The life of a poor player

I'll see someone with a dragon chain. "How can he get enough money to afford that?" I'll think. Then I'll see a guy with dragon legs. "Wow, he must be rich!" I'll check my bank. Full Rune, DDS, Dragon Scimitar. That's nearly all. "Why can't I be rich?" I think. But, sadly, someone is rich and someone is not. I want to finally complete a hard quest. But I don't have enough money for prayer potions. "Should I sell my DDS?" I keep thinking. I cannot believe that someone has millions of cash, while I don't have enough cash for a few prayer potions. But, it's my life. :(

The basics

I know I'm not the only poor player in RS, and I want to help all the others. If you are poor, you must do anything with much less money than the others. But you can do it, because I can too! :D

If you go to a PK and suddenly lose all your items, don't stop playing. It happened to me - once. But I'm still playing.

To get enough cash for something (like prayer potions), you must save from something else. You can switch Sharks to Lobsters, Super Sets to normal sets and so on. You must also collect lots of items yourself, like logs, ores and many other materials.

Good and cheap items

Here is a list of some items, that are good, but won't ruin your economy.

Weapons

F2P

-Rune sword - 20,8K in Champion's Guild, better than you may think. I'll recommend buying this from other players.

-Rune Scimitar - 20K-30K from other players. The best F2P weapon.

P2P

-Super-poisoned Dragon Dagger (DDS) - 45K-50K from other players. A must for a P2P player.

-Dragon Mace - 40K from other players, 50K in Heroes' Guild. You need to complete Heroes' to use this, but it's better than you may think, because of three reasons: Accuracy, Prayer bonus and Special Attack, which hits in the mid 20's at lvl 60 strength!

-Dragon Longsword & Scimitar - Both 100K. Longsword is good if you cannot complete Monkey Madness, but if you can, use the scimitar.

Armour

F2P

-Full Addy - 30K-40K from other players. Nearly as good as Rune armour, but much cheaper.

-Full Rune - 170K-200K from other players. If you have enough cash, buy this. Best F2P armour.

P2P

-Full Rune - 170K-200K from other players. Most P2P's use this.

-Addy boots - 10K from other players. Cheap boots with good defence stats.

-Climbing boots - 12 gp from Sherpa in Burthorpe. Very, very cheap boots with +2 Strength bonus.

-Recipe for Disaster gloves - price varies. Good stats, and most of them are cheap.

-Klank's gauntlets - reward from Underground Pass quest. Free gloves with pretty good bonuses. If you lose them go to the Dwarf you got them from, he's in the Underground Pass.

-Rune Defender - You can get it for free! In fact, you cannot pay for it. Recommended to get, good attack and defence stats.

-Helm of Neitiznot - reward from Fremennik isles quest. Very good stats.

Food and potions

F2P

-Lobsters - of course! Nearly every F2P's choice. I'll recommend fishing them instead of buying.

-Salmons and trouts - You can fish them really fast, and Salmons are not bad food at all. Trouts, eh, are not very good.

-Strength potions - the only F2P potions. If you have 5 gp, a limpwurt root and red spider's eggs, ask the Apothecary in Varrock for them. They will cost about 1K when bought from other players.

P2P

-Lobsters - described above.

-Potatoes with cheese - only 9 gp in Warriors' Guild! They will heal 16 HP each. Use them, if you can access the guild!

-Karambwans, after completing Tai Bwo Wannai Trio quest, you can buy them for 100 gp each in the Tai Bwo Wannai village. They are raw, but you need only 30 cooking to cook them (Remember to cook them throughly, or they will poison you!). You will burn them a lot (even at 60 cooking), but they will heal 18 HP each. If you have 65 fishing, you can fish them yourself.

-Normal potion sets - You can buy them at a cheap price in Warriors' Guild, under 200 gp per set I think. While they are not as good as super sets, they will still help you.

