October 6, 200718 yr Well I sent this to Jagex, after thinking about the topic brought up in another thread about the lack of value or use of the Dragon Square shield. Check it out, and post your thoughts. Pros/Cons etc. My suggestion is based on comparing current weapons. Problem: When you compare the Dragon Square to the Tz-Haar shield and rune defender, it doesn't make sense that the Dragon Square doesn't have a strength bonus. When you think about the ease of acquiring the Tz-Haar and Rune defender, (which both have +5 strength bonuses) and the rarity of getting the dragon square (I have thousands of hours of game time, 135 mil exp and have only gotten two to drop)...with no strength bonus, it just doesnt even out. Suggestion: Update Dragon Square to add a +5 str bonus. Summary: This will renew interest and value of the rare dragon square shield, while putting it in it's proper place within the defense items. It will not de-value the Dragonfire Shield as the DFS has +7 strength bonus, has it's unique capabilities and high stats overall. Rune defender is still a unique item as it has high attack stats and a +5 strength bonus. So nothing is "nerfed" to coin a phrase from players. Thank you for your time and consideration. So what do you think? Will this recreate interest/value for the Drag Square? It would make it a more popular item in my opinion...I know I would toss my Tz-Haar shield and rune defender into the bank permanently if the change would happen. .....would you? October 6, 200718 yr That this belongs in RS bugs & Suggestons. But good idea. If you jump into a river in Paris, you're insane. If you jump into a river in Egypt, you're in denial.
October 6, 200718 yr This belongs in bugs & suggestions. But as for the general idea: NO the dsq is a square sheild In the proportional stat rising of square shields it fits in perfectly and therefore should not change. Besides the chances are one day dragon kite is going to come and that is the one that will most probably hold the str bonus. As for the point if it holding no status. All d items, other than full helm and boots are statistically inferior to other items and are more of a wealthy/status symbol. Why should the sq sheild be any different? October 6, 200718 yr Not all equipment has to be equal. some of it has to be better than the rest. The dragon square shield is a pretty good shield, defense wise. It's pretty low cost and never degrades. shields really shouldn't even give offensive bonuses; they're defensive tools. the fact that the dragonfire shield has a strength bonus is, i think, because it has sort of mystical dragonfire properties, and as for the tzhaar shield, it was in the knowledge base that it has a strength bonus because it was "forged in a place of great strength". perhaps a new quest could add magical properties to the shield; that'd be cool.

Because the dragon square isn't even a status symbol. The most it means is that you beat Legends (which can be done as low as mid-50s) and had a million to spend (or less). Cowards can't block Warriors.

October 6, 200718 yr I think rather than a strength bonus (cause c'mon everything has a strength bonus), Jagex should do something new, something special with the Dragon square. They should add a hitpoints bonus. YES A HITPOINTS BONUS. Its about time there were different additional stat effects on weapons and armour other than defence + strength. They could make a pair of legs with an agility bonus, a helm with slayer bonus etc... most of all they need items with hitpoint bonuses(all of these bonuses would raise your level like pots/stews).

I've just gave up and gone back to my zammy book.

October 7, 200718 yr Well no because people would still buy the obby shield for the str bonus because it's way cheaper. Also it would make it too common no support. October 10, 200718 yr Tower shields no, logically should NOT give any offensive bonus at all. They are made to block blows from the enemy, nothing more (maybe keep the rain off your head). Look at the Obby Shield, it is [bleep]ed...a smaller more versatile shield which could also be used to "smite" into an enemy as well as deflecting blows. Less defense then a Dragon Square with an added attack bonus - exactly as it should be (attack as in providing a tactical advantage to attack the enemy, not ATTACK stat...I had to say that, people are naive here). Defenders follow the same pattern. The only defense comes from the ability to parry incoming blows, and it is obviously used as an offhand offensive weapon as well, even more so then an Obby Shield. If anything, the Dragon Square should provide a MUCH greater defense value then it does now. There is no reason having something so rare (as a drop at least) become completely written off as merely a decorative armor piece now. As rare as the drop is anyways, value could EASILY been restored if the Dragonfire shield included the much rarer square instead of a shield which is freely obtainable. The "visage" itself should have provided the protection from the dragons' breath and the extra bonuses. Hours Available (EST|GMT-5) Mon-Fri: 7-11pm | Sat-Sun: Throughout the day
October 10, 200718 yr i think its a great idea  sadly jagex rarely if ever make a player suggested update. :boohoo: also the obby shield is made of stone, so shouldnt something hard, like any steel wepon, be able to shatter it? if cavemen were able to carve it with other stones then it cant be all that strong.
