Should the tradeable items of the past be taken out off rs?
Lord, how I love speculation. :D I've been of the opinion that Jagex holds some certain... discontentment... for rares in general for some time. Not exactly for "exploitation", as Shaz goes on about, but something similar to it. Otherwise, they would likely have gotten around to pumping the store value of rares by now, so that you wouldn't risk losing them if you whitescreen during a random. The later holiday items would likely be tradeable as well... What would happen if they continued to rise in price, to the point where they become unachievable to virtually anyone who doesn't already have one? Well, they would lose significance - nobody's going to chase a pipedream. Assuming they don't really want to support rares, Jagex would most likely consider that a good thing. The gong-show would finally be over, and people would find something else to do. In any case, what you suggest would actually be a move by Jagex to protect rares. That's not entirely unfeasible, seeing as rares still exist, but I do maintain some doubt. Okay, conspiracy theory time. Pure essence - suddenly, obscenely rich 2x nature crafters are forced to pass a larger portion of their profit down to the players mining essense, which has virtually no requirements. Construction - several kinds of logs, including oak (lv 15) and teak (lv 35) suddenly have a reasonable market. Skill capes - unidentified herbs, several kinds of seeds, dragonhides, raws as low as lobsters, bars as low as steel (and so on) have improved markets. The prices don't necessarily go out of control, but there are far more (rich) buyers. The punchline - is it possible that Jagex is trying to force a redistribution of the net wealth within the game, to discourage scamming/begging/newcomers quitting? If so, perhaps the effects on rares are, as I've suggested, a happy coincidence. I pretty much fully expect Duke_Freedom to come along and lay a verbal owning on me, heh. 2:30 AM will do that to you.

I can see that making sense, but I'm still a little unclear on the motivation here. Maybe I'm short-sighted, but I've never really seen rares as a "problem" to be fixed - is there a reason for Jagex to stabilize/defame rares, or is that simply a happy coincidence? Just curious.

F2p Mage Proposal *Read it now!* 105 supporters!!!!
"Smart and insane guy wearing purple all the time", was that not how you described yourself? Looking at blue mystic (I've never actually owned it, hehehe), I'm thinking the jump from blue wizard robes to blue mystic is pretty drastic. A price factor of about 100, and a bonus factor of 9. I'd definitely opt for something inbetween - ghostly robes would work, but there isn't much chance that desert treasure is going to become a non-member quest. :-w Thinking something like... apprentice gloves +3/+1 apprentice boots +2/+3 apprentice hat +3/+3 apprentice top +6/+5 apprentice bottom +4/+4 full apprentice +18/+16, req 30 magic and 10 defense, costs ~20k. Just to throw some numbers out there. Possibly add snare as well, seeing as bind is laughable. :-k

Macroers.
Yeah. Between dynamic IPs and dial-up, there's a reason why IP banning is considered a last resort. Effectively, you run the risk of banning legitimate users, while the offender obtains a "new" IP upon reconnecting. You could likely record the IPs which have been used by the offender, eventually identifying the ISP, but what resources this would require on a large scale, and how far ISPs would be willing to cooperate with Jagex, are beyond my knowledge. Mind you, none of this is particularly innovative. The fact that it hasn't been implemented yet in itself probably indicates that it won't work. Ever the pessimist.
-
Macroers.
That would work nicely, assuming that the autoers (and other rule breakers) don't have the capacity to spoof or reset their IP addresses. Which would be why that hasn't been implemented.

Hp calculator and farther than lvl 99?
That's mostly, but not entirely, true. Rewards from quests are exempt. As are Pest Control awards, as I recall. So is the xp gained from non-offensive spells, such as teleports, alchemy, and enchants as well, I believe. Possibly curse spells too, but you'll likely avoid those for any serious training over level 40 or so. Ah, and the cannon gives dwarfed Hp xp as well, if I'm not mistaken.

Pincode before you login
Don't kid yourself, a bank pin can and will be stolen by a sophisticated keylogger. The only reason that bank pins are effective right now is that cheaters still have some level of success with the less sophisticated keyloggers. By adding more of these irritating, time wasting passcodes, sophisticated keyloggers will become more necessary, therefore more popular, and as such this entire idea is self-destructive. :-s

New Skill : Tailoring
Wasn't tailoring intended to be in RSC? If so, I wouldn't be shocked to see it revived. Is there a reason why blue and black wizard armor isn't in there? Monk robes, priest robes? Desert robes? Maybe the special cloth used in construction?

