  1. I thought of an interesting strategy. If anyone ends up with low prestige, and needs money, try this. Or just do it if you want to. Make your society very militaristic, and willing to fight. This will probably have to be done over a few decades. After that, you can raise an army for a low price, much lower than anyone else. You can become a mercenary country, where you charge a rate higher than what you pay for each soldier to let another country use them, but lower than what they would pay. They can equip them with better tech if they feel like it. This would be perfect for China right now, I'd say. Except there aren't any huge wars going on. Also, taxes will be raised to 10% over the next reset period, hitting that point just before reset.
  2. What I'm saying though is that Fusion itself, regardless of the cost is still going to take a long ass time to complete, and the free research would probably be better spent on other things. Unless Archi disagrees, I guess. In any case, Spain begins construction of quite a few new reactors, though specifics are yet to be made public.
  3. Gotcha. I just personally think that there are better investments of that time than fusion, since fusion is still quite a ways off.
  4. Which country are you? Fusion isn't realistically gonna be too useful for probably a century, so I wouldn't. I think I've found a pretty good solution.
  5. Does anyone have research in nanofibers and all going now? How much are people generally investing in research out of their IAD?
  6. Righto, I have spain then. @Archi, PM I sent applies still. Only more Spanish.
  7. Ouch, how'd that happen in China? Yeah, South America seems to be in chaos right now from what I read.
  8. Can someone give me a short summary of world happenings? EDIT: reading the past few pages, it seems Italy may be taken? If that's the case, switch me over to Spain.
  9. Italia joins the modern world.
  10. Possible solution? Or atleast an idea. Technology is leveled, ie: Wind Energy level I, II, III etc. Going up a level takes a certain amount of time, and once the required amount of time has passed, you solve a puzzle to advance. That would represent "breakthroughs". The puzzles would get harder and harder as the levels go on, to the point that they are utterly ridiculous to solve, and might lead to stand stills/end of research in certain fields once they reach certain levels. If you get a breakthrough in a certain field, you will be able to give other people the answer to the puzzle if you want, though other people can still solve the puzzle to increase their research. Five/ten units of time (days/years/months or whatever we play by) after a breakthrough has been reached, the answer will become common knowledge/people will no longer need to solve that puzzle and can advance to the next level based on time only. This would insure that the best puzzle solvers have an edge, but not a huge one. Example: Player A,B,C research radar technology. They all started at the same time. Player B figures out the puzzle, but neither A nor C can, and so they cannot advance. Five/Ten years later, the breakthrough becomes common knowledge, and everyone can now advance without needing to solve a puzzle.
  11. I also think that to make the game more interesting, as research goes on players should do "press releases" about their technology along the lines of "Altranian Lab announced today that their latest research into transdifferential quantum particles has yielded unprecedented results, it was found that the TDQ particles will do bla bla bla" and if players keep technology secret for a long time, their people will get pissed off once they finally do reveal it. This is so wars don't end up being : Nukarania sends 20,000 troops to mexistan Mexistan deploys it's secret flying laser boats, killing 10,000 troops Nukarania responds by unveiling it's secret nanotech cold fusion rail gun IN SPACE Or atleast have something to add a bit more rp to the game, and to make it so people just don't keep all their technology secret and have secret weapons everywhere and all that.
  12. So it'd people controlling a certain number of colonists on a newly colonized planet, and we each form our own civilizations/cities/countries, or work together and whatnot? A cool idea would is we get a map of the planet, but we don't know the specifics of the terrain (ie: mountains, desert, forest, etc) so exploration is important. I would definitely play. The only thing is I think that we need to make it player controlled enough that people have stuff to do when the mod isn't around or doing a session. People should be able to build their city, manage resources etc. all on their own, and the mod/other people will stop them if they do something wrong. The mod should be needed though for things like exploration, war, etc.
  13. I figure it's been quite some time without a real hegemony going. I'm gonna atleast write up a quick idea behind it, it couldn't hurt.
  14. I don't have 30$ to put down right now, since it's no longer on sale so I'll have to wait on that one. Plus I like games set in the 1900s-2000s better than futuristic or colonial/industrial games. I'll look into it though.
  15. So I've been gone a long time. I definitely should have kept in better touch, but I didn't really have a secure computer for a while, plus an abundance of personal issues I won't bother all of you with. Anyways, I'm not gonna be terribly active I don't think, but would anyone be interested in playing some version of a Hegemony. I don't really want to mod one, but I'd like to play one. I understand space is similar to dungeoneering and hegemony, but I'd rather have a straight up control-a-country hegemony. Would anyone want to play this? If there's already some version out there under a different name that I didn't notice, I apologize.
  16. I'll take the Brazilian country. I'll pick a specialty soon.
  17. So which areas on the map are open still? (if someone could say their color and rough location on the map?)
  18. Plus, vaporizers. I prefer those greatly, except in groups of 3+
  19. We haven't had a real successful hegemony since Napoleonic, so I'm wondering what people like? Also, other things you like or don't like for the games not mentioned in the poll, like moderated or not, how wars are handled etc.
  20. Sorry, I've been in NYC on short notice for the past week+ so I've been gone, but I'm back now.

Saw Cake the other day. Classy show, but hipsters are boring at shows.

    Gun Control

I'm quite against major forms of gun control. In Vermont, the law is basically: be 16+ (though most stores only sell to 18+), and then the dealer has to record your name for a few years. I don't event remember having any incidents of gun crime. Murders that we hear about here are usually stabbings, drowning, etc. I personally have carried a gun in self defense (and I'm only 17), but it was because I was going to an extremely bad neighborhood by vermont standards, and there was a bad situationgoing on. I obviously didn't have to use it, but it made me feel a lot safer. I know that dealers and the like would be able to get guns illegally if the laws were stricter anyway, so I'd rather have one too.
  23. On the topic of ben and jerry's ice cream from a few pages back, it's an ice cream brand, founded in Vermont. I've met both Jerry, and Ben. I think Ben had a kid in my brother's highschool class.
  24. Because you started playing late? Technology progress in this game wasn't linear - tech advancement starts off slow and far spaced in between, then gets more frequent and in larger numbers as you go along. Part of the reason why Prussia started the game with a budget of 12m or so and ended with 20m. I started with 14m and ended with 30 something..
