So let me get this straight

You see a lot of spam , but you want us to grant the users more privileges which they could use to further add to the spam....

Giving users the ability to delete their own posts would be like giving murderers the ability to magically remove all evidence from their victims, its not going to happen.

Users need not lock their own topics, if you don't think your topic needs to be replied to , then it probably doesn't even need to be posted. If a topic is "getting out of hand" , theres no need to PM a moderator, use the report button , its like PM'ing every Moderator and Administrator at once.

Yes, it would indeed be great to have a double sized Moderator Team, let me just search through the memberlist and pick a few at random.

Finding trustworthy moderators that can deal with immature users and problem posts on a consistent basis is not as easy as it sounds when theres a few hundred people browsing and posting 24 hours a day.

Contrary to popular belief , post count means absolutely nothing when we invite people to join our staff, but I'm also not going to tell you what we DO look for either, that only adds to people trying to live up to some standard that is false. Be yourself, if you have the right stuff, someone will notice you.

As for the Runescape News, you may find it useless, great, you don't need to browse it , but we have got so many users that actually visit our site before runescape.com and like to see if theres anything new they want to try out that day. Not everyone plays Runescape every single second they are at home, but we have a pretty large handful that do like to browse the forums and site daily. It also gives the users a central site to share their thoughts on the update.

Yes the clan section has its ups and downs, its active one week and not so active the next , changes will be made when they are needed.

We already have the Off-topic forum that has its own group of users that like to address all those topics you mentioned, and you're right, they shouldn't be grouped with posts like "whats your favorite color?" , because to be honest , posts like "whats your favorite color?" are completely useless and really need not be posted anyways.

A debate forum has been suggested as an off-topic subforum in the past , and the off-topic users didn't feel it was all that necessary. If an "immature user" posts in what you call a "mature discussion", well, thats life. As a user , you have a choice, you can join the immature group and acknowledge it, or join the mature group and ignore it.

Wow thanks Ablosky you basically just told me to shutup and go away. But i'm glad that today I learnt to deal with life. If post count means nothing what is its point, I mean I thought that was the whole point, if you post alot you obviously spend alot of time in forum so people get to know alot about you. I thought that is what a forum was about having active, well known, popular people moderating the forum.

I bet I could pick out 40 people that could mod this forum fine, I mean what could they do lock a topic?? Hardly causing hard scale damage to the forum. You DO need more mods as that post was on the wrong board for 3-4 hours. OR I could sit here and ignore it which was your advicelol. You also don't seem to trust your users, lets not be too strict on the rules here whats wrong with polls anyway, do they offend you?

Nedich, the problem with polls has been discussed half a dozen times in other topics and staff has posted the reasons why they're not allowed. For your other questions, Albosky and rest of staff pretty much already answered them.

In the end, why worry so much about mod stuff when the number of current mods isn't causing a serious problem, that's no fun, just enjoy the forums for its content.

To answer your question about what the point of post count is, we've considered getting rid of it a few times. A poll was taken to view the users' opinions on whether they should stay or go, and majority of our uses voted to keep them, so they stay.

And I feel like I've said this a hundred times, but I will say it again: we moderators do not see everything! The best way to speed up the process of getting an inappropriate post/thread taken care of is to report it, which many of our users actually fail to do. Instead of replying to a misplaced/inappropriate thread, just use the report function to inform the moderators of the problem and we will take care of it as soon as we can.

No, moderators are not perfect. And there is a lot more to moderating than locking, unlocking, moving and removing threads. Albosky did a nice job of explaining that.

No, we are not going to consider people to be staff members because they have a high post count. Does a high post count mean that you are a mature user who can deal with problems and have a descent sense of judgment? No, it does not. In fact, it could even mean that you've posted nothing more than one-sentece replies a couple thousand times. Post count says nothing about who you are as a person, which is what we need to look for in a moderator - not just about how often you post in certain forums.

And as I said earlier, your post count isn't even counted in certain forums. So what if someone exists who is "moderator material" but only posts in those forums? Their post count could even be zero. Even if they are eligible, should we not consider them just because they have a low post count? No, they should definitely be considered for who they are, not how many times their replies have been tallied.

Wow thanks Ablosky you basically just told me to shutup and go away. But i'm glad that today I learnt to deal with life.

It's amazing how sarcasm gets absolutely nothing done.

If post count means nothing what is its point, I mean I thought that was the whole point, if you post alot you obviously spend alot of time in forum so people get to know alot about you. I thought that is what a forum was about having active, well known, popular people moderating the forum.

I am not a moderator, I'm a crewbie, but that doesn't leave me with nothing to say on this note. I have been actively visiting this forum since my join date (with some breaks due to real life). However, I rarely make posts unless I feel there is a need or I would particularly like to respond to a topic. My post count is low - by your standards, I am not an active person on this forum, nor well-known.

I bet I could pick out 40 people that could mod this forum fine, I mean what could they do lock a topic??

Moderators have to be mature enough to deal with situations effectively and properly. Their jobs are not merely "locking a topic".

Hardly causing hard scale damage to the forum. You DO need more mods as that post was on the wrong board for 3-4 hours. OR I could sit here and ignore it which was your advicelol.

