Bomb Threats

Why do I bring up this topic? Well in the past month there has been 3 bomb/gun threats at our school. As you can probabely guess from me posting this thread, nothing as serious as a bombing was ever conducted.

The first bomb threat was just a bomb threat explaining the time and date that the bombing was going to occur. This day happened to be a Friday (some silly kid wanted to get a three day weekend  ). The second bomb threat was a shooting/bomb threat. "If we cannot get the bomb planted on Friday, we have enough ammunition to shoot ya'll up." Now who would write such a thing? The third threat was a shooting threat. All it said was we are going to shoot up your school blah blah blah.

Our school took all the necessary precautions for each of the bomb threats. But what troubled me was the precautions were not the same each time. They were more and more severe. The first day they checked like 1 out of 20 kids backpacks entering the school, locked some doors, and had extra police presence. The second time they checked about 1 out of 5 kids bags and issued no passes with no lunch release, police presence was increased. The third time had the most severe actions. EVERY student was searched and only one entrence was unlocked. All other doors were closed. They tore apart everyones locker and let no one in or out of the building.

They have found NO leads to who this person is and there is a reward of $1500 to anyone who has any information that can bring this troubled kid to rest.

The bomb threats suck because now for the rest of the year the school is pretty much on lock-down. No passes will be issued during class and we cannot leave the school for lunch.

Now I ask you, what kind of kid wants to cause a school so much pain and money? I seriously want this kid dead.

Any thoughts on this? I just personally think it's just a kid that wants three day weekends.

The worst thing is they're following right after a National tragedy with the Virgina students... The day after one of the schools in my school district (not ours thankfully), a group of four students was arrested for possessing firearms AND ammunition. I think it's stupid how people are, whether or not they planned on using it causing panic for no reason but to be "funny" is ridiculous. I'm glad nothing serious has happened at your school though, you never know...

Something similar happened at my school, but with less severity.

After other schools in our district found the same message, "There will be a shooting on *Day* at 3:00" in the boy's restrooms, somebody finally wrote the exact same message in our restroom, this time during AP test week.

There are a couple of reasons this shouldn't be taken seriously:

1.) People have written worse things on the walls of the boy's restrooms. I've seen rascist remarks and crude drawings more serious than this shooting message.

2.) The fact that the EXACT same message started appearing in restrooms at every school RIGHT AFTER the VT shootings. I mean come on, this is obviously a lame joke/cry for attention which is confirmed by the sheer absurdity of the situation explained in reason # 3.

3.) What gunman seriously contemplating a shooting announces the EXACT TIME they're going to commit it? I know these gunman usually want attention, but they get plenty of that during the actual shooting. When a message like this is scrawled on the bathroom walls, it's still anymous, and it decreases the shooting's chances for success.

What ticks me off even more is the fact the school took this seriously enough to annoy us for the rest of the year, but not seriously enough to actually prevent anything. All they did was make us sign something every time we do anything, including leaving the class, going to the bathroom (They have staff outside every door now), entering the library, or going off campus. It makes things tedious, and it wouldn't stop anybody from pulling a gun on them right then and there, and actually following through with the threat. A teacher armed with a piece of paper and a pen won't do anything except slow the campus life down.

Why is it that schools always take the wrong things seriously, and usually miss what's really going on? Over my entire school career, I've noted that 90% of the time, the innocent are punished while the guilty generally get a slap on the hand.

Had a bomb threat at my college last year, was boring as hell.

Since it was on campus and I lived on campus I pretty much had to leave for the entire day. :-s

We had a shooting threat a few weeks back. Nothing really went down though. The police were around most of the day and the kids suspected of sending the threat weren't allowed to wear their usual black trenchcoats because of how easy it would be to conseal a gun in them. Other than that the day went on the same as any other.. <.<

Sadly threats must be take seriously because those police officers or teachers could lose their jobs if something happens because they didn't pay attention to the letter, phone call, etc..

Look at what happened during a much larger scale catastroph, the Katrina hurricane. Politicians couldn't care less about the scientists' warnings to strengthten the dam. Result? Entire town destroyed.

Like it or not, sadly, there will be always idiots like that kid who wanted a 3-day weekend and wastes resources for nothing. (If I was still in school though I'd search for him all day for that $1.5k)

There was a bomb threat at my brothers middle school, and they had to follow precautions (i.e. everyone had to go outside, bags were searched, etc.) and go outside onto the Soccer field for roughly 2 hours. Very little of these threats actually go through with what they say they are going to, but you still have to take all the precautions just in case.

My high school hasn't had a bomb threat since I was very little, and it was just some crazy kid who didn't want to take his senior finals.

I had a bomb at my house, the bomb squad came and everything. T'was a Molotov Cocktail, pretty cool day. :)

Why do all the weird things happen to you?

OT: Do your teachers/Director seriously believe that those threats are real? They should realise that it's just bluff. Nontheless, the reaction is correct: imagine a real bomb would be planted. Would you rather lunch outside or live?

None of the students believed it was real. Yet over half of them stayed home. It is pretty silly if you ask me. But bonus for us kids that went to school considering all tests and quizes are pushed back a bit. Not to mention all the movies we watch. \'
