From the Runescape Rules:

Is it a scam to ask for lots of money for an item?

It is not considered a scam to ask for large amounts of money for an item, but it is not in the spirit of the game to over price an item.

It is not our intention to set limits on what players trade. It is a player's responsibility to make sure that they are paying a good price for an item.

We would suggest doing research prior to future trades by using the Runescape.com Marketplace forum or talking to other players.

Remember, the second trade-window is there to keep you safe from scammers. If someone is not giving you enough time to check the items being traded then we would strongly advise you to find someone else to trade with. Do not hit the 'Accept' button in the second stage of trading unless you are totally satisfied with the trade. You will not get in trouble for scamming if you choose to take your time and check that everything is as it should be.

The most important thing is to be honest with yourself - did you attempt to scam or not? If you can prove it to yourself, you can eventually convince other people.

From the sound of your post, the buyer payed overpriced without you trying to deceive him, so i'll say you didn't scam him. However, if he pm you later and tell you he made a mistake, it'll be of good conscience to let him trade back, but it's certainly not required.

Ofcourse not. As long as both the persons agree with the trade and you or the other person didn't say any untrue information it's all ok.

But saying: "Whips are worth 7 mil, but I sell you one for 5 mill" is scamming.

When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done.

As long as you did not make up any fake information about the item that you are selling to make it seem better or tell them the price is higher than it actually is (see whip example someone else posted..^) then you will be fine.

go to the runescape homepage and click on "appeal an offence/ban" and it will tell you if you have any blackmarks you have if any.

boohyah! no black marks! so how do i get them??

By breaking the rules of the game.

If you don't want black marks then read the rules, understand them and then don't break them, simple. :)

Edited for clarity.

Almost sounds like you want black marks lol? Jagex will look at the context in which you say things, not just individual words (apart from obvious attempts to swear), so I can't see you getting into trouble as long as you are not abusive and are not breaking any rules.

Don't follow me. You might not make it.

If both people agree on the price, it's fine. If you PRETEND to sell it for a given price and then DECIEVE the person then it would be scamming. You didn't decieve anyone, you were clear about what price you wanted and since the other person traded then it's clear they agreed on that price as well