Do you expect there to be mods on duty 24/7, and always looking for more mod-related things to do? Everyone has other things to deal with, it's impossible to deal with every single issue that arises. Doubling the number of mods would help, but it's no solution if they can't do their job properly. So one topic sat in the wrong forum for a few hours. This is no crisis.

You also don't seem to trust your users, lets not be too strict on the rules here whats wrong with polls anyway, do they offend you?

The problem with polls has already been completely explained... they are overused and abused. This is historical fact, not something we're just making up.

As has been stated numerous times in this topic - using the Report Abuse button helps moderators do their jobs.

Well sorry for trying to help this forum, if you're all going to tear into people that suggest idea's why is this forum here. My idea is popular but obviously it cannot be implemented because the powers that be are too power hungry. Oh well have fun with your power.

As has been stated numerous times in this topic - using the Report Abuse button helps moderators do their jobs.

The post was reported yet was still in the wrong forum for 3/4 hours. EXPLAIN to me how that isn't conclusive evidence that there aren't enough moderators. I suggest getting more people from Europe on the forums as that is where I live and it effected me. Errdoth you are not an admin so stop telling me what to do!!!!!

He's trying to tell you some answer, let him teach you something.

Mods, they don't stay on TIF everyday, and their are only usually about 4 or 5 on at the time. I'm sure they're also playing Runescape (Cdub, Xman, Val, etc.). It won't be immediate every time someone reports something.

Firstly, id like to show you what SaidinWot stated

Do you expect there to be mods on duty 24/7, and always looking for more mod-related things to do? Everyone has other things to deal with, it's impossible to deal with every single issue that arises.

Just like player moderators in RuneScape itself, you dont see then going bothunting to report people 24/7, they dont go to busy worlds to find some people to mute etc.

Player mods are pretty much same as forum moderators.

Forum mods = keeps FORUMS clean

Player mods = keeps THE GAME clean

You can't expect forum moderator to sneak around everywhere with stetoscope in their hand trying to find posts in wrong forums etc.

Well sorry for trying to help this forum, if you're all going to tear into people that suggest idea's why is this forum here.

You're wrong. People here in TIF are NOT disagreeing with every idea, we aren't here whineing about every suggestion.

As your attitude isn't quite what whole other TIF has, i personally just dont understand what are you doing here.

Somebody didn't like your suggestion, and you take it personally.

IMHO you should just accept the truth that people don't like it, and just think about something else to suggest for this forum.

And "why is this forum here" part, i'd like to point out that you can discuss about the forums here also, it's not against the rules.

I suggest getting more people from Europe on the forums as that is where I live and it effected me. Errdoth you are not an admin so stop telling me what to do!!!!!

Why from Europe? Yes, you live there, so? I dont think moderator should be picked by where he/she lives.

And.. No, Errdoth isn't an Admin or mod, but at least he is mature and he has alot of wise comments to say, so i think you should listen to him.

Pixels make me horny.

Errdoth you are not an admin so stop telling me what to do!!!!!

So you would rather take advice from the "power hungry" admins?

So, so confused be I.

That makes me laugh. If your idea is popular, where are all the supporters and why aren't they replying to his thread? Show me that and I'll believe it's popular. Untill then, stop thinking you're somehow more important than the numerous other threads suggesting these exact same things that got the exact same answers.

The post was reported yet was still in the wrong forum for 3/4 hours. EXPLAIN to me how that isn't conclusive evidence that there aren't enough moderators.

A post in the wrong forum is at the very bottom of a mods to do list. There are much, much more important things to be taken care of before a thread is moved. I'd absolutely love to see you try to run a forum this size, serving the same age group, and have enough mature mods (working FOR FREE) to move wrong topic posts in under a half hour 24 hours a day. Judging by the way you're replying to this thread, that would never happen under your watch.

I suggest getting more people from Europe on the forums as that is where I live and it effected me.

The world does not revolve around Europe or you. The forum as a whole takes precedence over your opinion and suggestions. Albosky's reply already repeated what has been said at least once a week around here for who knows how long.

I obviously cannot get through to you so this will be locked. Next time I won't post my ideas on here as I now realise how rude people can be. Goodbye.

Of course you can post your suggestions here, and IMHO no one was being mean.

We were just trying to tell you why this/these suggestions weren't good...

Pixels make me horny.

You can't get through to us? Frankly, it seems we can't get through to you :|

We have not been rude in responding to you, we have been attempting to show why these changes would not work for the forum.

I will quickly re-address all of your points:

Yes, doubling the mod team would be wonderful. However, the selection process is tough and stringent - we want people who can appropriately represent Tip.It.

It is historical fact that polls are abused.

People being able to delete their own posts would be able to cover up anything they had done, like removing all evidence from a crime scene, as was stated by Albosky.

Just because you don't like certain boards doesn't mean others don't find them useful.

And finally, post count is utterly meaningless, as already stated a few times. There are a number of users who rarely post unless they feel there is a very good reason to - that doesn't mean they aren't active in reading the conversation. Likewise, there are numerous people with high post counts who got there through immature posting, or simply would not be good as staff members.

I'm sorry you think we were being rude, we've just gotten tired of repeating the same points over and over with you seemingly ignoring them.
