Veryhyper
The thing with combat is that there's always a chance of you getting a crazy good drop whether it be just killing monsters, or doing barrows. This breaks up the monotony while skills the only thing you have to look forward to is being able to make better or more numerous stuff. Making money with skills, you know exactly how much your gonna make with however amount of time you spend doing it. With combat it's different. My advice would be to buy full guthans and a whip (if you don't have it already) and going to the greaters in karamja caves where the metal dragons are and kill them for clues and repeat. The clues will break up the monotony if you get bored easily. (usually it takes me 40-60 minutes for a clue). You could also do barrows with guthans so you could do that too. Sumpta
So I decided to work on Slayer. Using a Whip on Controlled setting, I was training 5 Skills at once, and getting cash and raw materials for other skills. And a lot of those raw materials were for 2 of my favorite skills, Farming and Herblore. And these free raw materials were expensive and/or next to impossible to get in a non-combat related method. I love training multiple skills at once (or doing skills that provide raw materials for other skills) so I have no regret for giving up being a low combat skiller. To each there own though. Pretty much my method. I like both combat (through slayer) and skilling. I'd hate to have high combat but a lousy total. Slayer is one of the best skills to train on a daily basis if you want a good all-round character. Farming, herblore, crafting, your combat skills, even construction (curved and long bones) will benefit from slayer. And you'll be making the gold to fund some of the other skills. armadillo48
My main focus on training was orientated around CW. Hence 99 def and magic to improve my game (and my soon to be 99 hp and eventually 99 range). I train other skills to break up the time and keep my total at a reasonable level so i don't appear to be a "noob". I generally enjoy most skills but i find some tedious (mining, gone from 58 - 62 in a year, go me \ and agility, did it with a friend, 53 - 60 in 6 months). Saying that, i only got high agility/craft/farming for quests which benefited me (roving elves, lunar, fairy tale pt2).

Autist
Runescape has the bad thing about it... People love it at first, after a while, they only THINK they love it. I, myself have been sitting in bank for hours, doing nothing, depressed and sad because everything seemed so boring and pointless. That's why I did quit, now only waiting for dark bows, to get some cash. Just do what you feel like doing, not because you feel obligated to do it. If you are not having fun doing it, then please, don't. :)
deangut
Well the game to me has always been fun.... At first I loved quests.... Then I moved on to making money... Then I took that money to get some levels.. Then I started to PK and got my stats up to make a tank Then SLayer came out and I rushed to 85 and got my combat up to 105 Now I simply play for the fun.... Goto DK's, Farm, Barrows, Slayer and PK'ing... I had the most fun with Slayer! It was a long goal and well worthe it.. Also the road to 85 slayer was a blast... Now to finish my road to 126 combat. Alg
my reason for not fighting is quite simple... aside from the usual answer. i'd prefer not to have a mainstream character, almost everyone these days has an account with similar stats, equipment, etc., while i have the melee stats of a level 70 at 84 cb, and 1340+ total. it's all what you enjoy, really. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
mbrun
I respect someone with high skills more than high combat. PC is just too easy to level combat stats. The only reason is did pc was to level my range and mage to a decent level without losing lots of cash for runes and ammo. I much prefer using slayer to raise my combat levels and income. Woodcutting and smithy are just too boring for me. I prefer RC or fletching to make money. Money is fastest way to raise most skills - buying raw materials. I cant stand merchanting but it is necessary for selling off clue items. I have the most fun skilling with friends. Slayer would be great if it allowed u and a friend to do the same task. Maybe Jagex will think of that sometime. Barrows Drops: Guthan's platelegs and War Spear, Dharok's plate body and Great Axe, Verac's Flail, Verac's Helm x 2, Ahrim's top, Dharok's plate legs Dragon Drops: Medium Helm x 4, Shield Left Half, plate legs x 2, skirt x 2. jones11
I respect someone with high skills more than high combat. PC is just too easy to level combat stats. I agree. This is one reason why i dont use pc. i prefer the challenge of raising all my lvls by myself, both combat and skills (chopping my own logs for fletch and firemaking, mining my own ores for smithing etc.) When i reach a high level in any skill, i would hope that someone would respect me for it. Chocobodude0
I love combat, and hate skillin'. It's boring. Honestly, the only time I skill is to meet the requirements for a quest.

TheEvilGizm0
I used to be a decent skiller with 1600 at 80 combat actually it was 82 >.< But then I started to train slayer for my all skills 60+ goal, and I fell in love with combat :) Now I do a bit of both. 65 slayer then some skills then back to slayer/barrows. They finally got it right.
jaskkes
If your playing the game for what other people think then your playing for the wrong reason. That's what I always think about. Like RIGHT now, at the moment i'm RCing because WCing is become slow and i'm getting some cash up because I want to. I could grind out and get 95 but I don't want to so i'm RCing. That's how to play a game, for fun :D An achivement is in the eyes of the achiver, and anything that is an achivement for you is all that matters. 'Nuff said. magictv
102 combat, 950ish total. There's your answer for me :) I don't skill. Because it's incredibly boring, and I see little reward for it, unlike combat where as i improve combat stats I can pk better. [/bads]
piman1053
Endorsed by Deangut. Wow. Also, great posts, made me realize that there are skills I like but haven't trained in a while. Sick atm, so I'll be bored of rs in no time flat. Fun cycle tbh: bored irl, so I play rs, then bored of rs, take a few days off, then bored irl, then rs... Eccentric
I love doing quests, even when they're annoying; I like having my quest list lit up with green, and every so often there's a quest with something that makes me laugh or enriches my vision of the RS world. So I train everything, even the skills I have an extreme dislike of (well, except RC, I let TOG take care of that one XD). I like flitting from skill to skill, mixing things up with a little combat is nice; especially when I'm training slayer at the same time, since it's easy to chat with friends (unlike the mad rush of PC). I like having the freedom to just go and do whatever strikes my fancy at the moment, and raising my combat and skills allows me to do so. Anyway, every so often I find a skill I didn't like starts becoming fun when I reach a certain level, or if I train it with friends. You never know when you'll be pleasantly surprised.
