The biggest bandwagon in the world

Plus the thing is, when they eventually come round to saying it, we all know it will be too late.

If I'm not mistaken, it already is. Nothing we can do can stop the melting of the polar ice caps now.

Very interesting.

A friend to all is a friend to none.

Well we're going to run out of oil anyway...

You know, I've never heard an oil company actually acknowledge that oil will be gone someday. I hear the "There is enough oil that we know of to last for 150 years and we're always finding more etc etc etc, we're fine, kkthnxinvestinusbye" thing.

where did you hear that? I heard we have less than 50 years :?

anyway, global warming is just one example, and not really the main point of what I was saying. My problem is the way we are no longer allowed to question, anyone who decides to question something and threaten someone reputation is automatically labeled as an ignorant idiot, and someone nobody should listen to.

The politicians don't give a crap about global warming, they just want bigger paychecks, and win the next election. That's why this is happening, and nobody is any longer allowed to question. What if something goes wrong? what if we take the wrong step in "cleaning our environment"? What if something goes wrong outside of global warming? and we banish anyone who might try to warn us? What will our children think of us 30 years from now, after we screwed up very bad because of this political game?

I think we need to stop worrying about global warming, the war in the middle east, terrorism, ect.. for just one minute, and look at ourselves as a society, for just one minute. Maybe we might just find the root of all of our problems.

If skeptics are so sure about thier position and they want to have merit then they'll have to stop whining and actually do something to have thier voice heard. A good, ney, neccessary step to take would be to write a scientific peer reviewed journal on thier position which actually contains conclusive and sound science. This may sound harsh but if they want to bicker and whine about being silenced because thier opinion was put down, then they really should get thier crap together and think about getting to work on a sound scientific theory.

so who do you think will allow/fund them to do the research and disprove global warming? its almost a fact nowadays, even though it's not even close. Also, there are scientists who have done research to disprove that humans are the main cause of global warming, but how much do we hear from them? does anyone care what they say? Even the media wouldn't want to do a story on that because of fear of damaging their own reputation.

If Global Warming isn't true. Then how do you explain the melting ice caps, the riseage of sea level? And the increase of world temperature?

Now I'm not saying she's a golddigger, but she ain't messing with no broke skiller.

Of course, the media whor*s of this world will always put thier sway on things. You raise a good point on the funding of such research projects. Perhaps an oil company that's worried about dwindling profits in the future would make an executive risk to give the alternative theories a funding injection. Good point, though in theory the doors aren't exactly locked closed.

Well, I don't want to fight for my opinions, as on this forum, it's not allowed, but doesn't ice melt naturally?

And by the way, the ice has been melting since the ice age stopped

The world goes through heating and cooling cycles, it has proven to have happened before long before humans were on the earth.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

The bandwagon is ridiculous. Just the other day my friend didn't want to fly (from Sweden) to Romania, where she and my sister were going, because of global warming. She thought they should've taken the bus instead. Fortunately we talked some sense into her and they took the plane.

Why should we prevent global warming? I don't think the earth will mourn if all humans would die. Actually it's the other way around, if we want to save the earth, eliminating all humans would probably be a good start.

Eh? We are the most important species on this planet if for no other reason than we are the only ones who can say that. Of course, kill all humans and the problem ends but a part of that is because no one would be around to see whether there's a problem or not. I'm thinking the absence of human beings or eradicating the race to solve all of life's problems, although I'm sure you're not serious, has to be the most futile position ever.

Anyway on people actually going along with the fear associated with the bandwagon I'd go so far as to say that's weak. Don't let anyone upset you living a rich and fulfilled life with fear, no matter how dire thier claims. I take inspiration from REM - "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine." It's not to say I don't think there's a problem or we shouldn't act to resolve it, but to me it's saying I'm not going to be brainfarmed into feeling nothing but fear.

So we're important because we can say that we are important? And therefore our eradication is not a good thing? I'm talking about saving the earth. The earth doesn't need humans and it would probably be in better shape without humans.

I know those things. I was saying it's pointless to destroy the human race to save the planet. What's the point on saving the planet if we're not there to see it? It's just nonsense to me to ever seriously consider destroying the human race for something else.

It's a rock. A frikking rock.

We care about the earth simply to save ourselves, and maybe our dogs. The earth is no better than any other rock in space. It just has people on it, that's the only difference.

When we care for the earth, we aren't really caring for the earth. We're caring for ourselves.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

It's not pointless if the goal is to save the planet. But that's obviously not the goal, we're just trying to save our own skin.

Bingo. We don't give a toss about planet earth, only the environment and hence wellbeing of people. To put it a different way if there were another planet going through potentially human harming climate change and humans weren't on it, it's be left alone.

Okay, I'll take the earth and you can spend the rest of your life on the moon.

It's just annoying hearing that we must save the planet, when the only reason for our concern is that we rather recentely discovered that our pollution might be a problem for us in the future. Call it "The attempt to save our own skin" and I might be willing to participate.

I'd agree, the earth is beautiful - it deserves better care. It's just that it's the cold hard truth that the attempt to save the planet is indeed an attempt to save our own skin.

i didn't think about the oil companies though, good point too. But I doubt they will be doing anything soon, as long as people still heavily rely on oil, and aren't going to stop using it.

True. They realise all to well they have society by the balls, to put it bluntly. :XD:

You don't get it, he's right, the earth is just a rock, the only reason we want to save it is so we can live on it, and enjoy it's beauty. No you can't have the earth to yourself, and I'm not going to the moon until we have established base there, and made it a useful place to live.
