Is this a good levelling plan?

Featured Replies

Hello, new to the forums here, seems like an interesting mix of people here on the forums. Ok, basically this is my plan in leveling a couple of stats in the next few weeks. I've used the tipIT skill calculators, have have deduced the following info. Feel free to add any ideas of tips that may be of useful help.

Current mining level: 53

Current smithing level: 41

Current magic level: 31

Ok, so I will mine 1500 iron (already done 600), as well as 3000 coal (only done 300 so far), to make 1.5k steel bars (I will be level 48 smithing by then).

Now, I will sell 960 of these bars to make $575k @ 600gp per bar. This money will be used to buy 5000 chaos runes @ 100gp each (for $500k), and 10k air runes @ 15gp each for $75k (for a total of $575k or thereabouts). These runes will be used to level me up from level 31 to level 55 (according to the calc), using earth bolt, so that I can use High-Alch.

Then with the remaining 540 steel bars I will smith into 108 steel plates where I can then high alch them @ 1.2k each to make a total of $129.6k.

I know this sounds a little confusing, but hopefully it makes some sort of logical sense.

Thanks,

That $575k could buy enough "Curse" runes to get you to magic level 67...

Failed Curse always gives you 29 magic exp per cast

Fire Bolt averages about 34 exp per cast

Crumble Undead averages about 39 exp per cast.

Failed Cursing does not give any HP exp and you do have to click a lot.

But, it is a more cost effective way to raise magic compared to a Chaos rune based spell.

Hope this helps

I'd suggest using cursing (pun intended) as a way to train magic... unless you don't like the idea of aching arm afterwards.

Otherwise your plan is fine if I understand it right.

Ok thanks, but I'm not exactly sure what this 'cursing' is, can you do it in f2p?

EDIT: I know what cursing is now, it does look more cheaper than buying chaos runes, thanks guys.

Anything else that may be useful?

Yes, you can do Cursing F2P, it's a spell. You need level 19 magic and the rune cost is; 1 body, 2 water, and 3 earth. You get 29 experience per cast, but it's easy experience. The effect is weaking your opponents defense by 5%, just so you know.

Cowards can't block Warriors.

Where can you find that many chaos at 100 each?

Make sure that it's failed cursing that you do.

A good place to use is to cast from is the key room in the Varrock sewers

across the water at the 4 zombies in the ladder room.

I would also suggest cursing, and here is what you should wear while doing it:

Any METAL helmet, plate, legs, and shield, SOS boots, earth staff, any gloves, any cape, any amulet BUT magic.

Also, i would suggest using the zamorakian mage under the stairs at varrock castle. This is because you can A) get him as close as possible to the mage screen, and also because he has a good magic defence.

Good Luck.

If the OP wore green vambraces instead of gloves then he gets an additional -10 in magic attack.

That's useful for cancelling the +10 from the staff.

Yeah, he'll work.

I prefer to use a multi-combat zone just to be sure that I'll always have a target.

But, there are lots of monsters that will work if every Curse is failed.

Hope this helps

Yes, this has all been useful cheers.

What determines a failed cast anyway (is it because of wearing magic-lowering items e.g armor?) And why should it be failed casting, not "successful" casting?

You get the same xp failing it, and you dont have to keep swapping between what to attack

Like three posts up it says what to wear.

firstly, what determines a the chance of you failing to cast a curse spell is your magic level and magic attack bonus...the lower your magic level and magic attack bonus (from equipment), the higher your chances of failing. it also depends on the opponent you are casting the spell on. if your opponent is wearing armour which is susceptible to magic attacks (such as metal armour) the chances of failing will be lower but if your opponent is wearing armour which is resistant to magic attacks i.e. have a high magic def bonus (such as d hide/magic robes or is magic based such as wizards) your chances of failing will be higher.

secondly: when casting "curse" spells, ppl aim to fail as often as possible. this is because if your spell were successive, you would not be able to cast the same spell on the opponent till some time later. however if the spell kept failing, you would be able to continually cast the same curse spell on the opponent...

maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cooking

life may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?

my fake plant died because i forgot to pretend to water it

The thing that determines it is mage level and the bonus. And you should fail because then you can cast on the monster again, thus maybe increasing your exp/hour.

And a good place to curse is varrock sewers rats.

you did good maths.

But on the mage train, of course you can fail curse to save runes.

But you also don't get HP from it.

Then comes the decision in where you are going with your cmb stats.

if you want mage + hp : go bolt white knights (using table to be safe). i recommend to wear mage outfit to avoid failing spells (for further times, it can be usefull to have a high wining spell rate).

if you just want mage xp and save runes (and don't mind wining spell rate) wear warior outfit and mage guards just south of north faly entrance (3 guards on north and 2 in the center with no move + multicombat zone). there, use a time/world when low levels are training on them... wait for them to hit first then cast your spell on fighting guards.

Oh baby light the dark side...
