right now. Just do whatever you find fun. I still recommend doing Throne of Miscellania as soon as you can; it can make you 1m per week and you can collect the rewards whenever you want.

Slayer as a combat skill?
That's an interesting idea actually... but as Killerred said, combat level doesn't matter in PvM.

Quests, quests and more quests! I also got 80 combat today :) Just five more levels until I can do Smoking Kills... I'm still thinking whether or not to repair the anchor, 230k is quite a lot of money for a DIY'er. It is a strong weapon, but I'm not sure if I really need it for anything... perhaps waterfiends in the future? :| Well anyway. I think I'll do Haunted Mine tomorrow for salve amulet and 22k str xp, and maybe One Small Favour soon for the xp lamps and because it's a requirement for several other quests.

Today I did Creature of Fenkenstrain and Garden of Tranquillity quests. I also did medium Fremennik tasks and used the 10k xp lamp on summoning, which got me level 40-42 :) I'm slowly training my attack and strength to level 65 so I can enter Warriors' Guild, and once I get there I'll get 60 defence from the cyclops while collecting defenders.

How does RSI influence Runescape for you?
I rarely play for more than an hour or so at once, so perhaps because of that I've never had any problems. If I do something which requires a lot of clicking (e.g. runecrafting), I prefer to play with a drawing tablet, which is more ergonomical, though maybe a little less accurate.