-Prayer potions - Awww. These are your nightmare. You will need them in higher-level quests, but they are expensive. Don't buy them often, I'll recommend training Herblore to 38 and Slayer to 15, killing Banshees for Ranarrs and making your own potions.

Misc. items

-Willow logs - Good for fletching training. Fletch them into (u) bows, and you can sell them for 40 gp each at Seers' Village, while the logs are only 30 gp each! Not a very good profit, but you will also get experience.

Tips for saving money

-Buy materials (logs, ores etc.) from autoers, because they will usually sell for lower price (odd, but true).

-Clean your bank often and sell the junk items. I sold once lots of junk to general store and got 17K cash. Not much, but it's from junk items.

-Use "cheap" training and fighting spots. For example, the blue dragon at Heroes' Guild is good if you have 43 prayer; take full Initiate, Proselyte or Monk Robes (don't forget your anti-dragon shield!) and pray at the altar upstairs after every dragon. Fill your inventory with lobsters, because Protect from Melee will not protect you from dragonfire, and anti-dragon shield is not enough for full protect.

-Make your own arrows and maybe runes too. You will save lots of cash.

-Collect all items you can collect yourself to save money.

F.A.Q.

Ask if you want to.

My story

I created my main account, Kurinin742, on 13th August 2005. When I was lvl-9, I found 26K cash on ground and I was very happy. I bought some items with that cash and started training my character. I completed many F2P quests, and finally in May 2006, I completed Dragon Slayer at only lvl-47 - with anti-dragon shield as my only armour. Well, I had some misc. items like steel med helm, but aren't really armour, lol. After that, I went to PK with my friends (I had full Addy and rune scimmy), and they killed me! I lost all my items. It was hard time. I was sure that I can do a "comeback". In November 2006 I became a member with Steel Dagger as my most expensive item. I was only lvl-56. I started playing Pest Control with the Steel Dagger. I completed Lost City. I was at 41 attack and I wanted a Dragon Weapon. I collected cash and bought Dragon Long, while I was still at lvl 41 attack. I started training at Pest Control with poisoned Bone Dagger (lol!). I got money and bought a Rune Sword, trained more, and bought a Rune Scimitar and Full addy. I trained and trained, and at lvl 59 attack, I killed some moss giants and White knights. And finally I was able to use Dragon Longsword! After that, I merchanted one day, and after that day, I had Full Rune and Dragon Longsword. I completed some higher-level P2P quests in the summer 2007, like Underground Pass and Monkey Madness. With only 50 Lobsters, a few self-made antipoisons and energy potions and two prayer potions I completed Monkey Madness quest.

Now I'm lvl-77 with 68 strength and pretty good total level. Now I'm becoming a member again, and I'll perhaps train my Hunter to 70.

RuneScape for the win!!!

Maybe if you wern't wasting your time writing your auto biography you'd have time to get your skills up to actually make money instead of gawking and waiting for it to come to you.

nice "guide" I find it more of a comedy though:) As for p2p making 1-2kk a day is quite simple so I hope this was just a joke:)

Is it? I play RS for fun, not for cash. :|

Ah, very original. I love it. =D>

Thanks! :D

am i classified as Poor?

My bank has 1336k...

If you think so. You cannot say if you are poor or rich, by just looking at your bank. You are poor even if you have 10mil, but cannot find it fun. But if you have 100K and you're happy 'cause of it, you can be rich.

If you get enough cash for dragon chain, you're happy for a short time, but tomorrow you probably aren't so happy anymore. Much better to be poor and play the game for fun.

how bout instead of being poor, a way to get richer...it can be really easy

It can be, but if it's easy, it has no fun.

I don't see why people complain about being poor. I started pip pip guv after 211cole got perm muted. I then did rune mysteries on pip pip guv, and then i did the world 16 air run, and made 200k. I then merchanted to 1.2 mill in 1 week... Not difficult at all...

I get 30$ a day working at a haunted corn ma(i)ze, dressing up and scaring people crapless.
