July 24, 200718 yr So, its the summer holidays and instead of sitting around doing nothing, i've decided to us my spare time to learn to play a new song (all the way through, yup, every bar, usually i just do the bits i think sound good  ) on drumkit. Thing is i need help choosing a song, its not that i can't find anything, its just that i would like to hear other peoples ideas of a good song and maybe il find a new favourite band : So, i ask you, which song should i learn, paying particular attention to the drum part (also guitar actually, so my friend can learn guitar bit nd we can play whole song between us...then hit the big time and become the next KISS :XD: ) I've just finished learning Pantera's Slaughtered, a killer song with an even killer drum part (youtube for it, one of the best metal songs imo  ) So post away!.....Please  It isn't in the castle, It isn't in the mist, It's a calling of the waters, As they break to show, The new Black Death, With reactors aglow, Do you think your security, Can keep you in purity, You will not shake us off above or belowScottish frictionScottish fiction
July 24, 200718 yr Hammer Smashed Face from cannibal corpse. I always enjoyed they're drumming. Or try some stuff from Nile or Dimmu Borgir, Hellhammer is always enjoyable (the drummer's name is hellhammer I think?). or you could try some Slipknot or Opeth. Hell, just pick a song you like lol drum part's aren't all that different when going from genre to genre.
July 24, 200718 yr Two songs I like the drum lines to are Powerslave, and Murders in the Rue Morgue.. both by Iron Maiden. The latter of which, my drummer friend plays, and I know the song almost all the way through, so it's kinda fun. ;P It really has
July 24, 200718 yr Author Cheers for the replies. Yeah, i was thinking about choosing a Maiden song (there is one of the newest album im liking at the moment) and il youtube wakka's suggestions to see what they're like...thanks It isn't in the castle, It isn't in the mist, It's a calling of the waters, As they break to show, The new Black Death, With reactors aglow, Do you think your security, Can keep you in purity, You will not shake us off above or belowScottish frictionScottish fiction
July 24, 200718 yr 'Master of Puppets' or 'One' by Metallica. I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.
July 24, 200718 yr you could try some Mayhem too, if you're fast enough :P , or some "The Berzerker" but they use sound effects on their drums, however its very neat.
July 25, 200718 yr Author Thanks again Wakka, aint got round to 'tubin your suggestions but i will...as for metallica, recently been doing "For whom the bell tolls" so i kinda sick of metallica at the moment, thanks for the suggestion though  EDIT-Just youtubed mayhem, thinking about doing chainsaw guts... Good drum beat, double bass...also thinking about slipknot, wait and bleed, joey jordison ftw... July 25, 200718 yr Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana =) If you're good with high notes and singing fast, nearly any of Mika's songs.. Slipknot - Wait and Bleed / Pulse of the Maggots (My faves) : Good luck to you, by the way. I dont need a siggy no moar.

July 25, 200718 yr Author Cool, thanks everyone. Im about to go 'tube some opeth right now :D EDIT-Just 'tubed slaves shall serve... ...a bit too frantic, but opeth are pretty good. July 25, 200718 yr SMOKE ON THE WATER! With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
July 25, 200718 yr I'm assuming you have a double bass pedal? Try Exile - Slayer. One of my favourite metal drumlines, fast and flat out aggressive. You could also try Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr - Trivium. Thats a really cool drumline. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
July 25, 200718 yr Author kool, thanks for the ideas...my firend can already play smoke on the water on guitar so it might be an idea if i learn that, maybe as a kinda side project. And ragen, yup, double bass for the win! And ragen, yup, double bass for the win!I wish I could convince the drummer in my just-for-fun band to get a double kick pedal -.- . He keeps saying he will but he never does and thats my favorite aspect of the drums, they add so much depth and power to any rock song.
July 25, 200718 yr Painkiller, by Judas Priest, absoulutely killer drum intro. For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Metallica. Pretty good song, not bad drums, guitars are easy to learn. Children of Bodom, anything. That's all off the top of my head. [>>Thanks to Yaff2 for Reaper,Trooper, and DOOM sigs, Navyplaya for nature sigs, Hardwick246 for gold sig, ThruItAll for Darkwatch and guitar sigs, and Aijiru for avvy!<<][>>Refresh for new Siggie!<<]
July 26, 200718 yr Ever heard Under A Glass Moon by Dream Theater? Awesome drum line with double kick. It really has
July 26, 200718 yr Maybe some Rush? They usually have some good drums, guitar and bass, however the drum set, if I am correct, is quite bigger than standard (I remember for one song, the drum set had to be set up 360 degrees). I would say YYZ, but only because it is on Guitar Hero, meaning it had a decent guitar part, and also had a drum solo. There was also a bass solo. There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience.
July 27, 200718 yr La Bamba on bass guitar! 2104th to 99 Hunting January 10th 2008Proud Fan Of The Offspring Since 1998
July 28, 200718 yr Eh heh heh heh.....want a challenge? Try playing some of Slipknot's stuff. Heh heh heh....that'll make your arms fall off. Any song. They all have awesome drum lines.
July 28, 200718 yr I can't beleive none of you guys suggested 'welcome home' by King diamond? (different than the metallica song.) It's BEAUTIFUL! If not that, try some HORSE the band, I love their drumming, and almost too much kick drum (double). A million exploding suns is my favorite by them, but for drumming you might like...Black hole. Just check them out, their new drummer is immensly awesome.
August 1, 200718 yr If you are able to go completely nuts on double-bass, then I'd try and play Cast Down the Heretic by Nile.
