Ok; I know this has been posted before, BUT, listen up, this goes into full explanation of the idea. As in completely full. And the last time this was suggested it wasn't well thought out, and it was suggested in early June. Also, I thought of thought of this ideaentirely myself. (I wrote it down first and did a search later).

 

 

 

New skill: Martial arts

 

 

 

This is a very well thought out idea that took me two days to type, and 3 hours of graphic making, so please take the time to read the entire thing.

 

 

 

The main idea

 

 

 

As the title, um, suggests, this is a skill that enables you to use martial arts. The principle behind it is the same as in real life: defend yourself, quickly, and without or with few weapons. It would use up the same energy as running, though, and agility, same as running, affects this also.

 

Getting this and all other combat skills up to 99 would, yes, raise your combat. I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m thinking around, maybe, 4 more levels? (130) Maybe more.

 

 

 

Now comes the problem: should RuneScape copy the main martial arts (Karate, Judo etc.), or should it make a martial art of its own? I personally think that they should invent one themselves, if this idea is used. It, again, doesn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t copy anyone or thing. And JagEx (Usually) doesn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t copy.

 

 

 

So, you decide, is it a better idea to make up a new form of martial arts, or copy others?

 

 

 

Moves and Martial arts items

 

 

 

Next up, moves and items. As you progress in levels, you (duh) get more moves. as you get more levels, you can (double duh) wear special martial arts clothes that (triple duh) give bonuses to martial arts and defence/attack.

 

 

 

Moves fall into five categories:

 

1.Normal moves such as kicks, punches, etc.

 

2.Moves that take up energy or lower levels but are very powerful.

 

3.Disabling/Disarming moves that lock moves for a certain (Pre specified) amount of time or moves that drop their weapon (understandably only certain weapons, not for example a rune scimitar or dragon 2H, but certain martial arts weapons, see below.) Also, they come in levels, the higher the level the better you can disable/disarm.

 

4.Moves that stun the other person for a pre specified amount of time.

 

5. Deflections. These come in 3 or so levels (level one deflection, level 2 Deflection...) The higher the level of deflection, the more it can block. you can have these as a normal move so you can attack and then deflect consecutively.

 

 

 

But I have thought of a problem about using the moves:

 

1.You are unarmed or armed with a martial arts weapon that requires constant attention due to your high martial arts level (which causes you to attack faster) and you have a whole array of potions and food that need to be eaten/used at different times.

 

2.What do you do? The battle you are in is a matter of life and death, (Possibly losing a valuable item or a large amount of money, or having to go through part of a huge quest again).

 

3.Result: You die, due to the little time you have to use potions and/or food.

 

I thought of a solution:

 

 

 

1. Same situation.

 

2. You click on the moves you want in the order you want to make them.

 

3. Your dude does them. Eat, drink and be merry.

 

4. If at any time you want to change the order of the moves or the moves themselves, you just drag the move you want from the list of moves onto the move line-up, and the wanted move switches with the unwanted move and the unwanted move disappears into infinite nothingness. Obviously.

 

 

 

Clothes/Items/weapons include belts, torso items, legs, hoods maybe, and maybe another version of boots of lightness, which would help the constant problem of energy deprivation, weapons like the martial arts weapon Sai, (The three pronged dagger sort of thing) wooden swords, etc. I also just thought of ranged martial arts, would that be good? (Like ninja stars.) Suggest another item or two please; I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m kind of out of ideas, big surprise there!

 

 

 

Other aspects of this idea

 

 

 

This would give some air bags to the crashing RuneScape economy. Yes, it really would. Being able to use martial arts would lower the price of normal weapons and armour, which would give minuses (As opposed to bonuses) to martial arts. Why? Because everyone would be too busy training martial arts to care. Merchants would get more desperate, prices would hit the dirt, you get the idea. Is it just me, or does the economy suck way too much already?

 

 

 

Things to think about

 

 

 

Ranged martial arts, like ninja stars, that kind of thing?

 

What other martial arts items should there be?

 

Clothes?

 

Is there anything I have misspelled/just plain done wrong? Because I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢d like to know.

 

What else should be added?

