DaN
Is this a joke or does this person think he's got us in a corner and he can rant about some theistic garbage? Probably so they can rant bout god lol ~Dan64AuSince 27 Aug 2002
assassin_696
What makes everyone think that atoms and electrons and such are real? I can't see them, I can't smell them, hear them, anything of the sort. I am relying completly on the word of my chemistry teacher. For all I know, this could be an elaborate hoax...like the moon landing (jk). but still, I wonder if any of you can prove to me that they really exist without just like quoting some famous scientist that says they do. you absolute [developmentally delayed] you do know the atoms are physics, not chemistry. Also, as other people have mentioned; use an electron microscope. Oi, you. Before you start calling people such derrogatory terms make sure that you're talking from a position of authority and knowledge of your subject. If you're foolish enough to think that atoms and electrons have no place in chemistry, when in fact the arrangement of electrons around an atomic nucleus is responsible for all of chemistry, then that's your problem. But don't try and act superior about it. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
Mercifull
I did atomic mass and electrons in chemistry. Plus you cant see electrons with an electron microscope. So who is really the fool here? Hab3k
You need special equipment to see them, but they do exist.

Im doin AS level physics and we did about it the fist unit, constituents of the atom and what not, which i got an A on. Chemistry depends wholely on atomic structure, particularly valence shell electrons for bonding affinity. Electrical interactions are everything in chemistry; chemical bonds, electrolytes, electrochemistry, electrical interaction between R groups in macro(biological)molecules, metallic bonds, colvalent bonds, polar covalent bonds, ionic bonds, acid-base chemistry etc, etc, etc. In short, the electromagnetic forces of all matter on the atomic scale determine the structure of all matter on the macro scale. I was just really thinking of what ive done recently which is the constituents of the atom stuff studying them right down to the quarks (dunno if spelling is right) which i believe are fundamental particles along with electrons. Yea, you're right in suggesting that chemistry doesn't go into subatomic particles such as quarks. The only subatomic particles chemistry deals with are electrons because of chemical bonding, protons because they determine what element you have and neutrons because they determine what isotope you have. Other than that, it's all physics related (quarks, bosons, whatever else).
JeremyM
I just did a project and had to make a model of the element sulfur, so i had to show its electrons, neutrons, and protons... The Dark Lord
Drag your feet on the carpet to build up static electricity then touch an object such as a doorknob. Or you could just get struck by lightning. That proves electrons. Oh you can't see electrons? Damn what world are you living on? The Dark Lord
I believe high-powered tunneling microscopes have shown actual images (though blurry) of carbon atoms.
