ever experienced it?

no one is totally prepared and can say what they are going to do in case of an emergency.

they always tell you afterwards what they have done and you should also do it like that...buit that simply doesnt work

Thats false, doctors who have had much experience know exactly what they are going to do in specific emergencies, and always do it in that order. I would be preety afraid if they didnt...

[Note, I'm not saying all doctors, I said experienced ones.]

So how do doctors work then? Or soldiers? Or paramedics? Or policemen? Or firemen?

But anyway, to the author, well written, and you've hit upon the key factor which is confidence. As you rightly said, if you look confident and determined you're less likely to be singled out.

I still regard the best defence to not be there though, but when you do, this kind of mental preparation definitely helps.

Great of you to warn people and such and teach them what to do, but you're kindof leading them all to believe that they're going to be attacked every day.

My philisophy: I believe I am safe and nobody will attack me, then nobody will attack me.

Sounds [unusual], I know, but it works for me.

Power of thoughs > Self defence, Martial Arts

yeah it works for you...but then I'm sure most people don't expect to be raped, don't expect to get mugged, heck the people on Titanic didnt expect to sink, thos in plane crashes didnt expect the plane to crash, it happens and sometimes if you think the worst, you're prepared for the worst and when it doesn't happen you're relieved but had it happened, you'd have known what to do

I'm not calling you a liar, don't take it personally. I just seem to see a lot of people on the internet who say that they took karate, with no way of really confirming it. Chill out (especially since there'd be no reason to lie and say you're an orange belt, rather than a brown or black).

Still, how did it take you three years to get an orange belt? Blacks take less than two... I'm confused :-s . Did you do it on and off? Orange belts are pretty far down there... Or were you saying that people should take three years, and that's your goal?

And I'd love to explain to you in a couple thousand points why Fullmetal Alchemist owns all over Naruto, but I we can save that for the PM box or another thread :-w .

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

also three years to get orange yea were not as slacked as you. even this kid in my class that started when i did who was the best made it to green (One above orange) in 3 years...Judo is alot different then tao kwan doe..or w.e...

for a about 10-11 years old when i started.. aint gonna be a friggen black belt by 14 dude...and i doubt it takes no 2 years to become a friggen black belt..unless you place first in every single tournament and what not..

If it took you 2 years to become a black belt then you were probably training with the guy on Napoleon Dynamite...Rexs kwon doe? yea..

I think Reb was referring to karate(?). In Shotokan Karate it's possible to become a black belt in 2 or 3 years, but takes serious dedication.

Dedication which i seriously doubt he had...but whatever? Judo is way different then Shotokan so it doesn't bother me at all if he is a black belt whatever.

I'm not. My brother takes Maududo, a form of Judo, and he got to black belt in about two years, maybe less.

As I said in my first post, I'm not a fighter; I've had no formal training whatsoever. I was just basing my estimate off how fast my brother got his black belt.

Most of the training in his form actually happens during black belt, getting up in the degrees. My bro's teacher is a fourth of fifth degree blackbelt after a few decades, even though getting the blackbelt itself took relatively much less time.

Ya, so all forms are different, it just sounded odd that an orange belt would take three years :| .

Maududo is a form all types of martial arts not just particularly judo..

Yes your estimates are wrong..just because your brother got a black belt in 2 years doesnt meen anything..or prove anything...most likely your brother is very good in his martial art and gets placed in tournaments. Different arts require different amounts of time to get certain degrees of belts..

and as i said. i was about 10 when i started...and as i stated above..there not gonna give some little 14 year old kid a black belt. unless he is exceptionally good..(im 18 now and most likely i would be a brown or possibly black) as i said, we are not as slacked as your brothers art. And we are to make sure we know how to perform stuff near perfect and win tournaments we are advanced..making it very difficult.

As Joe Tessitore says on Fight Night 2 - "You've gotta throw punches in bunches." If you hit somebody once (no matter how hard it is) there is a possibility that their natural reaction is to spring right back.

Aside from that just go for the right places - between the legs, the eyes & the throat. Trust me I don't care who you are, if you take a poke in the eye or a jab to the throat you're going to stop for a split second which is more than long enough to take a few decent slaps.

You might consider hitting in those places as dirty but dirty fighters have more chance of not catching a beating. In a fight it's best to leave your morals at home, (unless it's some highschool childish rubbish) you need to be prepared to put yourself and your wellbeing before your morals otherwise you could end up hurt.

It's true. And he's not all that much of an all-star; he's average for the class, if not slightly slower. The first degree black belt in his form doesn't mean a ton compared to higher degrees. Like I said, his teacher is only a few degrees above him, but my bro doesn't stand a glimpse of a chance against him obviously. Heck, he doesn't stand a chance against me yet, and like you said, if you're older than him you'd probably beat him too.

You meant "his" instead of "you're" at the bolded word, right? Again, I don't have any training, just clearing that up if it's a confusion.

Feel free to correct me and give me as much info as you want; I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to martial arts forms.

Your was just a generalization to anyone..

Yea...most kids that start at age 9 and go till there 11 don't even come half way to black..they make yellow 2nd degree, maybe orange
