Wow... this took forever to do. Anyways, i used stock photos from

http://www.mayang.com/textures/index.htm

for the base "texture" It was all desaturated so then i had to color the whole thing (meep). Than i did the atmosphere and all of that. So i can say that this planet realy is mine (the stock photos were like photos of ... rocks and concrete and stuff like that, hardly actual planets.)

Anyways, it's going to be a part in a big space scene i'm doing (16x20 inches :o )

So this is realy maybe my... 4th or 5th planet i've made (i'm ubar lazy i know) , and i realy wanted to get something that looked nice and somewhat realistic. Hopefully I acheived that.

:)

Awesome, but it gets a bit to dark

Well its the planet's shadow. I can always change the shadow quite easily if i need to :P But just imagine its a good bit away's from any source of light. so only the top part of it there is iluminated :)

Yeah looks very cool, and I know the planet's shadow is there but perhaps a few stars around the planet could break the monotonous background. :)

Yeah, i'd put some stars there, but this is simply to just show the planet :) The scene i'm doing is going to be a while. Tomorrow i'm probaly going to be realy finalizing the starfield i hope. i did a bit of the star's today, but they are still ugly as *beep*.

Thanks :)

Beamo, i'll own ye 'ye little newbie :D

Just kidding, lol. Thanks.

nice, I suppose it's all PS work, but do you mind telling me what you did to the texture? You stamped it, right? I've been meaning to start making some planets myself, and I was actually on that texture site myself just yesterday lol :) I don't think I got the texture right, though, so I messed it up, anyway, maybe I can pm you about it?

Yea, well, anyway, looks good. Abit like this tutorial I found on deviant art, but I suppose what is skillful in it is the texturing, which I think looks awesome. Abit too little water on such a green planet, perhaps? Or maybe I'm just thinking too muhc :) nice job.

korla3eaqd3.jpg

I think it looks real

Only thing it could use is mabey a lil bit of water

very nice :D

Go ahead and pm me :D

For the texture, i mostly used the layer styles "soft light, overlay, and hard light" and blended together 4 or 5 textures. For this one, i even started with an actual map of earth (you might be able to tell from the clouds and stuff) and then maniped it beyond beleif. I then went on to colorize it, which btw, is realy hard . :(

anyways, if your going to make a planet i sugest you read alyn's articles, alyn.deviantart.com

he has something for nebula's, planets (which is much more than a tutorial) and starfeilds :)

probably the best work ive ever seen from u nad

and probaly the first postive comment i've seen from you kane :P (just messing with you lol)

Thanks :D

Mweh, aint bad.

Do you intend on using it in the battle since you put it up as a stock on dA?

I'll talk to you 'bout it on MSN, 'cause we both used the same technique.

Will do :D

and I will Cal. I still have a lot of work to put into it, but man, it was late at night, and i was getting tired.

and finding good (big) textures is tough :(

holy..., when i first saw it i actually thought it was a photo of earth

Hey its Meangean, Nice to see you still working on this stuff...

I haven't made pictures like this or sigs in a while....

I do other things that consume my time like go out with friends, talk online or do homework...

I remember the old days when people bought sigs... Some people probably buy sigs still but not as much...

Great piece of work...

Kind of a bit dark but yea

A 16x20 space scene at print quality resolution is going to rape your computer. Nice planet though.

A 16x20 space scene at print quality resolution is going to * your computer. Nice planet though.

It probaly will. :( . Think a 2.4ghz pc with 1GB of ram can take it?

Thanks Keiph.

Apart from the animation studio I work at, I'm also now the graphic designer at a photography studio.... We have like this (I'm not exactly sure on the specs) quad processor 3.something gig 2GB of ram, 200GB harddrive, etc etc... and when we do 16x20x300dpi stuff for clients... even that machine gets bogged down..... It's a 10 thousand dollar computer and it can get slow when you start adding layers. I recommend alot of saving and alot of layer merging... Then again, I also feel that the 10grand computer is not properly optimized, but who knows...

You're probably right keiph, and that's sad to say at the very least. I got a 3ghz processor only 512 mb of ram and when working with a 4000 x 4000 piece, i can still have open aim, msn, winamp, and a web browser, and i don't have a problem. Then again my computer is totally custom.

Well, right now for the most part my pc is runing fine with it (and it usualy does when i'm doing planets at like 2500x2500 size as well) but it may start to lag when layers will bog up on it.

I do plan to save a lot though, and I usualy do use copy merge's alot :)

Nice. The emboss is a little obvious, and the glow gets sharp and seems to split away from the planet near the darker parts.

Good planet, but after all, its just a planet :P More stuff would be cooler ;)

  • Author

Thanks ven :) I'll take that into consideration.