Macroers.
macroers can do that too.Lemme just highlight this for those of you who weren't paying attention. There are already autofighting macroes. If you put aggressive, low level monsters all over the place, macroers will simply implement an autofighting script, leveling enough to bypass the danger. If macroers were forced to use no more than one account at a time, this would make a significant difference, but since most are not afraid to break the "multiple login" rule, all this would accomplish is a one-time setback for macroers. -.-
-
Pincode before you login
Harder? Sorry, I don't really see how. It would require a one-time addition (however lengthy) to the keylogger's code, and cause a neverending pain the the arse for players. :-s I'm getting a sneaking suspicion you know little to nothing about programming.

Skills Beyond 99
It's 605k to 68...how the hell would 13million exp only make you lv 99.... Exponential growth. Ask your math teacher. The reason I point that out, Striker6, is that you say "actually, it's such and such". See, 'actually', you're full of crap, because as useful as that approximation is, it still isn't perfect. I know, I'm a tightwad when it comes to numbers.

look st what ur friends r doing look inside!
This, from a person who has difficulty spelling "grammar", and fails to utilize capitalization? Holier than thou, you are! *rocks out* View through a friend's eyes? Meh...it could be made to work, but for the few situations where requests via private message aren't effective, your friend could just as easily make a little vid of himself, and upload it to youtube or something. That'd result in a lot less lag, and a lot less headache for certain well-known individuals. Not to mention people on my friends-list. :-w

Fix the crappy minimap
17 degrees. Give or take two more. So you're saying that while you're in the thick of battle, or pounding on metal bars to make armor, or mercilessly harpooning sharks, it's a problem that you can't differentiate between North and North-Northwest? If you've no actual suggestion aside from "fix it", perhaps try the rants forum. Personally, I think that having a slightly offset minimap gives the UI some (much needed) character.

New reportable offense.
I'm offended by the fact that you're offended by some incomprehensible garble. Can I report you now? Seriously, "offense" is such a loose, ambiguous term, that the addition of such a rule would increase the strain on customer support exponentially. That means there'd be one more kind of report that could result in inaccurate bans, and a great deal less chance that any given ban appeal would receive attention. Doesn't sound very promising. A better solution would be to shield your apparently fragile ego, so that it doesn't bother you anymore.

lking 4 hawt bf! lulz 226 names
Hahaha! :XD: You're trying to tell me that the judgemental words of someone on the other side of the planet, someone who you're extremely unlikely to recognize oustide of Runescape, is enough to ruin your day? Gah-damn, girl, you can deactivate 'eggshell skin' now. Honestly, your insecurity/sensitivity frightens me. Okay, there's no way in hell I'm supporting this, so if that's all you need to know, you can stop reading now. I'm interested to see exactly what it is that would make this activity reportable. Here's what I've gathered from your supporters: 1) It could potentially lead to item/password scamming - That's already reportable. Not to mention that there's only one way to learn about scams - the hard way - and it's better to figure out how scams work in a virtual game you can walk away from, as opposed to in reality. 2) It could potentially lead to censor evasion - That's already reportable as well. 3) They have no life - Considering that most of us actively play Runescape, and even more of us spend time on this forum, it's safe to say that anyone who says this is just exercising their right to be a judgemental nitwit. Why would no-lifing be reportable anyway? :-s 4) It's annoying - That's true. ...wait, hold the phone, it's annoying? Of all the many things that are annoying, you choose this one to be reportable? We have a working defense against this - the "ignore" function. Why don't we start by making the annoying things that can't be easily disabled/avoided (like pile jumping) reportable? No, I'm not serious. Being annoying is a poor reason for something to be reportable, because with the vast playerbase, people are annoyed by a wide variety of things - and of course a politically correct person like you would never dream of leaving anyone out, right? Right? For example, sensitive people (you :o ) are very often annoyed by insensitive people (me  ), and shockingly, the reverse is also true. Honor-PKers are often annoyed by Anything-goes-PKers, and again, the reverse is true. Some people are annoyed by 1337speek, some are annoyed by common English, and some are annoyed at being ignored altogether - see where this could be problematic? It's a can of worms that Jagex would be wise to avoid opening. Furthermore, considering that Jagex is already under constant scrutiny for having terrible customer support (visit the rants forum if you doubt me), I firmly believe that adding another source of reports is a bad idea. You can campaign for them to hire more staff, but until they do, the case-by-case differentiation you mention in your original post - as well as in your reply to Lord_Kain - is a pipedream. What I will support is the suggestion by Jaklumen to add a filter to the character generation page, simply because players wouldn't risk investing X number of months of effort, only to find themselves banned for an offensive name. Then again, I've been in support of that idea for a long time. Ever since a certain Tip.It Times article, which was later removed. And that's why Teutons are the best class in Travian.

