Lowgravity
LOL! Jeppoz was onto you so you decided to make this post so that you didn't get humiliated, that hardly takes guts. Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(
ColAvanor
I wouldn't concider tracing to be in violation of copyright. I wouldn't call it ripping. I would call it a way to substitute for drawing skills.
Lowgravity
I wouldn't concider tracing to be in violation of copyright. I wouldn't call it ripping. I would call it a way to substitute for drawing skills. So you can copy some lineart, shade it quickly in photoshop, and play it off to be pixel and try and sell it for 500k? Wow that's really difficult Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(
ColAvanor
We weren't talking about copying lineart were we? The case was tracing a photo, if I'm correct. It's practically the same thing as if he would take a picture of himself lying on the ground and then tracing it (Since the tracing progress effectively eliminates anything worth "copyrighting" in the image). Would you concider that cheating? I wouldn't. I think the aim is to produce the most eye pleasing result, no matter how "difficult" it is to achieve. What is the value of a thing being "pixel" anyway...everything is pixel. If it looks like crap, I don't give a damn on how it's made. More often than not people could generate better looking images by brushing in PS than trying to pixel. I see no point in worshipping a picture just because it must have taken ages to make. (and yes..there are pixel images that take advantage on the medium they are using or have a catchy style) Though a traced image isn't a true "pixel" sig, it can surely kick some pixelaced wagon. Should you have a problem with it, blame the one buying it, not the one creating it.
Lowgravity
Yes.. That seems right, "OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS GUY RIPPED A SIG IT'S NOT RIGHT TO BUY FROM HIM YOU IDIOT! THE ONE RIPPING ISNN'T THE ONE TO BLAME! GRR WHY TRY AND BUY IT  " Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. ColAvanor
I'm not completely sure, if you agree with me or not, but just incase the latter. I didn't say that ripping images is cool, or that the one buying ripped images should be punished (though the law says so on stolen property). I said selling traced images is cool and if they go for as high as 500k, it's the buyers fault. Money talks, ya know.
The_Jeppoz
Tracing a photo isn't actualy ripping...the copyright expires in this situation since you don't alter/modify/use parts of an image but simply emulate it yourself obtaining a different result. The reason why he traced was to achieve a nice result drawing a body that for angle and position might have been hard to do... Even if i somehow started the whole thing i'm personaly not "offended" by his work. It's not illegal according to my opinion and the only thing i could say to him is...(as i told him in a pm) don't stop to traced lines but work hard on changing/reshaping those lines, adding details and elements to the original traced lines, and of course work on a good texture enviroment for it...the result is you'll have something totaly yours in the drawing, based on a body position you've been inspired from...Getting inspiration from reality (and photos are somehow reality itself) isn't that bad for an art work...and nothing to be ashamed of... I personaly don't think this thread was necessary...however you earned some rispect for such decision, at least from me. PS: You can also trace Da Vinci's Mona Lisa , but if you can't draw...no matter what tecnique you use, the result will be awfull...so if you liked that sig before...now you know it was traced...does it realy change things ? think about it... jabraulter
this has gotten a few more replies than i thought. im glad to see, however, that the majority are willing to "give me a second chance." frankly, i do not know if tracing a photograph which i found on page 4 on a google image search is "ripping" or not. i am in no way trying to defend myself, but like jeppoz said, i was trying to recieve the best result i could. however, i do realize that it WAS unfair for the other entrants. if this makes anyone feel any better, i gave N4K the sig for free and would not accept one dime from him. i think you might see a change in my work, because i am going to try and move away from PS brushed pixel art, to real pixel art. even though this IS my "style" per se. anywho, all will fall into place sooner or later. Savior
Wow man, it takes a lot of guts to do that. The fact that no1 was the slightly suspisous of you is what realy makes this just... wow. Very cool to see you owning up to this, and admiting your wrong. You probaly could've won that competion, got a lot of cash and everyone would be happy :), But you did the right choice man. And i realy envy yah for that, i know it would be hard as a sig maker to do that. ~Nadril Yea alot of guts to tell people you ripped a sig on an online community where no one knows who you are... real guts ya...
jabraulter
you're entitled to your own opinion of what ripping is, but i dont know if you read that i found a random picture on a google image search or a real life photograph, not a pixel sig that had already been done, and i traced it. like i said though, you're allowed to have your own opinion.
youmakemesik
Firstly, Aight, hm, I'm very happy you confessed to something you did incorrectly/illegally... However, that doesn't mean we can all just suddenly shower you with respect and I'm pretty sure you understand that... What I mean is, you can't do something bad, such as ripping someone's linework, and then just becasue you apologise to it later, expect everyone to think of you as a brave and noble artist... You know what I mean? Sure, it takes guts and some courage, I admit that, but it doesn't mean we can think of you as a real good person for going back on something bad you chose to do... What's happening is: You made a bad desiscion and have decided you don't want to be a part of it anymore... That takes courage yes, but doesn't make you a righteous person worthy of respect, and I think you understand that, so that's a good thing... Secondly, a lot of people here are saying it's very brave to confess, when no1 had any idea of the rip... However, just to correct you on that matter, jabraulter has already stated at the start of his thread, that he confessed BECAUSE The_Jeppoz suggested he could be ripping... I'm not saying what jab did, didn't take courage, I'm just saying some of you have got the case wrong... Thirdly, just to correct a few others on something: What he did is still ripping, just in a different form... Read on, and I'll explain. Now, if he used a photo for all of his character linework, that may not be ripping, in the sense that he didn't steal someone else's art, but it is ripping, and dis-honesty, to say that you created the image, without providing and presenting the sources that you used in the artwork... Now I wouldn't be saying this if he jsut looked at a picture and 'copied' it, but he actually 'traced' over all the linework... Hope ya understand... Fourthly, just gonna re-iterate a bit... I respect your deciscion and judgement of confessing, but I'm still gonna remember when I looks at your artworks now, that you have used other lineart's as 'Your Own' in the past... I won't hate you any more, atleast not purposefully, but what you did just kinda tags your reputation a bit... Hope you understand, I'm not trying to accuse you of a huge crime, and I'm not just being 'mean' or anything, I'm kinda looking at it from both sides... ~ YMMS
Led-Zeppelin
Yes.. That seems right, "OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS GUY RIPPED A SIG IT'S NOT RIGHT TO BUY FROM HIM YOU IDIOT! THE ONE RIPPING ISNN'T THE ONE TO BLAME! GRR WHY TRY AND BUY IT  " What the hell, this dude owned up to it, I think you should just shut the hell up. Oh no, he traced a photo, ripping? NO What the hell are photo manip sigs? You really suck, oh and by the way, the Southpark creators might sue you for copyright breach for using their characters on a runescape forum. (Very poorly I might add).

Actually, Mr.x made that SouthPark sig, and it was one of his firsts  What I really find funny,. and insanely stupid, is that if LowGravity has that signature, half the people here would say it's bad and throw in comments such as "atleast my sig isn't as bad as yours", but if Mr.x posted it as his first sig, people would be all "LOL! That's a nice funny style!"... Know what I mean? I got nothing against Mr.x, his awesome and I like his personality and artwork, but I still think a lot of people (here), have their better judgement altered with bias, depening n who made the sig... But I still don't think tracing should be classed as "ripping". I mean sure, he should have said he traced some picture (called being dishonest by the way, not called being a ripper). When someone can get pictures of southpark characters and put runescape equpment on them, tracing some guy, then colouring it in yourself hardly seems wrong. P.S. By the way, I would never congradulate Mr.X on that sig. Even though one of my sigs is made by him.