 

Is this a good idea? Why? Why not?

 

 

 

This would be an F2P as well as p2p skill; non-members will always be able to get to the highest combat level, but members always have it much, much easier.

Graphics coming; I worked on them for quite a while last night but I didn't get very far, but I am at a point where getting farther is easier.

I'm not very impressed by the idea yet.

 

 

 

I wouldn't only make graphics if people like the idea.. You'll get more people that like the idea once you get pictures. You're doing it backwards.

Officially retired on 12/10/07, no drop parties because that might be "covertly trading wealth". What does one person's happiness(until they quit) mean compared to the hours I wasted while runecrafting, anyways?

I got quite a few ideas, but some of them need a COMPLETE reworking of the control-scheme to do well, so I'll just post the other ones.

 

 

 

Equipment

 

 

 

 

 

Shuriken (throwing stars)- Standard equipment for your basic ninja/combat specialist. They would likely be best used for their increased accuracy, fast throwing speed, and the ability to throw 2 at once (they can go in either ammo or weapon slot, ammo=1 at a time & 1 handed (can use anything else one-handed), weapon=2 at a time & 2 handed (only select few things can equip w/ these like this, explained later)). They are generally not the strongest weapon available, but they're good for distance fighting.

 

 

 

Kunai (throwing knife)- Again, standard equipment for your basic ninja/combat specialist. Has better than average accuracy (lower than shuriken's), decent throwing speed (again, lower than shuriken's), and can throw 2 at once (same rules as shuriken in this, can be equipped with them to hit with each one after another (they leave your hands at same time, shuriken hits sooner). As a little kicker, however, these can be used as a melee-range weapon. You can poison these just the same as a normal dagger, as well as some extra effects later on (you can probably guess).

 

 

 

Pata- A blade attached to your arm, generally through a leather/metal gauntlet. Has roughly the same speed as a shortsword when used for slashing, and as fast as a dagger for piercing. It is worn in the glove slot, but most weapons and shields can't be used with it. (3 guesses what you CAN use :wink: ) Can't use the Kunai's melee ability with these equipped.

Sounds pretty good but would it really need to be a whole new skill?

- Using 2 Weapons *

 

 

 

...sounds suspiciously like something on the Do Not Suggest list, unless you can prove otherwise...

 

 

 

Plus, I would think that anyone in decent armor would cause some troubles against someone using this style of fighting.

I did check the do not suggest list, but I didn't really notice fighting styles, and this isn't really 'Ninja'. I just used ninja stars as an example, I think that if they were going to do this, they would make up something entirely new.

Didn't you see in the topic title, 'Graphics in process'? I worked on them for hours last night. I suppose I'd better change that 'Graphics if there is support' thing, though, it coulbe be a bit confusing.

Original Idea, But most people say runescape is getting more complicated, I think martial arts would do this even more, but upload pictures

 

 

 

I'm working on it, I'm working on it. I have to have pictures for each move, and that's just the buttons. I never knew faking was so hard.

 

The reason Runescape is complicated is that it's supposed to be. Its supposed to be a role-playing game, and for a rpg it's very simple. Look at World of Warcraft! <-We won't discuss that anymore.

Nice but very big idea, and very big for discussion!

 

 

 

I some time ago thinked about unarmed skill to add it like next combat skill to runescape, because you sometimes skilling like cutting trees and else and you for understandable reason (to not waste energy) are without any armor or weapons and then you are under attack of some random event monsters and then that skill can help so much and that skill can very improve Runescape because here play a lot of combat phanatics!

 

 

 

In life i trained for 7 Years Karate, Taekwondo, Shaolin fundamentals & Ninjutsu.

 

 

 

Respect for idea :)

Suggestion: You can use Anchor on Waterfiends - is cheap if to compare to GS & effective with crush attack & it hit like Whip.

Is just ranged weapon i think not more, trained in life a bit suriken-dziucu really in real ninjutsu suriken dziucu combine throwing not only starts but knifes and other stuff surikens can have diferent forms not only like star if in reality.

Suggestion: You can use Anchor on Waterfiends - is cheap if to compare to GS & effective with crush attack & it hit like Whip.
