March 18, 200719 yr Yes, those issues are far more important, but there isn't a thread to discuss them at the moment is there? :P
March 18, 200719 yr Soccer: There are 2 nets, and 11 players total on the field at one time on each team. There is one ball, and each time tries to score on the opposite team's net. Football:There is a 100 yard field ( i think), and there are 2 teams. The team with the possesion of the football ( a big oval shaped ball) tryes to enter the other team's side of the field with the football. There ya go, those are what those words mean where i come from
March 19, 200719 yr I call it soccer when conversing with friends and football on this forum because a lot of the people call it that. American Football as you see it today is a modified version of the original American Football which is based off of rugby, which happens to be based off of football(soccer for people that call it that.) http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_is_Americ ... 'football'
March 19, 200719 yr well, If you would like to take it literally, Football actually has a position called "kicker" while soccer (as far as I know) has no position like that. In the united states, It has been called football for over 120 years now and compared to soccer, professonal football teams are hundreds of times more popular, as on ESPN, you cant even watch the Soccer world cup on TV in english (just spanish channels in most places) although they do post the scores on tv afterwords.
March 19, 200719 yr well, If you would like to take it literally, Football actually has a position called "kicker" while soccer (as far as I know) has no position like that. Every single position in football is essentially a 'kicker'!!! In the united states, It has been called football for over 120 years now I'm sorry, but that sounds like bull to me. Have a source for that? and compared to soccer, professonal football teams are hundreds of times more popular, as on ESPN, you cant even watch the Soccer world cup on TV in english (just spanish channels in most places) although they do post the scores on tv afterwords. So what? Why should that matter?

So what? Why should that matter? I call BS on that second statement too - theres no way that could be right and americans can call it whatever they want.. It was originally football, it was the original football and will forever stay the orignal name. (and the proper name)
