  1. You can't. If you want to get an offer in right after an update, you have to spend the day at the GE waiting for it.

  4. http://news.runescape.com/newsitem.ws?id=1940 It's in the actual main front page news of rs only a month ago... [/hide] It is VERY hard to come up with things that people here don't know about Runescape :| Next week, have that be the did you know. As for the articles, they were both great reads. Keep up the good work.

  6. The minigame, Mobilising Armies, will have a very minimal effect on the economy especially for junk items. The minigame is currently too hard with minimal rewards for the large amount of effort put in. To put simply, the minigame targets all of the wrong players. The majority of players will always want cash. This is the reason I like this game: eventually, the only people that will play it are those that actually enjoy it (like myself). The only possible problem would be a lack of players at certain times of the day, but I have faith that that won't be too big of a problem (and, if it is, I always have Starcraft to turn to :ugeek: ).
  7. Once the hype dies off, the campers will leave (I would hope.... ; I have yet to actually go and play mostly because the hype tends to bring in a bunch of losers to things like these). In the meantime, have fun rushing. Also, hopefully we'll see some more diversity in the units so more strategy can come into play (Can any of them used ranged/magic attacks (from a distance) or is it all just melee? If it's all melee, that's the first thing that needs to change).
  8. It's because they're generally used together and, therefore, tend (heavily) to follow the same trends. Items just being similar to each other and falling under a (very) specific "category" can also cause this (h'ween masks are like this as are most party hats).
  9. I currently have just under 9 mill cash. My total worth is over 200 mill, though (if I had to guess, I'd say my bank is worth a total of about 215 mill, of which ~199 mill is in 3 mask sets and 3 santas (that I bought about 3 months ago) 8-) ).