Skills Beyond 99
Some random tests of that theory: 17(3115)/10(1154) = ~2.70 25(7842)/18(3523) = ~2.23 41(41171)/34(20224) = ~2.04 58(224466)/51(111945) = ~2.01 74(1096278)/67(547953) =~2.00 86(3597792)/79(1798808) = ~2.00 95(8771558)/88(4385776) = ~2.00 99(13034431)/92(6517253) = ~2.00 That's surprisingly accurate at higher levels, but don't forget that it's still an approximation. The "actual" formula is probably known only to Jagex.

Skills Beyond 99
Heh. Interested in some geeky stuff? Some time ago, I checked the rate of increase of experience needed to gain levels, and from level 80 up, the experience needed to gain the coming level is roughly 9.43% of the experience already gained. If I recall correctly, extrapolation of that data indicated that 129 would be the maximum level achievable before reaching the experience cap of 200 million xp - with level 130 being something like 202.3 million. Quite convenient, if you ask me - the +1 from the skillcapes would still mean quite a bit, as it would still complete the revolution of the ones counter. I pity the fellow who tries to get to level 129 in slayer. :ohnoes:

this is the rants forum, not the complaints forum
A handful of debate-types can generally turn a rant into a debate, so here's what I'm getting at: In theory, people don't post a rant if they want a debate. So, rather than jumping on a rant and trying to make something more out of it, I would advocate that we invite the author to post a revised version in the subforum, and failing that, quote the insightful bits in relevant debates. This discourages users from carrying that "impulse rant" tendency into the subforum, and will likely require less moderator attention. Not that I really expect all rants to remain unimpressive, but any duty that we can relieve the moderators of - even if it only works 50% of the time - is a good move in my books.

this is the rants forum, not the complaints forum
It is indeed! I scarcely think I can applaud your dedication to this near-dead topic enough. =D> Wait, simultaneously? That made me do a double-take, I thought they were separate options. Okay, here we go: [*:241h43fe]Revise the Rant forum description and guidelines to focus more on "rant and run" concept, not debating.Makes sense to me, if we're creating a subforum. Who needs two boards with the same focus? [*:241h43fe]Add "rant and run" sticky threads for the redundant one-liner topics. These would be clean slates for users to reply with their own rantings. Links to these threads would be listed in the new guidelines.I'm guessing that if you considered the updates and "noob" stickies to be failures, you wouldn't be proposing this. The theory here is good - a small input of effort which yields a far larger output of organization and cleanliness. If I wanted to say there's a problem with this, it'd be that there are a great deal of one-liner subjects, and nobody wants to wade through a great deal of stickies - make it general (catch as much crap as possible), make it concise (make it obvious what fits and what doesn't), pick out 4-5 of the worst offenders and sticky 'em. Advocate that, and I'm in. [*:241h43fe]Create a "Debate Club" subforum and accompanying rules for the hard core debaters. Can we have the old storage room for our club? [*:241h43fe]Initially, I don't envision a minimum post count to see how it is used in conjunction with the revamped Rant forum. In theory, the fly-by ranters can take care of what they need to vent on the main rant forum. If needed, we can add permission requirements later. The implications of a "rant board" and a "debate board" are quite different. I can't imagine a drive-by ranter getting confused about which is for what, so I doubt requirements would be necessary. Rare cases can be solved with a "wrong forum" report. The only thing I'm worried about is the state of the main rant forum - it could stabilize, or it could deteriorate into a place for trolls to hang out. Mind you, that's as much a weakness of the posters as a weakness of the forum, if not moreso. Heavy trollers are not immune to banning, and I imagine some warning on the subject could be placed in the Rant Guide just so there is no room to complain... For the record, I think it's wisest if we encourage the debate types to initiate their own debate on any given subject, as opposed to trying to get a rant on that subject moved to the subforum. If a rant happens to be particularly insightful, we can make good use of the "quote" and "private message" buttons - again, the difference between the main forum and sub-forum is clear enough that we can expect users to pick the one which fits their desires, no matter how insightful they might happen to be. Overall a very sensible idea.

