Nedich
Moderators I think we need more mods, this forum I don't know if you know has over 150,000 registered accounts. Tipit has around 40 mods. I wouldn't mind seeing that number doubled as I have encountered quite a bit of spam and although the mods are quite good alot of spam remains for a while. Plus alot of mods are good posters but are unable to post because they are to busy locking posts, more mods would reduce the burden. Normal Users The average users need more rights, for example polls, there are often alot of threads in the general section that are polls but obviously they dont have the ability to use that function. So the thread ends up with a bunch of one word answers. Users should be able to delete their own posts, as often people double post or decide they don't want their post to be viewed yet are unable to do anything about it. Aswell as this users should be able to lock their own topics if they think it's getting out of hand they shouldn't have to pm a moderator. Boards The following boards are pretty pointless: Runescape News: This is a tipit fansite so it is presumed we all know where the runescape website is, we don't need an administrator to copy and paste it! I think it's a waste of time. Clans: Most of these can be made into a general clan board: clan discussions, the battlefield book, vault of conquests, rampage coliseum. As they're all pretty inactive. I also think their should be a new debate forum, posts addressing religion, politics, other controversial topics shouldn't be in the same board as posts like 'whats your favourite colour'? or 'whats your favourite snack'? It will also help segregate the two parts of the general discussion board as alot of more immature users feel the need to post in more mature debates. Besides their is a debate club for the Runescape section why not for off-topic. Well there are some suggestions, it will be interesting to see what you make of them. The thing is we're always looking for more mods, but It's very hard finding new mods, the process filters a lot of candidates so few make it. Just know it's not that we're not looking for more. The two suggestions above are open for abuse, it's been discussed before many times (check other topics or search please), so no to those. It's also in the blacklist. tripsis
As xman said, we are always looking for new moderators. It's difficult to find people who are kind, helpful, know where to draw the line and are relatively active. And I think there are plenty of moderators who post outside of "modding." It's not that we're too busy to post, it's just that some of us choose not to, you may not see some of us post, and some of us post quite frequently. I think xman covered your "normal users" section pretty well. We used to have the option for normal users to make polls, but it was abused. Imagine the hundreds of pointless polls that would be created (i.e. "What's your favourite skill," "How long have you been playing RS," "How much GP do you have," "How do you earn your gp," and the list goes on). Also, it's not really necessary to allow users to lock their own topics, and it could easily be abused. If you want your topic locked, simply report your own post and a moderator will take care of it ASAP. As for the Runescape News board, I think it's fine. It gives users a chance to discuss recent updates and share their views on them. As for clans, that's one suggestion that I do agree with to a certain extent. There are many inactive clan boards, and I think some of them could be merged. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
the_tallest1
I'll pretty much just echo what mxm and tripsis said since I'm not feeling too original today. We're continually looking for new mods. Even though new ones appear every few months we are always working behind the scenes to get more. Polls will not be reintroduced because of the chaos from it in the past. Just me making a trivial one on request once in Blogscape opened a mini flood of pointless poll requests. If the topic needs a poll (and the poll has a good purpose) a mod will be more than happy to add it if you ask. Just looking at the kinds of topics currently in Gen P2P alone you can imagine how many polls we would have on just the first page. Users being able to delete will not happen. Even we (mods and admins) don't do that so I don't foresee it being a user feature. Similar idea for user locking. This would be abused in debate topics when the person ends up losing and doesn't want to look bad. Again, mods are more than happy to lock a topic for users if it needs it. 571st to 99 Fm Nov. 4 '06 - 315th to 99 Crafting Mar. 3 '07 - 3410th to 99 Fishing Sept. 18 '0726378th to 99 Cooking Oct. 16 '07 -.- 99 Thieving Dec. 29 '07 - 1343rd to 99 Farming June 5 '081807th to 99 Agility Nov. 8 '08 - 3094th to 99 Smithing Feb. 14 '092012 total - 91 combat

Nedich
Well they are some interesting points considering they could be abused, maybe if you have say, over 1k post counts you are automatically considered as a mod? Anything to say about the debate forum? I definintely think you should consider what I said about the clan boards though.

That would just lead people posting useless posts around the forums just to get the 1k PC, and it doesn't mean they are very helpful or anything. Errdoth
She also said that you need to be kind and nice. So, to get gazillion post count, you can just throw some junk into topics to get your PC rise :| I can see the number of "+1" posts "Yeah..." posts rising horrendously just for people to get 1k post count. I personally think that there are just about enough mods on tip.it, just that more of them need global privileges, they can still be assigned to a specific forum, just that, should the need arise, they can move elsewhere, or if there is a reported post in a forum not theirs, they can address it, rather than flag it up for the forum specific moderator. What are you (you addressing anyone who can answer this question) afraid that the mods will do outside of their forum, are they not trusted enough or something? If they can moderate one forum well enough, why can't they continue with that, and sparingly moderate other forums? misterxman
There may be a lot of "+1" posts but not many reports of them. It doesn't take long for a mod to take care of the "+1" posts, but if no one reports such posts, it's unlikely a mod will catch it in the few topics he/she has time to read. Dragontotem
I personally think that there are just about enough mods on tip.it I agree with that. Mods are currently doing great job in these forums, and I dont see any reason to get heaps of new mods to come either. Although, few more could be handy, but we can live without them (i think) And yes, there is alot of "+1" posts, which is annoying.. So lets just report them and get rid of them. Errdoth
And yes, there is alot of "+1" posts, which is annoying.. So lets just report them and get rid of them. Actually, for the +1 posts, I just meant that if the idea that if you got 1k post cout, you would be a mod, then there would be a big rise in those type of posts. Err... How am i supposed to understand this? First you are automatically Teh mod, then you are not? And whats the difference between "being concidered as a mod" and "being a mod". How would you be "concidered" as a mod, if you dont have any mod abilities? :? [/url]">[4Th in Finland to achieve 99 mining. 3Rd of June 2007]Pixels make me horny. tripsis
I disagree with the whole 1k+ post count and you're considered to be a moderator (for previously mentioned reasons). Also, consider this, there are several forums where your post count is not counted (i.e. Rate This, Blogscape, Forum Games, etc.). What if those are the main forums you visit? Then your post count wouldn't be high at all. This was actually the case with me. When I became a moderator, I only had 150 posts since those were the main forums I visited, so most of my replies weren't even counted towards my post count. Just throwing that out there. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

Mercifull
Everyone can be a mod with the addition of the "report post" feature. It flags up so that any of the actual forum moderators only need to delete/move/lock the thread without having to trawl though thousands of posts checking for bad stuff.