  12. Replacing a cash inflow with an item inflow produces the opposite result. Instead of the currency losing value and prices rising, the item(s) lose value and prices drop. Admittedly, this isn't exactly any more ideal than the currency losing value, but, imo, it is better than what is happeneing now and it would be best if they returned the pvp drops to actual items while they work on a suitable solution that won't cause too much of either problem. As said before, limiting the value of pvp drops based on the actual amount being risked could be one way to do this (ie you can't get more than 2* times the value of what you're risking). Another way might include mixing the two drop tables (ie make the drop tables include both the artifacts and the items) while also increasing the rarity of these artifact things (and possibly the items as well). Now that I think about it, combining the above options might also be a great idea as well. *This number is arbitrary. It could be a good number to start with but I am by no means saying that it is the best option.
  13. The U.S. doesn't necessarily NEED the oil. The U.S. has large reserves of its own oil not to mention the fact that the U.S. is the "Saudi Arabia" of coal. The one problem is all the environmentalists running around saying that we can't get at/use any of it because of "climate change" (I love the name change that has come about since the earth started cooling recently*) and the idea that it'll ruin the view (not an altogether unfounded claim, but still silly imo; especially when talking about the barren wasteland called ANWR). As for the Saudis supplying Al Qaeda, I would think it'd be common sense to think that this was happening (we might be on good terms diplomaticly, but I wouldn't be surprised if every muslim nation in the world was helping terrorists in one way or another). *I would post more on the whole "man-made climate change" hoax, but I don't feel like typing any more atm and this thread is about Saudi Arabia and terrorists, anyways.
  14. Exactly :wall: What we also need to keep in mind is that people might spend the money they earn on summoning, construction, chinchompas for ranging, dragon bones, anything that can drain the money they made. Whether or not we see dragon bones rise 1k each depends on how soon they can get this under control :ohnoes: The only things that youmentioned that are really money drains are summoning and construction. The rest just involve the removal of items from the game and the money moving from one person to another. The GE and player-to-player trades are NOT money sinks in any way shape or form. The only ways to remove cash from the game (what would be needed to counteract the massive amounts coming in via 26king were it left in place) involve people buying items from shops/npcs, dropping it or dieing with it. If Jagex leaves this issue alone, inflation will continue on a massive scale indefinitely. Personally, I think Jagex should go back to the items as a quick fix (what's causing the inflation is the increase in the level of cash in the market) to stop the massive inflation rates and then start working on a solution that will allow for the items to be taken back off the PVP drop tables while also not allowing any more inflation (the idea of limiting the possible value of a drop to x times the value risked is one possible solution).
  15. My post isn't really pointed at you directly JP, but everyone as a whole.. When you think about it, is freezing prices really a bad thing? Its basically a shop with players stocking it. But when EVERYTHING is frozen, is it really an issue? You coal is always worth 150 everytime you sell. Your raw and cooked sharks are always worth 800 each. Your bandos godsword is always worth 20M. In reality, in a fixed market everyone only buys items they actually plan to keep, and the only people who don't benefit are those who buy items simply to sell them back later for profit. Honestly, this is the way it should be. I hope they DO fix prices, because it would make it more fair for the vast majority of the community. No more worries about Inflation, or money coming into the economy or this or that being overpriced/bought out. And freezing prices is about the only solution I have seen on this thread that will actually fix the problem. Alot of games (including MMORPG's) have fixed prices. It dosen't ruin the fun out of it at all. I almost see RS more successful if they freeze prices. The problem with fixing prices comes when the natural price moves out of the range of the set price. BGS's might always be 20 mill, but I would put good money down that selling one for that much would take quite some time; especially after you leave it there for a couple months and more BGS's come into the game and lower their value. The only items I could see with a set price would be basic commodities like logs and ores, but even those can have massive fluctuations in price because of updates. What happens when a new, awesome use for logs that doesn't interfere or deter from their current uses is released or discovered? The demand for them will rise without an increase in supply and the price will (permanently) rise and, with set prices, make them (extremely) hard to buy. Jagex could monitor this and change prices manually when necessary, but why do that when they can just let prices fluctuate on their own and find/use a different tactic for ending price manipulation? Using the banhammer and/or lowering prices of bought-out items right in the middle of the buyout might take some effort to begin with, but once the presence of merchant clans has significantly decreased or, possibly, disappeared altogether, they could just leave a detection system in place on the GE to tell them if another merchant clan comes along.
  16. The same thing is happening with halloween masks. I think it's a byproduct of the phat rise.
  17. no laissez-faire is bad, look at what happened in the 20s and 30s, harding, coolidge, and hoover were all in favour of laissez-faire, this helped to cause the great depression, and it wasn't till roosevelt was elected, and he intervened with the economy, that the situation improved Crashes like that happen quite frequently (in the dgrand scheme of things) and laissez-faire is generally the best option for fixing them. I bet you didn't know that in 1889 there was a stock market crash that was statistically worse than the 1929 crash. The reason you don't know about it is that the recession that followed only lasted about a year and the economy was back up to about where it had been pre-crash within about 2-3 years. And here's the kicker: the government didn't do a thing. Same goes for the 1980's. There was a recession following WWII. Truman tried to intervene with his own "New Deal" type plans, but got stopped by Congress and was followed by Ike who did pretty much nothing except build the freeways which were actually more for military purposes than anything else. We ended up with a huge boom that lasted through the '50s. Now, let's take a look at 1929-1937 again. The stock market crashed AFTER Hoover passed the Smoot-Hawley Tarrif (definitely not laissez-faire). After the crash, Hoover moved in and started bailing out the large companies, but that, obviously didn't do much of anything and then FDR got elected. FDR then proceded to pump money into the economy (which didn't help much as unemployment still soared to 25%) only to have to later raise taxes and cause a recession within the depression. The only reason the Great Depression didn't last into the 1940's is the fact that WWII broke out in Europe and everyone got jobs making weapons. Now, I'm not going to say that pure laissez-faire is necessarily a good thing. Monopolies, if not restricted properly (like many utility companies are (I wonder how many Americans know their utilities are run by legalized monopolies... :-k )), can cause many problems and should be dealt with in any economy. (there are other things that need to be regulated and stopped in any economy, like fraud, but that's for another discussion) As for the solution to merchant clans in RS, I do not believe any changes to the GE are needed. From the Mod Mat K thread:
