shadeselfen
Ahh.. today has been interesting so far... Decided to sell my H1 rune kite in world 1 (its been sat in my bank collecting dust) anyway, I see this guy [No Naming Names ~Kill Life] shouting out "win my stuff", yep, a scammer, normally i dont take any notice of this sort of thing, but today i decided to see how they do it (by using myself as bait) so i follow him past the anvils (along with two other people) to stand by the cages (varrock) he goes on to describe how to "Win" his stuff, you trade a item to him, he trades it back (trust etc...), he trades other person, whoever has highest value wins. so, knowing i was going to get scammed (and not caring) i put a rune plate down as my first "bid", anyway, i hold highest bid for a minute or so and then other player (wont name) comes along with a "better" bid (i'm guessing this is a freind of the scammers) so i up my bid to rune plate, legs and 100k (trade over and *surprise* he trades it back) continues on like this for a bit and eventully i decide to leg it before i lose my stuff, so i sell my h1 kite plus a green dhide (g) when he suddenly PMs me and tells me i've won. Okay. Riiighhttt.... so i go back to the cages and again the "trust" part... so i put up what i did before, to see where it would go, when... ..he tells me the other player bid 1mil! (yeah right...)so now im expected to outbid him (note, he has my "bid", see where this is going?) so he tries to convince me to put up more then one mill, telling me to sell my stuff etc... when this fails he tries to password scam me! telling me if i give him my pass, he'll get me 5 monthes members! (2 seconds later a report abuse was sent to jagex) I lost about 200k worth of armour, (woopee, my 8th set.. im not going to miss it) but i learned the way the scammer works etc... Now, heres the question : Why? Why do these "People" do this? money gain? some sort of perverse satisfaction? or do they just find it funny? Ginger_Warrior
They do this because they simply haven't got the patience or the skill to do it the long and normal way, so in frustration, they decide to cheat others off their stuff in order to get to whatever they want faster. TBH, I regard this kind of attitude not too different to people who buy a game, and then before they've even played the game, stick on Action Replay and finish the whole game in God Mode, just on a different level and without any care for the victim's emotions. I find both of these kinds of people truly pathetic, and sooner or later they'll learn that there's no easy way to accomplish whatever you set out to achieve in life. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

spuriousmonkey
The sad thing is of course that they really hurt people with their actions emotionally. Of course you can say it's only pixels, but I can still see the face of my cousin when they password scammed him. He got his account back because I wrote the message to jagex for him, and of course he is more careful now, but people deceived him. And deception is a nasty tool. Kashi
This scam is OOOOOLLLLLDDDD. One of the oldest, maybe, I remember this from when I joined (a few years ago). This one's right up there with armor trimming. And you want to know why people do this kind of thing? YOU! YOU!! What the heck are you thinking? You just gave a scammer 200k. So, gee, the next time he feels like scamming he'll remember the last time when he tried it and GOT AWAY WITH 200K OF YOUR MONEY! Do you think that giving this guy money is going to stop him? It's going to encourage him!! Holy cow, person, holy cow. WHERE is your sense of LOGIC?! My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race. However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to.
shadeselfen
"In Order to Defeat your Enemy, You Must Understand Your Enemy" I'll let you chew on that one for a little while. Logic, why, i never claimed i was using it. second) 200k, which i have made back plus tripled. I did this for a few reasons, one to try and understand what they hope to acheive, two, to see how they go about it etc.... first and only time i will ever be scammed (was i actually being scammed if i was fully aware of what was going on?) No no no, you're not going to make me out to be the stupid one here. Even if you were a billionare, and you wipe your nose with 200k (I don't know why you would, they're hard metal coins, but meh), what you did was still phenomenally stupid. You say you did it to understand the way the scam works, but anyone with half a brain can see immediately what the guy is planning to do, and how he plans to do it. Sorry, sorry ... I'm not meaning to call you stupid. I understand why you did it, I just can't understand why you did it. If that makes any sense at all. Kashi
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I did the same thing two years ago or so, with a person in Seer's Village using the same scam. I only gave him a glory amulet before I reported him, though, but I guess I'm just as bad. Maybe I'm yelling at myself, as well as you. I do believe it's more than just the pixels and it's usualy hard work to get all the stuff but I just think you would feel better if I told you you didn't lose anything. On topic - I can't believe you didnt realise it was a scam at the first time because trusttrades is the oldest trick in the book. If you wanted your stuff back you could just say "ok I will earn more give me the stuff so I sell for more and give you all my money". Well I guess you didn't lose anything valueable so that's ok but I wouldn't want a scammer to enjoy the stuff I earned even if it was a tinderbox. support new ghostly stuff here.I see RuneScape slowly turning into a sadistic version of WoW..signature your as this use backwards this read to enough smart were you If

Dragonlordjl
See my signature. Also, as far as the "it's only pixels" statement goes: the pixels represent sentimental importance to a person. I mean, what's an antique figurine, other than colored glass? It has great sentimental importance to a person, regardless of how useful it actually is. The same goes with pixels.
