Will i lose money in firebolting metal dragons? will the loots (espically Dlegs) cover the costs?

 

 

 

I will be wearing Full mystic with erm and other stuff with good mage bonus / or maybe full ahrim

 

im lvl 80 magic

 

and each Fire bolt will cost me 200gp

 

 

 

 

 

i also want to know wads the average xp i can get per cast..

i would suggest getting chaos gauntlets, it increases the max hit to 16 I think.

 

Wear the best mage bonus you can and you should make a bit of profit if you get a dragon item.

oh yes i will be wearing choas guant of course i didnt mention :D

Just a small note it only increases the max hit by 3 so the max hit is 15, and you may end up losing money as I ahve used over 10k casts and my best drop being a rune mace.

I wouldn't advise wearing ahrims as you would end up paying significant repair costs, so mytsic is one of the better choices for your armour.

On average killing a dragon takes about 50 fire bolts so that's 10k gp per kill, you also have to take into account of the costs of anti fires, not really worth it anyway. Also, you're playing with luck which is very unreliable.

Drops are random, you shouldn't count on them to make money.

how about if i plan to kill them till 99 mage?

 

And how long does one spell take to cast anyway? 2.5secs?

I think i read something by someone who killed 10k steel dragons, with about 60 casts per dragon. He had 10 dragon drops, mostly legs. I estimated that the dragon drops (forget which they were) would be just barely enough to cover the cost of the runes. So, he only made profit from the lesser drops.

 

 

 

I've tried killing steel/iron drags with mage and melee, and even at lvl 90 when I tried it, I found it easier to melee the iron dragons, but mage the steels. Higher levels melee the steels as well. Note that i only meleed irons during slayer tasks, and after i finished the task, so i used a black mask as well.

Pray meleeing metal dragons is far faster than maging and cheaper too. If you wish to train mage, I'd suggest Black Demons as demons are susceptible to mage attacks and you'll hit more often. I personally think that maging dragons is kinda silly when they are reknowned for their mage defence (hence d hide armour) unless you're cursing for xp.

I pray vs steel dragons using Proselyte Plate and legs, fury, Black mask, anti dragon shield, climbing boots, ring of wealth, rfd gloves, dds, and whip. I got dlegs on a 16 dragon slayer assignment.

Look at urself, when ur fighting a mage in full rune u will get hit hard. Its the same with these dragons, they are covered with metal scales so magic will hit hard, but there are those lame dogs around so u will get distracted.

There are only dogs around with bronze dragons, the big room with iron and steel dragons is totally not occupied by wild dogs.

 

 

 

Anyway if you want to mage why not just go to barrows? You make even more money there compared to relying on rare drops for your money.

barrows is great loot but not good xp and its tedious eg need to bank often

So should i mage iron or steel dragon?

Steel Dragons have better drop rates for dragon legs and skirt, but have around 70 more hp and better defence. At first you'll have to attack Irons as they are agressive for 20 mins, but I would try and kill steels if you can.

I've tried maging Metal Drags. Used about 10K Chaos and no drag drops. Even with the highest mage bonus, I still hit a lot of 0's. The only way that you will make money or even break even is if you get some drag drops. So it's just a gamble as to whether you feel lucky or not.

So is this a good set up?
