Well that guy did. He was a street sweeper in a fairly rough place. Basically that thread is just him telling a lot of his bizarre stories of things that happened to him on the job in a really entertaining and humorous way. However, as a warning, the thread I'm linking has some kind of bad language so I'm not sure if it's okay to post or not. I asked one mod and they said it was fine with them, but they weren't sure if it would be cool with the other mods. Mostly I just wanted to share this guys' stories with you all.

 

 

 

So basically have you done any menial jobs? They don't have to be extreme like this guy, but feel free to share any experiences you've had with them, or just comment on the thread I linked.

I haven't had any menial jobs particularly because I haven't had any jobs at all yet. Anyway, I've read some of the stories on that guy's thread and whether they're real or fake, I don't care. They're good stories to read. Something to keep me occupied.

Anyways when I did a little guarding job (guard wasn't my official title, but 80% of my job was guarding) I had some cases with drug abusers, alcoholics and drunk people. Anyways I liked that job and because of night+weekend shifts, I got quite nice money too.

Yea, they tricked me on the boat to Dubai from Indonesia to work for $4 and hour.

Working a night shift always seemed difficult to me. Do you have to change your sleeping schedule to do so?

That sounds painful. I worked in a warehouse for a one time kind of thing for like 6 hours where it had no AC and it was summer. Basically me and a friend had to open these packages with a plastic bat and 2 plastic balls with our hands and separate the balls. By the end my hands were really cut up from all of the plastic digging in to my skin.

Sounds like it sucked. I guess I shouldn't have said that job I did was the most menial, I guess a lot of assembly line jobs are like that. Just the volume of work was huge, since each piece didn't take long.

i work at a really boring net cafe but i had a gay guy wanting to fight me because his computer messed up and he wanted some free time to compensate for his loss but i dont do that because heck if i give free time out i dont get payed. so he starts screaming at me at the top of his lungs and me and everyone in the internet cafe are just laughing our [wagon] off at him then eventually i got fed up and called security and had the extreme pleasure of watching this guy get dragged out and me getting to issue a life time ban :thumbsup:

Like I said before those stories were great and really if they were made up (which I kinda doubt) then he did a very good job of making it up.

 

 

 

 

 

Anyways only menial work I did was when I first started my current job. Ended up just doing stupid small tasks like fill badges for conferences and shreding a literal crap-ton of papers.

 

 

 

 

 

I get to do different stuff now though since they trust me. :thumbsup: (which is computer work).

I've worked in ma uncles box factory a few times, not cardboard boxes, like fancy ones from polypropelene (plastic). It's not too bad, just wack your ipod in and go, metal edging or folding or glueing, the cutting and stuff was done by the older guys who could operate the machinery. The pay wasn't bad, and i didn't get a rise or w/e for working for my uncle, it was standard. It does get a tad monotonous when your doing 15,000 of the same boxes though. They were for weight watches btw.

Finally finished reading all of those stories. I laughed a ton. Talk about a great read. I can't wait to find out what that letter from that girl said. I hope he tells that story..

I finished reading them all too. It's definitely worth reading. It's all so hilarious but he even manages to have sadness in his life as a street sweeper. Such a great collection of stories.

I think he finally finished his street sweeper series completely. He recently added the letter he got from Jen and about his very last day on the job with a conclusion.

 

 

 

The "Funeral of a Sweeperman: Pt.1, The Reflecting Pool" story really kind of made me think of my own life. He was finishing up one chapter in is life and he's moving on to another one. I've been feeling the same way lately, as I only have like a month and a couple weeks left of high school then I'm off to college.

Oh wow. I didn't click on the link, because I didn't think it would be anything special. Everyone who has done a hard days work after a while has stories to tell, thought these would be pretty average.

Yeah. It would definitely make a great book but it wouldn't make a good movie unless it had good actors and budget and everything. Otherwise it would just be some movie that goes straight to DVD that no one would watch.
