A bit of photography

Peter

Recommended Posts

I tweaked a few more pictures today that I had on my computer (all taken by me, no stock photos), and had a bit of fun with them. They are mostly oversized, and remember that I'm showing the photography rather than the font, and I most likely won't use them as sigs.

Another Lake Tahoe picture, a bit different than my last. I took it at the same trip, and I thought it was pretty nice. Kind of reminds me of Terragen, but a lot more realism.

Yesterday we got about eight inches of snowfall, and the whole area just looked beautiful. I went out today in 27 degrees (fahrenheit) to take some pictures. This is one of the few that I liked, but it still isn't perfect. Has a lot of color, which I did like.

This was taken over the summer a few months ago in Quito, Ecuador. Wish I could have gotten it without the people, but we can't have everything :P. Love the color of the buildings.

Spring break in Costa Rica. This was taken in the jungle, and I like the foreground/background. Was really awesome there.

Another picture taken in Costa Rica, this in a costal village. In the white area there is ocean, but the glare from the sun made it bright and gave it a neat aura. Nice colors, and neat jungle trees in the area.

Beach scene at Costa Rica. That's the Caribbean Sea you're looking at. Nothing really special about it, but I just liked it.

Last one for tonight. This was a really cool palm tree that just jutted out over the water, but was planted on the beach. Thought it was nice.

That's it for now. Please don't rate them. Since I actually read every comment, ratings do no good. If you want to contribute, leave a comment on what you like or don't like. Maybe state your favorite, or the one you like least, and please give a reason. As always, I'm looking for constructive criticism here, not a number or "I don't like them."

Thanks everyone, hope you enjoyed them.

The pictures I like are #3,4,5, and 7.

#3. has great color with the goldenrod that's on the buildings. Love the path leading down into the town and you see it get to the mountains.

#4. It's just a nice photo in general.

#5. The light reflection off the water really draws your eyes. Love the boats too.

#7. In general, just a nother great picture.

#1, #2 and #6 is the best in my opinion, they spell out beauty and elegance with every single pixel

dont really like the rest as they seemed too cluttered up, which i dont like

good job btw :)

Not too keen one 1 and 2, but i love the Costa Rican one.

I am really starting to like photography sigs now. They are much better than the seen-it-a-million-times-already terragen and pixel sigs.

1 & 2 are OK, but clearly outdone by the others. I love the town scene because it brings a sense of liveliness to the picture, Peter, it's good you took it while people were walking along there.

The jungle picture is beautiful too because of the mist affect. Don't know if you added that, but if you took it like that, great job :)

You've got a great eye :D

Last one looks nice. I like how the palm tree breaks up the lines of the ocean... give it better variety in rhythm I think. It's too bad you don't have a better camera, you seem to have the locations covered...

Thanks everyone for the good responses. It's interesting to see how everyone has a favorite, and many of them are pretty different. I have to say my least favorite is the one of the beach scene (not the palm tree one ;)), and my favorite is the picture of Tahoe.

My camera at 5.0 megapixels is definately not of professional grade (the higher the better), but it is high enough quality for what the family uses it for. I've just taken it to the next level by doing kind of artsy pictures rather than pictures of babies or the family, which I hate getting involved in :).

The misty effect is because my camera over-reacts to the brightness in the sky and adds it in. In some cases it's nice, in others it just ruins the photograph completely.

There are a few things I wish the camera could do. One is take night pictures (in other words have the shutter stay open for a few seconds, rather than a thousandth of a second). This lets in more light giving vivid pictures at the night. I'll work on those with this one though. The other thing I wish it could do is give more color. The reason some of the pictures I posted are so colorful is because I adjusted the levels, giving vivid colors, and I can't even imagine what they would be if I had a better camera.

I visited an art gallery in Tahoe with a photographer who did the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen, and he said he takes the pictures in film, but in order to "digitize them" he puts them through a process that mimics a 200 megapixel camera. You can imagine the excellent quality and color that the pictures give. Not only that, they are the size of a large wall. Unfortunately the best are valued at over $6,000, hardly something I'm willing to pay. I figured at that point it was time to learn by my self to do something like that. And so it began...

Thanks again everyone...

i really like that one! i wuld buy it!

If you're truely interested in purchasing it, I'd be happy to do so if the price is right. PM me if you're interested. Along those lines, I'd be happy to sell any of the pictures posted, but downsized and changed to your specifications if you wish. Just contact me somehow.

Another possibility is requests, if you have a picture in mind and I can take it (the latter being the key), I'd be happy to make it for you. Just PM me details if you want.