Black (g) & (t) Robes!!! W/ Pics!!!
Since when is prayer a non-combat skill? Seriously, go train a dozen levels of it or so and see if your combat level rises. Of course, that's irrelevant, because dark wizards do not wear priest robes in the first place - they wear black robes with black skirts. If it makes sense to have black, addy and rune (g), as well as green d-hide and studded leather (g), I don't see where blue robes and black robes (g) is so inconsistent. Oh, and my prediction from a few posts earlier was accurate.

Compliance. Minimal surgery. Yeah, yeah, the background isn't that great - I couldn't find anything better within Runescape. Come to think of it, I'm probably going to wonder why I posted something that half-[wagon]ed when I wake up. I'm so tired...I'm going to bed...

*right-clicks neogeo0823's signature, selects "properties"* *notes the URL* http://www.uzzisoft.com/randomsigscript/neogeo0823.jpeg Hm, I wonder... I actually like it, mind you. Especially the one where you've got that - er, elemental helm on. :P Uhm...ooh, one of the clan boards has a subforum. Maybe that'd be a viable option for what we've been discussing? [/spam]

this is the rants forum, not the complaints forum
Precisely. I'll grin and bear whatever the administrators deem the best option, but the consequences are real. Frivolous decisions are not recommended. A little healthy skepticism would do us well. Logic or no, like Zubeedoo was shooting for earlier, it's practicality and efficiency that matter. Humans haven't been known for their logic in the past. Have you ever opened a piece of junk mail, realized that you're looking at the back of the item, and had that little nagging sensation of disinterest? Ever bought a bag of potato chips without reading the net weight, only to realize later that it's half full of air? Isn't it funny how such minor efforts influence our actions? A new user, in order to reap the benefits of an archive board, would have to notice the index sticky, read the intro blurb to the sticky, scan the sticky for topics similar to their would-be rant, click the appropriate link, and then spend a good bit of time reading what others have to say on the subject. Translation: we're going to be filtering some individuals out, some of which may not belong to that group we call, "idiots". So, two questions there. 1) Is that an acceptable loss? 2) How much of the eyesore we are currently dealing with can be attributed to the individuals that would still be filtered out by this change? In other words, how much is this really going to help? Questions I alone cannot answer. We're coming full circle, some fresh blood around here would be really helpful. Pfeh. Classic Beavis and Butthead, and I get nothing, but a quick "Bow-Chick-A-Bow-Wow" would've had you rolling. No class, I tell ya, no class at all.

this is the rants forum, not the complaints forum
I'm not quite sure I could call it "original". Like neogeo0823's "T.U.F.W. on f2p vs. p2p", threads I would like to think of as "original" have long since evaporated. That's more or less the idea, though. In fact, the AoW is what brought about the idea. That's where the AoW got me thinking. Threads there don't die too bloody fast, so couldn't an "archive" board lengthen the lifespan of these threads? I'll concede popular and long debated topics, as those definitely have a place in the little space I've dreamt up, but a word of caution regarding "any really good rant": the more we remove good writing from the rants board, the more we risk reducing it to the "diseased hulk" board. If such a line is to be drawn, it must not be drawn lightly. Which relates to the whole concept. Like Gidion hinted at so long ago, before we get too entrenched in this 'separate board' thinking, some consideration to the strain this would/could put on the Tip.it Team wouldn't be out of place. Having these 'debate' threads (whether stickied or not) could get to be something of an eyesore, but is the creation of another board really what's necessary to reduce the clutter? Is it worth it? Huh-huh. Hey, Beavith. I'm h****. We need a chick. [/guilty pleasure]

this is the rants forum, not the complaints forum
I'm not advocating a series of locked stickes. I'm advocating a single "Index" sticky. One which, for each item on that list of "dead topics" (those that are worthy of debate, anyway), would point to related threads hosted by an "archive" type board, where those dead topics could remain open for debate by the newer generation. Whether we accomplish this through Trojan_Zebra's 'perpetually cleaned threads', or neogeo0823's 'weekly tip.it rant', or something different altogether, is an entirely different question... and heck, that's assuming that this is a plausible option in the first place. Two, if you count the "new updates" sticky. There are still a few rants on hunting, mind you. I suppose the question is, how many more would there be without Jaklumen's sticky? :-k
