steveinater
o ok, well this sounds so very familyer, it is almost sertonaly overheating, ok so your going to have to take the side of your computer off and get to your chip (Pentium chip) there should be like a tall metal grid covering it, take it off ~(very very carefully don't touch the chip) and clean the metal grid now just clean up a bit of the other gunk in there put it back together again and if it still messing up post back. Cruiser
Do not take the metal grid off! Taking the 'metal grid' off the processor means you then have to remove the old thermal compound, clean it completely, and reapply new thermal compound. Removing it and replacing it like he suggests will almost certainly turn it into an overheating problem because you broke the thermal connection between the CPU and heat sink. This is exactly why some people need to stop suggesting fixes. All it takes is one idiot to fry an entire machine.

Slimfar
ok thanks for the warning but now my problem still isn't solved should i just try to take this side of to cool it down or it that just a waste of effort? I also totally agree with Cruiser. If your problem is caused by over heating removing a panel will not help at all and would probably make it even worse. The only suggestion I can think of is to check that all fans installed are working when your PC is running. However I really think this is something that needs to be looked at by a professional person. So I suggest taking it to a PC shop to have it looked at. Many thanks to Pup for my new Siggy :)
blade995
If you think it's overheating, download this program. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php This program is called speedfan and will tell you the current temperature of your computer. Tell us your system specs, the idle temps (when your not doing anything with the computer), and the full load temps (when playing a game ect.) darkblade986
Perhaps as a temporary solution, take off the side cover and place a fan there blowing outwards to suck out the warm air. With the panel open, more air should be able to circulate, and the fan will help remove the hot air. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
chuck006
ok i've tried to play rs and i watched the temperature this is the temperature when NO programs are running just before it happened again temp2 was 82 C all the other temperatures were the same i think that's the source of the problem
blade995
ok i've tried to play rs and i watched the temperature this is the temperature when NO programs are running just before it happened again temp2 was 82 C all the other temperatures were the same i think that's the source of the problem I think we found the problem. It has to be overheating if those temps are right. On the left side it says none of the fans are spinning, that may be that they are plugged in dirrectly into the power supply and not the motherboard. Try opening up your case while it's running and see if any of the fans are spinning, if not you need to buy new ones ASAP. Running at those temps, I'm surprised the processor hasn't already fried. What are your system specs, like your processor, operating system ect.?
Mementh
I hope you get your fans working man.. i check mine quite often to make sure they are good :) The following statement is true. The previous statement is false. 60% of all statistics are made up 90% of the time andrew i love you & want you to have my babys!!! chuck006
i got a 2.8 GHz Intel Celeron 512 mb Ram 80 GB hard drive oh yea i've checked the fan now , and the fan IS spinning but the temp keeps rising when i start playing a game :( p.s. i've only noticed that there is a lot of dust behind the fan of the processor. maybe this could be a problem too
Darrel104
If it is overheating removing the heatsink will not help it cool since that is what the heatsink is there for. Also, overheating just doesn't occur in the cpu chip but it also occurs at the gpu and the motherboards chipset and some people are so obsessed with cooling they will get a heatsink for their ram and and fan for their north bridge along with a bunch of auxiliary fans. Just make sure all your fans are working and there is no bunch or cables over your intake or exhaust, expecially ATA. However people usually jump to overheating whenever they have a problem with a computer shutting down, even with those symptoms so here are some more solutions: reset your computer to default BIOS settings check if this happens if sake mode Also a common mishap is the power supply failing but the person will actually think it is overheating since the computer will shutdown once the power supply has too much strain on it. You should not just replace your powersupply because you "think" that is the problem, even if you are sure. You should always have a reason backed by a result so your should test it with a volt meter. One more think that is common for this prolblem is the motherboard failing. I had once had this prolblem and it was fixed by replacing the motherboard but that is one case and all cases are different. If you know this is a cpu overheating prolblem then you could try purchasing some arctic silver 5(silver conductor paste stuff) witch I find to work a lot better then thermal pad and silicone grease but it is hard to remove it once you apply it so don't use this if will are planning on upgrading the cpu. Even if you have not ruined the previous seal it may still need reapplying of a thermal paste. This is because the pressure over time will thin out this later of thermal paste. Also it will not hurt to add a fan or two. Also don't forget to make sure the powersupply fan is working because it is often missed by people who don't know it is there and in my opinion it is the most important because all the hot air in the case will float up witch should be where the power supply fan intake is(sometimes). Some computers that over heat will either freeze up or give a general protection failure. Also make sure the monitor doesn't give a yellow light when it shutsdown. Cruiser
p.s. i've only noticed that there is a lot of dust behind the fan of the processor. maybe this could be a problem too That should definately be cleaned out. Taking the side panel off the case is fine, just don't remove the heatsink (the metal grid with the fan on it). A can of compressed air (a couple $ at Walmart or any computer store) will help blow the dust out of the fan. You could also just try blowing it out with old fashioned lung power but you may not get it all. Some tweezers can be useful for bigger chunks too. Gordo525
The same thing has happened to my PC , and after a while it just doesnt work at all.I have sent my PC to a computer shop, but before I did I found out that it was the CPU doing it, something about a power surge and it overheating.Seriously, you can save a lot of time, effort and computer files by just getting it professionally fixed. I know exactly what you mean, its just ruining the whole game for everybody, this is the worst update since noobs.

What you can do is take some compressed air and spray in into the fans and get all the dust out. Do not do this while the computer is on. Make sure you get all the big clumps completely out of the case and not just transferring the dust to another component.
